  1. CBM guy was hired to fly a aircraft, his unit lost the jet and only has Reapers.
  2. You can get the waiver to get BAH at your home location and you will live in the dorms. Several guys in my class are currently doing it.
  3. Wing Commander briefing to class 15-13 and 15-14 at all 3 UPT bases a couple hours ago. Leadership is waiting on a memo with details.
  4. It's now official. RPAs will begin to be dropped to active duty UPT students. 6 RPAs per class, 2 per base, starting with 15-13s assignment night in 3 weeks.
  5. As a crosstown I drank way more beer, studied half as much, and had way more fun than the host school dudes. There will be plenty of kool aid to drink for the next 15 years of your life. Don't get to caught up in the impressing your cadre and being better than everyone else business. Show up, do your best, be a bro, and make as many friends with your classmates as possible.
  6. Almost every house has a garage at Columbus. Only ones that don't are the temporary houses. Capitol has 1 stall garage on almost every house. The other 2 villages I think have a combo of 1 and 2 stall garages. Married students are mixed in all 3. Depends on your luck. Currently posting from my house on Columbus and my wife's car is currently in our garage.
  7. Some friends still in rotc said that the system has changed as far as automatically going active duty. They have some sort of new program where you can commission and just serve a couple years in the Inactive Ready Reserve or get hired by a guard/reserve unit. Might be worth looking into. Be careful though. They could change that in a heart beat and you could get stuck in a non rated career forced going AD. AF is real good at being indecisive as a 16 yr old girl getting dressed to go on a date.
  8. Granite is spot on. Study Study Study. I am just average dude with 0 hours that made it through without to much issue. Chill on Friday night, put a couple hours in on Saturday working and most of Sunday afternoon and night. Most the people I saw wash out didn't study much or didn't study with others. IFS is only 3 or 4 weeks, but it's like sprinting 100% all the time, UPT is more of marathon where those weekend breaks are what's going to keep you sane. Edited for poor English skills
  9. Should be fine. I believe I weighed my vehicles a couple days before my orders to move.
  10. Short answer is yes. While the black is not "testable" it is fair game on your check ride. While I don't know anyone who hooked for not knowing a black ops limit you look good when you know them. Tire pressures were a popular one when I was there about 6 months ago.
  11. Not advised. You could graduate a week early or several weeks late. You will have zero time during the week unless you are rock star pilot or don't give a f and fail.
  12. Enrollment Allocation. Essentially it's a slot to go to field training for rotc folks. Can't commission without going, usually between sophomore and junior year. Getting harder and harder to get one.
  13. Permanent party gets priority. Other than that I think you take a number and get in line. You also don't need orders to get on the wait list. Long as you can provide some sort of document that says your coming to CBM. I did not know this until a few days ago. Would have been useful info to me over a year ago. I was searching this thread earlier today for gun stores and someone else provided that little hint several years ago. Don't make my mistake and wait for orders.
  14. Get on the wait list now. I've been on since December and still haven't gotten offered a on base house. Talked to the office two weeks ago when I got here, still had another 45-60 day wait. I decided on a off base place just north of town. Plenty of houses that allow dogs in the $1000 TO $1200 range that are under a 10 minute commute if you decided to go that route. My worthless 2Lt stud opinion, if you can get on base go for it.
  15. To my knowledge ENJJPT is prob your best bet for leaving sooner. I know two bros commissioned in May, one EAD'd the day after he graduated. The other left about a month after he graduated both went ENJJPT. Everyone that I know who went to Vance or Laughlin was EAD within two months of graduation. Columbus however is a different story. I know one guy who left for CBM within 2 months of graduation, I am expected to EAD January, 7 months after graduation, there is a group of us all going to CBM on facebook, I would say 40-50 who have assorted dates from October to May.That being said, if you want ENJJPT, from my VERY VERY limited knowledge you will EAD similar time if you chose Vance or Laughlln. I would stay from CBM if you want a early EAD. Disclaimer-I have no actual accurate info on how backed up each base is, just my knowledge of some bros who have all gone to UPT/ENJJPT within the last several months. Hope this helps.
  16. Not saying the guys above are wrong, but I do believe the dentist at my flying physical last summer said that I had 1 impacted wisdom tooth, but it did not have to come out right away. He told me to wait and have the AF pay to take out all 4 wisdom teeth, even though the other 3 came in fine I guess they are prone to cavities and such. Moral of the story, I got that approved stamp on my FC1, not sure if the tooth was impacted, or was "going to become impacted" I have yet to do anything about it as I am still waiting to EAD.
  17. Thanks for the advice. Perhaps the best officer I ever met taught us the power of a case a beer and log of dip, you would be amazed at what people will do. Sadly my old NCOs are text book shoe clerks when it comes to helping us, and are of the non drinking/smoking variety. I tried asking them for help, got a lecture on how it is not their job and they don't ask questions, just take orders and say "yes sir". Old commander is no longer contactable for reasons not be discussed here. No clue who the new guy is. Tried swapping dates, earlier UPT are worth twice their weight in gold, no one is giving those up. Cobra is out of our affordability, with both of us working minimum wage jobs we just can't afford it. That BS degree in basket weaving was great to boost the grades for the UPT slot, not so great in the real world job market. Would it be a rookie 2Lt mistake just to call the AFPC number on their website and ask? Not trying to make a complete fool of myself here.
  18. Thread revival, I am a rotc grad, suppose to be going to upt at Columbus. My EAD and upt dates keep getting pushed back, at this point I am looking at late January early February. I am told that the weather in CBM has been bad and that's whats backing every thing up. SSgts at my old det are just about useless and refuse to do anything they don't have to. Is there anyway I can call afpc and ask if any of the other bases have earlier dates? I'm not to heart set on CBM, could care less where I go, just want to get on active duty and start upt. Also my wife lost her health insurance several months ago, and it's nerve racking to think we will be without insurance for several more months.
  19. Everything said above is solid advice. I just commissioned out of ROTC, going to upt in January. Never got a scholarship, I came in as a 250. Make friends with everyone, if you stay in the program you are going to be spending a lot of time with these dudes/dude-ets. Be yourself, never try to through anyone under the bus to get ahead, do everything you can to help others. Memorize as much of the knowledge as possible, and show up to your wings extra activities. Kick ass with grades, and get in the gym and get in best shape as you can. Try to latch on to a solid 200 and POC outside of AF time and get as much knowledge from them as you can. I owe my career to a kick ass guy who was a year ahead of me and helped me out whenever I needed. You will learn more about how to make it through the program by hanging out and drinking a beer with some solid 200s and upperclassman than you ever will from reading a manual. Make sure you talk to POC/cadre about the best times to take your afoqt and tbas. Lastly, make friends with people who are not in ROTC, and do plenty of non ROTC activities. People who make ROTC their entire college life either burn out or become douches who miss out on some of the best years of their life. Drink some beer, meet some ladies, and have fun in school. Good luck P.S. you probably won't ever march on AD as said above, you might once or twice as upper class man (POC), but with all the budget cuts marching and power points are about the only thing ROTC has money for anymore, so as much as it sucks, get good at it if means that what it takes to get to upt. Edit for bad grammar. To much beer, not enough English class.
