  1. I forget who said it but the AF has given up on retention and is focusing on production anymore. Let's be honest, why admit you made a mistake when you can blame it on someone else?
  2. A buddy of mine's wife had the perfect explanation- they'll burn 30 pilots to produce 15.
  3. Alliance sounds good but where are they going to put MOA's? That airspace is busy as hell. And as someone mentioned before, where are they going to get airplanes?
  4. As much as I want this to happen, it's not shiny enough with a bunch of gee-whiz gadgets for the brass to get behind sadly.
  5. Not an ADAIR guy but a good friend of mine was at Tyndall flying ADAIR for several years prior to going F-22's and loved it. From what I recall they had 2-3 go's per day with ~8 jets available. 1/3 go was F-22 support and 2 go was CT/Training. He seemed to be able to fly 7 ish times per week with ample XC opportunities. He didn't really list many con's that I recall.
  6. Thanks for the inputs and advice everyone, it really has been helping (that and extended gym time). The wife (former I guess now) has a Masters degree in GIS and previously worked for a satellite imaging company, so I like to think she has earning potential. So far it seems like she wants to go the route of "you pick up a bit more of the debt and I don't touch retirement/TSP, etc" + a year of spousal maintenance. Which seems reasonable given the amounts she's asked for. This is a stupid question I know, but if we agree to all those amounts and asset division the courts will consider that "good enough" and not force us to change something right? Again i appreciate all the input and advice, this $hit sucks.
  7. Thanks for the words/advice. Still in shock but got good people around me. Ex is wanting to avoid a long legal battle and is hoping to solve everything on our own or through a mediator. Most of everything she's asked for in the divorce is reasonable. When it comes it issues like alimony (she only worked part time) and retirement what are my best options? I saw about buying out her portion of my retirement, what about my TSP as well? I've done some research and it seems like she's entitled to a portion, but is there anyway to avoid that? Maybe get her to forfeit her rights on that? Or is that a long shot in the dark? Also, concerning an attempt to push B-course back. Is that something I should attempt to do at home station before I PCS or deal with that after I get to Holloman? Thanks again for all the help.
  8. Thread revival. Wife dropped a bombshell on me recently that she wants a divorce. Just looking for some advice/what to do next. Some context on us, been married 3 years, no kids, I've been in the military for almost 6 years now, currently about to PCS for B-Course. Any help is appreciated.
  9. Small difference... Also, isn't that the 2nd Growler for XL?
  10. 100% worth it. I could write a shit ton about how much fun it is to fly and how all the queep and SAPR shit sucks, but in the end man it's up to you. To me flying and being a pilot in the AF is the greatest thing I've ever done and I wouldn't trade it for anything.
  11. Any reports of the Navy having any issues in their T-6's?
  12. But without people who have been in multiple airframes, 6-9 years on staff, SOS DG, and ACSC in residence how can we have effective leaders and commanders?
  13. Rumor on the streets is there was another incident at Vance today (there have been a few the last several weeks), but today it was the Vice Wing Commander and tomorrow the T-6's are stand down (supposedly). So it takes an O-6 having issues to start taking things more seriously? Maybe now the IP's will get a break from 7-day ops.
  14. Slightly off topic but in the morale category. Anyone have a good beer/coffee mug company? The old company we were using was taking ~6-12 months.
  15. It's a thing. No AF students are there, but AF IP's are there. It's because at Vance (and I think Columbus) there are Navy IP's, as such there must be an equal(ish) number at Whiting. Don't know anyone personally at Whiting but from what I've gathered most don't want to leave or come back to the AF.
  16. Let's all be honest, the AF is going to massively overshoot on how much sim time these kids get because of the AF's hard on for technology. It will take something severe before the AF leadership decides its fixation with things other than flying is misplaced.
  17. The T-1 to BUFF kid had a spouse who was already at Minot for missiles IIRC. He did well in T-1's so his command made a case for him and got it approved. Don't take this as something that happens on the regular, above average student with a unique case. That being said I've heard rumblings/rumors that they were going to open bombers up to T-1 bro's for quite a while. Concerning the FAIP's to bombers. A couple dudes I know were T-1 FAIP's and are headed to the BUFF, but that was almost 2 years ago. Can't recall any T-1 FAIP's got bombers last year (or at least at Vance).
  18. Minor clarification, the T-6's are flying all the weekends right now as they try to catch up from the OBOGS shenanigans. Ghost a class and preserve everyones weekends/sanity? Nope, gotta preserve everyone's "only AETC Wg w/100% on time grad" OPR bullet.
  19. I'm curious to see how they think UPT can surge right now. Vance is currently flying 4 of the next 6 weekends to catch on the timeline. But whatever, they'll gladly sacrifice 30 pilots to produce 15. But hey Delta is hiring right?
  20. Thought the bubble was 900nm? And it shouldn't be an issue getting approval for Vance jets to go out to CA, hell they went to Reno last year.
  21. Dude no one will ever give a $hit if/when the wife visits, enjoy your family time to the max extent. Those rules are there to prevent people from having 69 people living in the same dorm room. Now that all being said, find someone who has an open room and go live there, save a few bucks and it gets you away from base each day.
  22. @Vixty Former FAIP who just left Vance here, so I'll do my best to answer your questions. Weekly grind varies, but in general it's 12hrs a day + several more hours studying/prepping at home. During Academics (slack-ademics really) it's 8ish hour days of classes and some sims. Once you hit the flight line it's 12hrs per day 5 days a week plus your study time (as mentioned before). Phase 3 is similar, usually with a little more free time during the week (think 10hr days) since you already have the basics down. Weekends are yours except during XC's (usually 1 per phase). Your friends are correct, usually Sunday around 3ish is when people start getting together to study. If you're bringing your hunting gear there are some good spots around Enid for Deer hunting, quite a few of the IP's hunt so you shouldn't have any issue getting good gouge from them on where to go. Sounds like you've got a decent game plan so far. The apartments you're referring to are pretty nice, they are a little expensive so if you can find a roommate to lower the cost, do it. Stillwater is a good time and is about ~1 hr away. OKC is good time, Bricktown is overrated (as a married dude I didn't really enjoy the clubs there), but Mid-Town with Fassler Hall and the food truck court/McNellies is pretty on point. Tulsa is ~2hrs away but has some solid downtown action in the Blue Dome and Brady Districts with many hotels nearby to crash at. If you have any questions about Enid or what to expect feel free to PM me, good luck!
