  1. That was hilarious Flyguy!! Not many people I know would admit to letting go in their pants!!
  2. I got to pull the mighty -10 up for my first 2 contacts with a -135 the other day (10 Jan as well). I didnt fall off the boom either...unless you count that first time!! The second time there wasnt time to fall off before the magic B-word was used!! Had fun none the less!! Cant believe they pay me for this sh!t!! [ 11. 3. All the above are true, McGuire is in the middle of nowhere and it is definitely not cheap to live out here. Philly is a short drive, NYC is only about 2 hours north or a short train ride so I have heard. You also have Atlantic City within an hour. The beaches are all close by though I wouldnt call them all that great. There is a lot close by. You can visit many cities easily over the weekend if you so wish. Any specific questions feel free to PM. I have been out here for the last couple of months so I will help you as much as I can.
  4. At Vance, if there was a waiting list you could move off base immediately and start drawing your allowance. Once your spot came up for a dorm room, all you had to do was tell them you alredy moved off base and they moved on to the next person. You didnt have to move into the dorms once you moved off base. If you want to live on base, at Vance at least, call well ahead to be put on the waiting list (I think a month is as far as they will allow though). Then call about once a week to ensure up are still on the list, and hopefully your room will be ready when you show are shorty there after. I called right at a month, and when I showed up guess what, I was no longer on the list. I liked living in the Vance dorms because those 0330 shows suck, but it makes it a little easier when all you have to do is cross the street. Just food for thought.
  5. For a PPL you should know how to check the forms (all inspections are up to date), be able to do a good check of weather and make a good decision to go or not go, and know any information that a private pilot may run across. These type of things would include airspace, regs, limited systems knowledge (just the general stuff), and anything else you might have to deal with. There are examiners out there who are azzholes and expect way too much out of an applicant. If you fail, bounce back and take it again. Had a student fail after the examiner pulled out the "examiner training guide" (or something like that) and start quizzing him on anything and everything weather. It was WAY over his head and most of the instructors heads including myself. I waved the BS flag but what are you going to do?? He bounced back and passed the next time. If you get a d!ck, so be it. It happens time to time.
  6. Re-check?? Are you talking about a biannual?? If so, it is every 2 years from your most recent rating, and it can be done with any flight instructor. It will most likely resemble a checkride because that covers almost everything in the shortest timeframe. It is just to make sure you can still fly. The difference between it and a checkride is that you cant fail, and you arent getting a new certificate. If they dont sign you off, they just give you more training till they feel you are safe enough to be on your own again.
  7. There is an oral exam guide out there for Private/Instrument/Commercial/Flight Instructor certificates. Maybe more. Check this link to see what I am talking about. You can usually pick these up at any FBO. This is stuff you should know, though not everything, and is not specific to any examiner just to the particular certificate in general. Any other questions feel free to PM me. Exam Guide
  8. I can help you with the McGuire area and/or the KC-10 sim training. Thats about all I can help you with right now as that is as far as I have made it to date. Hitting the flightline tommorrow!! [ 04. December 2005, 20:38: Message edited by: Sneedro ]
  9. Anyone, especially you heavy drivers, know a good place to find a large flight bag to carry pubs in?? So far I am on bag number 2 that I am returning because it is not as large as the description made it seem. Thanks for the help.
  10. I am not a big fan of heights at all. No need for me to climb a latter because I dont like that one bit (nice description by the way BFM!!). It would take me a lot longer than an hour to ride that Vegas ride, but I would to prevent getting laughed at as Scooter described. Now flying at 500AGL or as high as the jet will take me...no problem at all. Flying doesnt bother me and I agree with some of you, it is a control thing I would imagine.
  11. I have heard of a lot of pilots that are afraid of heights. I dont think that it is too uncommon to fly and be afraid of heights. Cant say I know of many who are afraid of flying though...doesnt seem like that would work too well but I have been wrong before.
  12. Young Crow, I am at McGuire now but have no idea who you are talking about. Then again they have me tucked neatly away in my corner at Boeing clicky my CBT slides away all day long... I will be sure to keep an eye out for this guy once I am set free. Sounds rather amusing if you ask me!!
  13. Had a guy in my class have a situation like that. Told the flight commander and took leave. He had no problems at all getting leave for the funeral. When he returned from leave it was like he was never gone. Just dont expect to take much more leave than is absolutely needed.
  14. Well then Jackstone, I am worthless to you!! So time to get back to drinking!!
  15. Jackstone try this link. This should give you a little bit of information on what you are looking for. Cost Analyst [ 08. November 2005, 19:45: Message edited by: Sneedro ]
  16. We used the Dumb, Dual, or Different version. I agree with you 100% though, it would of made no difference on what I did in the area. That was my time to have fun without someone breathing down my neck because I didnt have the next 8 manuevers planned!!
  17. Nope he didnt make that one up...I heard that all the time in Tweets.
  18. By the time you get to the point were you feel proficient with keeping in the area and the radio work, you will move on to instruments were it all changes. I wouldnt worry too much about it though. Getting comfortable flying the jet will take time but you will get there. Just keep studying and working hard and everything will work out.
  19. What type of flying are you looking at doing?? If it is just general aviation have you thought about just getting a second or third class medical if you are worried about getting a restriction?? Unfortunately I cant help you much with the medical requirements of the different classes of medicals. [ 12. August 2005, 09:40: Message edited by: Sneedro ]
  20. Hockey takes the cake by far. I played from 5 years old through college, but this past year I figured I better wait till after I get my wings just in case. Wonder if I still know how to put on all that equipment?? Ahhh UPT grad cant come soon enough (1 month 7 days, but only 4 more flights)!! Then off to the rink!! For all those out in the real AF, do most bases have places close by to play at?? And if so any leagues??
  21. HAHA...that's awesome!!!! Great pictures PAB!! Hockey...greatest sport ever!!
  22. I know that there has been a lot of talk about what people like and dislike about certain a/c they fly. I fill out my "dream" sheet here very shortly on the T-1 side of the house and am trying to decide where I may want to go. My question is for those who are currently flying in the Air Force (MWS and FAIP guys). In a sentence or two, what do you like and dislike the most about your a/c. I am mainly concerned with the heavy world but you fighter guys feel free to chime in as well. Thanks for the input.
  23. At least a commercial certificate is a prereq to obtaining any flight instructor rating. You cant get your CFI without it or better. To be a regular CFI you need your SE Commercial certificate. To become a multi engine instructor you need your commercial multi certificate. To be an instrument instructor you need a commercial certificate with an instrument rating. To be an instructor without an instrument rating...I dont remember. I would have to look that one up. I dont want to be a jerk either, but if you want to post information then reveiw the ENTIRE reg and not just portions of it. There is a lot of information in the regs and not only in the areas you may think they will or should be. [ 17. May 2005, 13:37: Message edited by: Sneedro ]
