  1. Maybe there is a glimmer of hope that Tops in Blue isn't far from the chopping block. Petition seeks encore for Air Guard bands To their credit, the SSgt in the video has a great voice, and props to the fact that they look like they're playing a pretty low key event and not pimped out TIB style.
  2. What a joke. The average person in that region of the world smokes - hands down - more than the average American.
  3. I had the pleasure of meeting Gen Welsh several times when I was at USAFE and I can only hope that he ends up as the CSAF. That was an outstanding speech. If you haven't watched the whole thing through, do so.
  4. Steve, It sounds like his body was intact when they recovered it from the crash. Plus there's a line in the story that later says "Ziegler and the other pilot were on their fourth flight of the mission when the other pilot noticed a bright flash below him. The other pilot tried to communicate with Ziegler, but received no response." That doesn't sound like they were visual with each other prior to the crash.
  5. So I went back to re-read what info Masshole provided and noticed this Allow myself to like myself....
  6. Pilot blacked out before Nev. crash Highlights:
  7. Breckey is correct - you need the letter (I don't recall seeing anything in the JFTR about getting a name in certification). If I'm reading your post correctly, I doubt she would have given you a non-A anyway because they still had availability in lodging, it was just in the crappy rooms. I don't think you're going to get help from the JFTR on this one with respect to acceptable lodging, I would suggest talking to a flight commander or above for your transition course. Most of them are inconveniences you'll have to live with (cable, internet), but if you can make the case that the power outages and construction are affecting crew rest, you should be able to have somebody throw some weight around to get you an acceptable room, or get you off base.
  8. Apparently an individual with the profile name "uaeflyman" sent several PMs to people asking for help in locating flight manuals for the Su-24. His account has been flagged and banned, and all three of his IP addresses (Washington, Berlin, and Tehran - 46.36.116.56) have likewise been banned, so he should not be able to log back in with that account. You do not need to report any PMs you receive, simply delete them.
  9. That's a little different. Solos aren't qualified pilots and have no weather rating, so they need to stay VMC.
  10. M2, you're just pissed that they cropped you out of the picture.
  11. Guys airborne at Lakenheath were told to arm CMD hot and RTB immediately, but weren't given a reason.
  12. Not to make light of the situation, but I hope she was bawling, and not balling.

    Better than this one.
  14. First off, it's ROE, not ROEs. Second, there really aren't any ROE - you do something dumb, you're fair game for having the story told. Remember that only 10% truth is required. Next, it should be open to all ranks. I've done this in operational and training squadrons and everybody is fair game - to include Sq/CCs. In the FTU, there's a much greater chance of the students getting tagged with it because (a) they're students and have a higher chance of doing something stupid, (b) the mayor is an instructor and has the final say in who receives it. While a bird seems like an original idea, I would say make it something they have to carry with them at all times (if you want to stick with the bird theme, make it a stuffed bird - like a no-shit bird stuffed by a taxidermist). We used a 2-3 foot rawhide bone that guys had to jeep with them. If you lost it (or allowed somebody to steal it), further beatings would ensue.
  15. CliffsNotes on her life here.
  16. Follow up from Gen Welsh I'd be interested in hearing a summary from anybody who is able to attend.
  17. Ugh...a "latrine tech"? Seriously? At least he has aspirations. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flZgaT0Epr0
  18. A 529 Fund has been set up for Dirk's daughter Anna, through the Red River Valley Fighter Pilots. Send contributions to the Air Warrior Courage Foundation (AWCF), P.O. Box 877, Silver Spring, MD 20918. (designate "Capt Ziegler's daughter". The AWCF can be reached by phone at (877) 921-2923, FAX (301) 587-2923 or e-mail: awcf@airwarriorcourage.org
  19. The Air Force can preach tolerance and acceptance all it wants, but making guys take lessons on the computer just won't do it. I lived in Saudi for a year, so I'm pretty well versed in Islam and scoff at the ignorance most people cast towards Muslims. That being said, my suggestion would be that you don't broadcast your religion to anybody who you don't know well. Ignorance remains strong and you don't want to make yourself a target.
  20. You're not entitled to TLA - this is strictly a reimbursement for your initial period before you get your own place to live. From 9150 Since they gave you a place to live, you're not entitled to TLA. If it makes you feel better, you wouldn't (shouldn't) have been able to claim TLA by staying in the Qs if the dorms were available.
  21. True, but they are people who follow their rules and regulations. I don't think your story (though legit) is going to sway them. I would suggest going straight to...
