I knew a couple guys that marshaled the jets out of parking/made sure they catch fire starting up. Wouldn't call them crew chiefs. 90% of the jobs are bs.

Must have been the good ole days. Everyone gets a job now that's not going to start within a few weeks. I sat around 7 months waiting to start. It sucks, but hey, I got paid a great salary to fax some papers and browse the Internet. Some assholes played the system and got caught literally across the country when they were suppose to be manning their desk. One person shits, everyone gets a diaper.

We were free to burn as much leave as we pleased, cutoff was 10 days out from class start date, after that leave was a no go except for Christmas or family emergency type deals. 10 Days prior you start doing all your medical stuff and getting the admin bs done. Negative leave was only approved for emergencies or Christmas break if you just got on AD.

With your age I would say go for it. Solid scores.

Whats the price range on the wings?

Yes. We had someone do something very similar. Try and spend some time with your class on weekends as well though. Best part of UPT besides the flying is the friends and good times spent outside the squadron.

RPA School at Holloman
viper154 replied to herkbum's topic in Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA/RPV/UAS/UAV)
The projected numbers maybe. The schedule is god awfully slow. The course could easily be accomplished in 3 moths, currently scheduled for 5 months, actual graduation currently is taking 7-8 months. Unless there is some major behind the scenes changes that neither the instructors or students know about, the FTU isn't going to be able to meet half of the desired output. Ive asked numerous instructors how they plan on handling the increased numbers and the answers are typically shoulder shrugs and blank stares. Every pilot student I know here (all arrived before Jan 1) live off base. It looked like they were building some additional extended stay rooms. Hotel parking lots were always empty. Seems to me the base hotel was hurting for business and this is the answer to get bodies in beds. -

Word on the street is all single dudes/dudetts that started after Jan 1 are required to stay in provided lodging as directed by the OG/CC. Rumor was the married folk can still decline lodging but I can't confirm that. I'll ask around tomorrow/later this week and try to get the details. -
Criminal Justice major from ROTC. Went to a cross town state school. Highly recommend. You only have to drink the blue kool aid a couple hours a week. Rest of the time you are free to bang chicks, drink beer, and have a life. ROTC commissions aren't guaranteed anymore so don't f*ck around to much, keep your nose clean, don't be dick and play the "game" and get good grades and you will be fine. I believe ROTC is offering commissions direct to the guard/reserve now to if you decide in a few years that would be a better fit.

With the increase in RPA manning I would assume everyone and their mom will get a RPA slot. But we both know what happens when you assume. Expect to be Holloman for a long time.

My Rocky C4s are very light but also started falling apart after 6 months or so of moderate to heavy use. (rucking/hiking)

You need to call the director of the student housing at your UPT base. They were pretty strict on making all the single studs stay in the dorms until more new dudes came to fill them. If you coordinate ahead of time you might be able to make arrangements. I would bank on spending some time in the dorms.

As one of the recent UPT direct guys, they told us this RPA tour would count as our white jet tour. Kind of like being a FAIP without all the hours. Wooo. I would have been a 11M far as career is concerned. Flying is what I want to do, I would bite the bullet and risk getting passed over for major to get back in the jet. F em. If the AF don't want me I'll go collect my 6 figure check contracting.

So I want to buy myself a early Christmas present from my local BX but I have a feeling I may have issues "proving my residence". I am PCSing to base A in May of 2016, and I am currently TDY en route at base B, but both bases are in the same state. The base I am PCSing from is in a different state. Looking at question 13 of the 4473 and the instructions it says "must be present in the state with intention to make home" I am currently here, and plan to reside here, but I am wondering if I can legally use those PCS orders that say May of 2016 to forefill the requirements of the 4473? Kind of a weird situation. Any advice is appreciated.

There are some helo guys that have come back to be t-6 instructors after their first helo tour. Never heard of it the other way around.

18x school house is preparing to double their numbers this fiscal year. These kids are surprisingly motivated, I am sure a couple months of shift work will change that but somewhere the AF is finding happy and willing volunteers.

Anyone at Holloman happen to have some pics of the TLFs? I can't seem to find any on the interwebs. I have pet friendly TLF reserved for my time there but I am looking into some off base options as well. -

Information on PCS/moves/moving (DITY, TMO, DLA, storage)
viper154 replied to SUX's topic in General Discussion
This is kind of a complex question, search function did not give me a exact answer. I have a PCS, with a 130 ish day TDY en route. (Everything is CONUS) I have a copy of my orders but they are not complete with the funding info and the dependent travel info. I am assuming the TDY is going to be unaccompanied. (Ya I know what happens when you assume) My plan was to just bring the wife (and the dogs) with me and get a pet friendly TLF and pay any difference out of pocket. She is pregnant and I would rather not leave her alone for 6 months. 1. Will TMO pick up our HHG if I schedule the appointment before we leave for the TDY, or will they only pick up closer to the report date for the PCS? 2. Doing the self brief on move.mil, I believe I am authorized NTS, and HHG, I have a truck and trailer to bring the essentials, and wanted TMO just to grab the big furniture, hold on to it for the 130 days and deliver it to our PCS location, would I want to make that a NTS shipment or HHG shipment and request they hold it for longer than 90 days? 3. If TMO picks up our stuff before we leave for the TDY, would I still be receiving BAH for the departing location and per diem for the TDY? 4. I know I am aloud 600 pounds for TDY weight. If I put 3000lbs in the truck/trailer would I get reimbursed for the 600lbs from my duty station to the TDY location, and only 600 from the TDY location to the PCS? A buddy was telling me that I would additionally get reimbursed for the full weight from the original duty station to the PCS location but I find that hard to believe. Appreciate any input, I am currently on a different TDY and getting any solid answers from my home location has been a**pain. -
If your dream is to fly you make the money thing work, don't pass up the opportunity to achieve your dream for money. I knew guard/reserve guys at UPT that had enough debt from school/flying to buy a nice house. Every single one said it was 100% worth it, and now make way more than me in their civilian jobs.

I can't speak to what is in the future but I can tell you that sitting in a box playing with a computer screen 7,000 miles from the flight compared to the pure fking awesomeness of flying a manned aircraft is what is wrong with it. Ya sure, someone has to do it. It can be you. I would much rather experience that kick in the pants when you push the power up for t/o, that feeling you get right when you rotate, or the view out a real wind shield at 40,000 ft. And the fact you enjoy URT. Sitting in class 8 hours a day is pure adrenaline.

Just got non vol to RPAs right out of UPT. If you want to fly, love life, and be a airline dude take the Reserve gig, run for hills and never look back. If you want to work out of a box in the desert at 1g for the next 6+ years keep the RPA gig. Looking back I would have killed a dude for that Reserve slot. Just saying.

Suposidly the CSAF signed a memo guaranteeing us a manned aircraft after this assignment. We were suppose to have said memo in hand with all the details in it "later this week". It's been 2 months. No one has any idea about the details of this assignment, 3 years? 4 years etc. MPF has no idea (more than usual) how our training and orders should be written, TDY, PCS TDY en route, PCS then TDY, I leave for the B course in a few weeks. I'll happily take my assignment and move on, UPT was a awesome expierence, and knowing the outcome I would do it all over. I however will not believe they will sending us back to manned aircraft until I'm strapped in an actual cockpit.

MI-17 was a ALP student. They did not go through T-1s. There was 2 AD U.S. 38 studs. 1 was DQ medically half way through.
