  1. Thanks for reminding me why I hate this shithole state Oklahoma. Why can't the AF just make Buckley a UPT base...now that would be a sweet deal
  2. I heard of one dude recently who parked his car in a parking lot near the end of the T-6s and left his keys in the ignition. Then on his way back after leaving the plane, he asked one buddy to carry his g-suit and then apparently the other one was looking at something. The guy took off, ran to his car, got in and hauled ass back to the squadron. Of course his two friends had no chance on foot and apparently most of the class was busy simming, flying, etc. so he got back. But I agree w/ Fozzy, it seems lame to be the one guy who didn't get dunked at UPT. I don't know about Vance, or even specific squadron/flight, but maybe *'s situation is replicated here. No idea.
  3. That's an interesting point, and valid to an extent. But, the fact is the AFA produces roughly 1000 officers a year. That's a big amount. I suppose you could say those 1000 a year could just be spread around to other schools, but that's just something that's not going to happen. Maybe it has come down to more a prestige "I went there" kind of thing, but despite that, it stills play a big role in officer production. It's true that good/bad officers come from every source and no source produces better officer than any other, but why not have 3 AD sources instead of 2? And, this comes from a ROTC guy who has no attachment to the zoo whatsoever.
  4. Or you could have buddies send you DVDs, especially burned ones. Then the only way they could know is if they open the mail and put the CD in a computer. Are academy kids too dumb to figure this shit out? I keed I keed!
  5. The best thing you can do is know where all the switches are and link that to the checklists. Get a flow going w/ all the pre-start checks, engine start, before taxi, etc. If you can do those quickly (and by that I mean smoothly w/o missing or just skimming over something) w/o having to look at your checklist every single item, that'll help a lot. But, still refer to your checklist to ensure you didn't miss any steps or do them out of order (not as big a deal in the T-6, but definitely not a habit you want to get into, especially for airframes down the road). A good technique that works for many is to do several steps (6-9), then glance at checklist to make sure you got everything. At this point, that's more important than flying circles.
  6. How retarded it looks aside, they're just plain annoying and get in the way. Why would you want to have to move that thing aside every time you want a pen? Sure it may only take .69sec, but add up all the times you reach for a pen...that could be like, minutes out of your life!

    Gender

View your profile (easiest is just to click on your name at the top left of the screen where it says, "Logged in as: Hydro130"). Then on the left side of your profile page you'll see a pull-down box for gender. What's wrong Rainman, not a cow bell fan?
  8. C model guard (Hawaii) at Vance too.
  9. No game is going to prepare you at all for the TBAS. Just get a good rest the night before and be awake and alert to take the test. That's the only thing you can do to "prepare."
  10. Haha...well shit if I wanted to make my own notes, warnings, cautions flash cards.
  11. Fvck...I needed some shit right now too. Hopefully it's temp.
  12. I don't know for sure, I've only done it as a cadet. I would think it'd be asspain w/ permissive TDY, having to take leave, blah blah blah. I'm not sure you want to bother you CC w/ that kind of trivial stuff. Just wait till UPT to fly. Yes it'd be fun, but unless you are lucky enough to be in an ops sq that can give you rides, just forget it. Personally while I was on casual, I would not have gone to the sq/cc and asked if it'd be cool to miss some work to go on a trip to Luke for rides. Just technique though. There's a decent amount of people who don't spew. Some people just react better to that kind of an environment than others. [ 31. January 2007, 17:11: Message edited by: brabus ]
  13. Speaking of that, anyone know how that guy's "ride" went? Hopefully he was puking all over the place and just wanted it to be over 10 min in. God, what a chode.
  14. Well that depends on which base you go to. A training base such as Luke, it's a slam dunk. Go to any AD base/guard base and what Dunce said will 99% happen. So unless you're willing to make a trip to Luke, then you're SOL.
  15.  I never thought free skiing that didn't involve hiking your ass up the mountain existed. Screw all of you who get that opportunity (sts)! ;)
  16. On that fanatic thing...I was watching the t-birds perform about 2 yrs ago in CO. This guy just started talking to me out of nowhere about how #5 couldn't fly b/c he's DNIF from a cold and how (insert first name of T-bird pilot) is a good dude b/c blah blah. It was really weird, but I kind of shrugged off thinking he was a buddy of one of the pilots or something. Come to find out he was a prior-E in the 80s and had NO connection to the t-birds or anyone linked to the T-birds, EVER. And this whole time the guys talking to me like he's personal friends w/ all of them. It was fvcking weird...I just left. This shit is hilarious guys, keep it coming!
  17. The company is some online mattress place owned by a pakistani who is anti troops in Iraq. Wonder if his profits go anywhere besides the family table.
  18. 1. Suck it up. How bad do you want to fly in the AF? What are you willing to do to achieve that dream? Think about that, seriously. 2. That being said...how far off from affording the transfer are you? Student loans ARE NOT a bad deal and in this case, maybe well worth it. You can pay them off pretty decently with O pay, so personally, I wouldn't worry too much about that. Also, see if you can work something out to do PT at your school (how many are at your school? Even 4 or 5 dudes working out twice a week can make for some "ROTC-approved" PT). Third, find a cadre member you get along with and who isn't a douche shoe (hopefully that exists in your Det) and talk to them about this. They should be there to help you.
  19. Blanket...I just remembered I do have an extra copy of the cockpit poster(the one issued to us at Vance). If you want it, PM me and I'll mail it to you.
  20. I'd be worried too if I were you. Sounds to me like he told you not to dive b/c of having to valsalva (or yawn, whatever you do to equalize pressure in your sinuses). Guess what, you'll be doing the exact same equalizing in the chamber, while flying, etc. But on the same page, it's not like you can go through life never equalizing your sinuses. This is definitely serious enough that you need to get checked out by a flight doc. If you can't chamber, you can't fly...sorry. But, it'd be better to find out now then to find out 4 days into UPT. Good luck, and if you want any hope of still being able to fly, stop boxing. Getting knocked unconscious is a 99% DQ (and don't say it'll never happen, b/c there's ALWAYS a high enough chance in boxing that it's not worth the risk).
  21. You don't need it before hand...really. You get so much of that crap shoved down you're throat in the first 2 weeks, you'll practically know it like the back of your hand (as well as a stud can anyways) before you hit the flight line. Relax or do some bold face, nothing more.
  22. Bellancas are like that too...I would think it would be weird as hell, but my buddy who has one says it actually feels great and he prefers it to the standard yoke. Maybe just different strokes for different folks.
  23. Pure gold bender...how could you lose! :D
  24. Nope...there's just a parking lot outside. If you use two spots, who gives a shit. As far as bikes (Mun), Vance has some shelters you can park them under, but don't know if I would completely count on it (depends on how many people have bikes and if you'll have to fight for a space or not). I don't know about the other bases. I would say theft is very little on base, and pretty much non-existent when it comes to auto.
  25. You can have as many as you want...w/in reason (i.e. what you can park in your driveway, etc.)
