"Ever heard or PIC?" Not sure what you're trying to get at... I don't know brother. Leaving the ANG/Reserves out of it, almost all the AD heavy guys I know upgraded to AC in 1-2 years and had 1000 multi-engine PIC time less than 2 years after that. Some of my bros in the fighter world are just now hitting the 1,000 hour mark by their O-4 board due to bad deployment timing, the stand down in the CAF, etc. And for all my viper brothers it's all single engine time. I realize the hours aren't the same, and as far as I know their isn't a consistent way of converting between the two. Is 1,000 viper hours equal to 3,000 C-17 PIC hours? What about T-6 IP time or T-38? These days it seems like it is all the extra stuff getting dudes hired (IP/EP, Safety, WIC, AIS... etc. I'm trying to figure out why the kids don't want to be AD fighter pilots as much as they used to when I went through. I don't think you can discount that there is 0% 11F influence in Phase II while the students are at their most impressionable part in their aviation career. What do you think? It's the perfect storm, worse than 2010-2013, because we are running out of Instructors in all airframes, but especially fighters. Shortening the B-courses will only put more strain on the actual combat units. Amazing what driving your people into the ground for 10 years will do. I'm also seeing a large swing in guys that don't want to fly fighters. More guys are putting heavies up near the top. An unforeseen consequence of the lack of 11F presence in Phase II I would imagine as well as the ability to quickly build hours in the MAF. I also see more younger guys already building exit plans from AD. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums

This is 2008 all over again. Slamming through as many students as we can find into the 11F pipe, only to be faced with a "2-year wait" for B course and completely shutting the pipeline off for the following 3 years while we played catch up, only to create a bathtub for 11Fs during those year groups while "overmanning" the MAF by 175% and RIFing those groups 2-3 times in the last 8 years. Although this time so many guys are bailing at the 10 year point, there will be no RIF... This s#it is getting old man. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums

Don't worry I already sent his screen name to the SARC chick and up my chain. I felt triggered. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums -
Ugh. Sucks. I guess they don't need anyone in the ANG or reserves after all. Hope they understand when all of us just walk away at the end. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums

Ack, need some BO wisdom fast. If you are in a re-qual program for your MWS, who writes your PRF? Gaining or losing unit? School house? Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums

I don't get how the T-X single track makes sense financially. It takes half the IPs for the T-1 and I'm assuming it is more fuel efficient than an AB fuel guzzling fighter type aircraft. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums

We would have just created SAPR SARC GREEN DOT FLYING SPAGHETTI MONSTER ANTI-RAPE BARBRA STREISAND 3.0 program and wondered why it didn't work. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums -
This. As a Guard Guy, who isn't at the whim of AFPC, your success will be a direct correlation to the effort and natural ability you have. Don't get me wrong, I love ENJJPT, it is just that the pendulum swings here tend to either send a ton of guys to fighters that shouldn't, or relegate some great students to airframes that they don't deserve (RPAs included). I fully expect to see some names on CNN one day of a student planting it and I hate that. The int'l thing is a blast and it can also be the worst thing in pilot training depending on the int'l IP. I found out stereotypes exist for a reason... I personally believe that the fighter drops at Sheppard should be on a person by person basis and not based on some red cell in a spreadsheet at AFPC that says class 18-06 (need xx fighters). I've seen classes where 1-2 guys have the ability and a class where ALL of the studs were like flying CT (most of the time). The problem is being all T-38s, the sh*tty class got 95% fighters and the awesome class got a ton of heavies. Bring on the NSS at Sheppard and be able to bank and pull fighters forward and it would be a much better program. As of now, the lack of competition isn't helping the current crop of studs... And that's all I got to say about that... Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums

As far as washouts I only know of a couple personally and was not surprised by any of them. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums

I'm not bashing on ENJJPT. It has its good and bad. In the past it was used as a shock absorber and a lot of guys got heavies out of there. Although billed as a fighter centric training, its feast or famine with respect for actually getting a fighter. Which sucks because a lot of good guys have gotten the shaft, while a lot of guys who wouldn't have gotten a fighter at any other base will get one at Sheppard all thanks to the flavor of the week at AFPC. As far as the selection method, I can't speak to what exactly changed, but I was briefed that the weights had changed and the average student going through is not the same breakdown as 10 years ago. Or is it that they don't think the money is the driving issue? I'm not sure how much the AF would have to shell out to even make a dent, but my guess is it would be considerable. The AF has a leadership issue. Morale and retention are merely symptoms. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums

How many AF leaders today would request a demotion in order to help fight the war? Most guys today want to get promoted so they can avoid it. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums
