Naaaa.... lets just weaponize the RV-8. Sure it's a homebuilt, just have the kits delivered to depot, built and modify the airframes "in house" as required. We could out fit three or four wings of these things for the cost of a single F-35.

With very few exceptions every pilot I ever dealt with was a decent guy/gal. Were there some jerks along the way? Awesome. Remember watching the landing on live TV as a kid at summer camp. Pretty cool. Also got to see several Apollo launches/splashdowns on live TV at school on these HUGE black & white TVs they wheeled from room-to-room. Hey, it was the 60's; things were different then....

See AFI 36-2306 Voluntary Education Program, para 5.2.2.3 it talks of ADSC waivers; -2306 is the AFI that covers TA and should give you a good starting point. Also, call your functional at AFPC as your mileage may vary. In this budget era we now live in, they just may go for the pay the TA back and separate option.
