  1. I wore the visor during Tweets, and now I am in T-1s where I wear sunglasses. My classmates, IPs, and myself wear whatever sunglasses we want to in the jet. I have never heard anyone complain about what sunglasses we have on. As I think about it, I dont think I have seen a single person wear the issued ones in the T-1 world.
  2. Bergman, that is what my certificate looked like when I was between my multi and single commercial cert. work. I was told that it is written that way to show that you cannot work for hire in a single engine. You still have an "INSTRUMENT AIRPLANE" rating which means you can fly IMC in an airplane, be it single or multi engine. You should be good to go in a 172 or a twin. Again, that is my understanding based on my experience. Unfortunately it would take me some time to find a reg to back me up on that, but let us know what you find out after talking to the FSDO.
  3. Very true RedDog...forgot about the whole T-6 thing.
  4. Not exactly...you will be a Comm ME pilot with an instrument rating. With that being said, you will only have private pilot privileges when it comes to SE flying. Basically, the instrument rating is a rating and not a certificate so it applies to all your certificates regardless off commercial or private pilot. This means you can fly civilian in the wx in a SE or ME a/c. The only thing you cant do is make money flying SE airplanes. Not planning flying SE for hire?? Dont need to go get the SE commercial certificate. Either way, it is a very easy checkride and doesnt take long at all should you decide to get it anyways. Like Chuck, I also had this situation in college so if you have any other questions I can try and help clear things up.
  5. I checked today and recieved that ribbon...and for what?? Apparently for doing stand-up, shotgun questions, and filling out boldface while at UPT. Kind of rediculous if you ask me. I have done nothing to earn it. I agree 100% with Hacker that this is sort of a slap in the face to those who have actually spent time doing missions in support of the war.

    Scam???

That sounds a bit odd if you ask me. If you bought a ticket from an airline today for a trip you were taking 6 months from now, would you have to pay extra right before your trip if gas prices all of a sudden skyrocketed?? No, because you bought your ticket. I would ask a few more questions. St. Louis huh?? I do remember hearing about a company pulling off a Spring Break scam there a few years ago when I was in school. Different situation but if I were you I would look into it a bit more before you start handing over more money to them.
  8. ChuckFlys17s pretty much hit the nail on the head about SLU. There are many benefits that SLU does offer when it comes to ROTC, as well as downsides. Getting a pilot slot there is probably just like anywhere else. It isnt just given to you, rather you must earn it. Dont expect any school to just hand you a pilot slot just because you are an aviation major.
  9. I went through Saint Louis' aviation program and did ROTC as well. Nice thing about SLU is they pay for all of your flying!! It is very nice to not have to shell out a bunch of money to get your ratings!!
  10. Depends on the IP and student.
  11. AMC-Alcoholics Moving Cargo
  12. Just out of curiosity, how long do the RTUs last for the various fighter airframes??
  13. AFROTC now gets a one-time uniform allowance of $400.
  14. Is there any need for a Mess Dress while at UPT?? [ 16. July 2004, 14:59: Message edited by: Sneedro ]
  15. To start, I have ZERO military flight experience so take this for what it is worth. But if you have a little money to spend, I cant see how it would hurt you to get an hour or two in the clouds. Flying simulated IMC in an airplane or simulator is a whole different ballgame then in actual conditions. You dont have to learn how to fly IFR, just get an idea of what it is like and how to keep your orientation. That should allow you to concentrate more on learning instruments in the air rather than figuring why you dont know your up from your down at UPT. Again I dont have any military flight experience, but I cant see how getting into the "soup" once or twice before UPT would hurt if you have a little money to spend. I have some actual experience and am very happy that I got it going 100kts for the first time rather than 200+, which I also have experience doing, and that is in itself a whole new ballgame. Just my opinion. But I also dont think it is something to try and scrape up the cash to do. [ 22. June 2004, 01:18: Message edited by: Sneedro ]
  16. In addition to type ratings, are you able to get your ATP the same way?? i.e. take an exam, have something signed, and then go see the FSDO??
  17. How does the transition from Academics to the flight line work. Do you get a day off between or are you one day in class, and the next day flights are beginning?? Same question for phase 1 and 2. Are you one day flying a tweet and the next day people are no longer in your class and you are flying a T-1/38/ect... On a side note, how many people are typically in a particular UPT class?? Thanks for the info.
  18. I have a friend from school who did the Guard duirng college. He never got deployed, but if I remember correctly his 2 weeks a year were done 1 week which fell during our fall semester and the other week done during our spring semester. That is how his unit worked. Cannot say that is how all units work, but just how my friend's unit operated, so take it for what that is worth. And he split is basic and tech schools between 2 summers.
  19. Just curious if anyone knew what it took to become a Thunderbird. Thanks for the info.
  20. Anyone know what you need to do while at UPT to get type rated in the T-1?? I have heard various ways of doing it but just wanted to know what others though, especially anyone got their type during UPT. Thanks
  21. Do students get any time off for holidays to go home such as Thanksgiving or Christmas?? If so how long do these last. Just curious and thanks for the help.
  22. I worked with one of those people who went from private to MEII in a couple of months. One of the worst pilots I have ever seen, but I agree with C17wannabe that he can probably pass the hell out of a checkride. Granted he is not a good pilot or instructor.
  23. I am with you Chuck, not to sure if I buy into the whole instrument ticket in 2 weeks. Remembering back to when I did it, though I went through a Part 141 school so it took longer, I cant imagine being able to go from start to finish in 2 weeks. Sounds like they are more worried about getting your money then whether or not you are a good instrument pilot. I would rather take longer and pay more than be a lousy at instruments because it is a whole different ballgame from anything else(sim, foggles, ect...) when you are in the soup. Whether you wait for UPT or get the ticket on your own I would suggest making sure you can fly IFR and know your stuff before blasting off into the soup.
  24. I knew a civilian pilot who bought the Jepp program to keep his flight time. He did not like it. He said you fill out your logbook and then go home and fill out the Jepp program. After a while, he said come the end of the day when he was tired and hungry the last thing he wanted to do was log his flight time AGAIN so he gave up on the program. He said the program was nice but just couldnt force himself to use it. If you can committ to using it more power to you. That is my 2 cents, keeping in mind I myself have never used or seen the program.
