An interesting race for once, apart from Bottas leading start to finish. Lots of DNFs, some overtaking, some f' ups that mixed things up. Do not like the new Mercedes livery. Doesn't look like a silver arrow at all. I s'pose I'm racist for not liking a black car. And the wokeness is tiresome as well, but now firmly a part of sports.

Hmmm, unfortunately US troops have been in Afghanistan under now three US presidents. I'm betting that if Ivan is supporting the Taliban, as we did the muhjadin (sp?), it's not a recent phenomena. But only "orange man bad" and has to make a statement or he's Putin's puppet. A very convenient demand it would seem. I also remind the audience that the previous president ordered the extrajudicial killing via Hellfire of an American citizen and his 16 yr old son and was praised for it by those same voices clamoring for Trump to denounce the Russians. (Again, I'm not sorry that bastard is dead, but the precedent can and will be misused in the future)

DC Circuit Court orders Flynn trial judge to let it go since both the prosecution and the defendant agree to it should drop. FBI agent/Trump hater Peter Stryck notes detail former President Obama stating "to make sure the right people investigate Flynn." And Biden suggested the Logan Act as a way to conduct the investigation (Logan Act - 1799 law prohibiting US citizens from representing themselves as representing the USG when they don't. Passed in a time when it took weeks/months for ships and mail to cross the ocean and prevent unscrupulous from getting paid as USG representatives. And never successfully used to prosecute anyone. Ever).

Grown kids got me a gift card to a fairly upscale gunstore/range/boutique (Gawd bless, Texas!) because they were lazy and it was Father's Day. Beat the hell out of a tie. Anyway, went on Sunday. Absolutely amazed by how barren the cases were of nearly anything that went "bang." Same for ammo in most calibers. Asked a clerk if they were closing up shop and he said, "Nope. Riots..." The light clicked on. Bought 3 x .44 special boxes and called it a day that concluded with grilling some of Texas' finest beef and some brown liquor...

Cannot comment or recommend anything re airline (not one never gonna be one) but I punched at 13 years, turned down O-4 because I was just fed up with my era of Big Blue. Was married to someone who was an up and comer (sts), but I was forever gonna be a crewdog and was tired of the 200+ days a year on the road. Wife went on to turn down O-6 and, point to this story, convinced me to go Reserves which turned into AGR which turned into check of the month club. On the other side of 50, that is now mainly my toys and whisky money, but it also is, ultimately, my F U money. As others have stated, it's a nice cushion. 2 x O-5 retired pay = not working if you want to live simply. We didn't and I do, but by choice, not have to. Sucks while enduring it to get there, but once it's over, it's over and the money for breathing until you stop is nice.

Was asked the other day by a kook liberal friend (but I repeat myself), "What are you doing, Brick, to adopt the new social consciousness that America is developing?" "I carry a reload now," I answered. They were not amused. I was...

Commanders are dropping like flies this year
brickhistory replied to MDDieselPilot's topic in General Discussion
https://www.bostonglobe.com/news/nation/2020/06/19/navy-upholds-firing-carrier-captain-virus-outbreak/K88Aa6IXnLvdZQxsgn67JI/story.html Big Gray does NOT like to be publicly embarrassed. Strike Group commander promotion also held up if not cancelled. -

POTUS 45: Since Congress can't agree to anything, Ima cancel the previous executive order. SCOTUS: Nope, you didn't follow the rules cancelling the previous order that didn't follow the rules. Not a lawyer...

I learned something today. Actually, several things. One that the political science degree I got way back when is even more worthless today than it has been throughout my career because apparently most of what I was taught was wrong. The other thing that I learned today, and related to the incorrectness of that mighty BA is that executive orders cannot be overturned by a succeeding President. Silly me, I thought that unless Congress enacted a law and the President signed it or if the Supreme Court made a ruling that essentially acted as a law, that the executive orders issued by one President were not binding on subsequent Presidents. The Supreme Court changed that today. Seems some EOs are more equal than others...

What?! And have them realize that words aren't violence? That violence is violence?! That's crazy talk. Therefore, "owwie…"

President announced a 30% cut to US troops stationed in Germany. Geopolitically, I agree. If Germany literally refuses to live up to it's agreement for all of 2% GDP towards defense, why should we spend so much of our national treasure doing so for them? Personally, bummer. One of the few good deals about being in the military.

Too far on the crazy axis in the hot/crazy graph.

And now every commander at every level is jumping on the collective guilt, collective punishment via mandatory re-education train.

So she's a victim? Riiiight...a simple statement like "I reject the association of my music with any political viewpoint or ideology" wouldn't have worked. Instead she's forced to campaign for the left. Damn, that's some powerful logic she's using. As to her being "country," she sure seems to have forgotten 'who brung her to the dance' including at least one video mocking those "country folk." My money is on Ms. Swift deciding to get woke. Made a boatload of money so good on her. Why would any guy hit that knowing he's gonna be a follow-on hit song....

I'll admit my squirrel quip was in poor taste which why I liked diggler's post. I'll own what I wrote. I still thought it was funny, however... As to the, to me, pointless conversation about race: best I can do is treat people like I want to be treated. The ol' Golden Rule. Dang it, that's probably metallism or something, so I need to be re-educated. Meanwhile, if somebody is polite to me, I will respond the same or even initiate politeness. If someone is a douche to me, that is not a skin color, that is a character flaw. I don't take responsibility for anyone else's actions. I don't expect anyone to take responsibility for mine. Oh, and the cop that started this round of "you're a racist, you're a terrorist" has something like 17, I say again, 17, formal, documented complaints/investigations against him. I'm thinking that the Minneapolis PD leadership and/or union hold just a touch more responsibility for him still being a cop and able to do what he did (although I'd like to see the judicial system play out before anyone convicts him. Always more than one side to a story.) than I do.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/barr-taps-top-prosecutor-to-probe-unmasking-by-obama-officials/ar-BB14IqLo?ocid=spartanntp I will say it again, IF the power of the law enforcement/intelligence communities were used against opposition political entities, it's not good for any of us. If no one is held accountable with indictiments, then it will be done again and, likely, even more egregiously. Regardless of your political leaning, this appears to have been a bad thing and needs to be cleaned up. Otherwise it will, eventually, be used against your side. Then it won't be ok.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt in that you were not intending as such, but your post describing the workings of the American administrative state came across as patronizing and condescending; a lecture to the peasant from the 'expert.' (see what I did there?). When those agencies get to, via Congress' laziness and having the bureaucrats make unpopular decisions that the Congresscritters don't have to defend and can make a career railing against "government," insert themselves into every aspect of a citizen's life, well, fcuk that. I don't want to lobby an unelected agency. I want them to be there because they are enforcing a law that I voted for/against. Not one Billy Bob Admin Guy decided I needed in order to make his annual appraisal and bonus better. For once, that ancient BA in Political Science comes in handy. Of course, there was less history, government policy, or Washington leviathan to learn back then, so perhaps I am behind the times...

Indeed. A business absolutely has the right to say "no mask, not welcome." Same for shirt, shoes, or bringing in animals ( for the most part). But for a government entity, without my consent in the form of a passed law where I get a say on it passing or not via my representative and/or executive branch executor, does not. Or should not without a fight. Otherwise, they'll take even more power upon themselves if they know they can do it without consequences. And specifically because of the TSA buffoonery, if I have any choice in the matter, i.e., have to for work or over 12 hours of driving, I deliberately choose not to fly. I despise the feel good, apathetic, cattle-like entity that is TSA and much of our modern conform in the name of security society. Goes against the grain of what we were founded upon, have been, and are supposed to be.

As there is no, that I am aware of, passed by the legislative and executive branches (those bodies elected by the citizenry to represent them) such a law, there is also nothing other than administrative fiat that says I must. No law trumps admin directive. Therefore, there is a constitutional right for me to make my own decision.

Just read a description describing the petty bureaucratic imps trying to increase the scope of their powers at the expense of the Constitution due to Kung flu: The Karenwaffe. I'm probably late to the party in knowing of this one, but I laughed out loud just now reading it.

Man, it is going to be tough as hell for the Aggressors to employ this inside 6' while maintaining their block(s).

In response to a joint filing by the defendant's lawyer AND the former prosecutors (DOJ) essentially asking "Dafuq?" regarding Judge Sullivan's highly unorthodox ruling to seek his own investigator and potentially prosecutor for crimes Flynn wasn't charged with, the District Court of DC yesterday issued an order to Sullivan to explain himself NLT 1 June. This beats his 10 June ruling for his investigator cum prosecutor's finding. Will be interesting to see this play out.

I don't want to. That, according to my understanding of being possessed of the gift of American citizenship is enough of a reason. Mainly because I despise being told that I must according to the whims of buearucrats (sp?). Our administrative state is UFB. Our duly elected federal representatives and executive branch have not passed nor enacted a law done IAW our Constitutional system. Therefore, I don't have to. States may vary IF they've passed a valid law IAW their state charter/constitution AND, if needed, the Supreme Court decides in the state's favor.
