There has been some post-election gouging of prices, but I went by an Academy store yesterday after work and not only were the shelves filled as normal, but the firearms cases were as well. That said, Cheaper Than Dirt did increase their price on .223 by over a hundred dollars a case but I don't see such actions occurring much or lasting long. As for the UN treaty, it's another thing I am not going to get worried about. At this past weekend's gun show, and even at the gun shop I stopped by on Thursday, people were talking like the Obama re-election is going to cause the Second Amendment to go away. As you said, it requires ratification by a two-thirds majority and I don't think even the Democrats are that stupid. It's just more mouthwash from Obama to look like he's keeping with the Democratic agenda. One-third of those Senate seats will be contested in two years, 20 of which are currently behind held by Democrats. That party has done a great job of walking a fine line of not pissing off the huge minority that doesn't support it, such an action as ratifying this UN treaty could be the catalyst to cause independents to join forces with the Republicans to replace those who supported it. So far this hasn't been a repeat of 2008 in terms of overreaction to the election, thank God. I suspect as always some will try to take advantage of the paranoid, but for the most part I don't see any government action to suppress the rights of gun owners (the number and rights of which have been growing considerably over the past few years, Oklahoma just passed open carry effective 1 Nov of this year) as it would be very stupid to target that demographic. While some Democrats may preach gun control, I still think there is a large number of Conservatives in that party that realize what a stupid idea it is and will not join in on the effort. Just my 2¢, your mileage may vary, etc... Cheers! M2

Yep, 39-yr-old writer Paula Broadwell, who graduated West Point in 1995 and who this year was being investigated by the FBI for improperly trying to access Petraeus' email... "The Education of General David Petraeus" indeed!

Thanks for the XDs holster suggestions guys, I'll have to figure out which one I want. Speaking of XD pistols, picked this up yesterday in .45 ACP...(canned photo)... It's the 5.25" Competition Series model, almost exactly the same dimensions as my Springfield 1911s but a lot lighter. Can't wait to get it to the range! Cheers! M2

I have an XDs as well, whick holster did you get for it? Also, post up a review once you have it. Was at the gun show this morning, trying hard to resist the temptation to buy a XDm 45 5.25 Comp Series... Cheers! M2

ADMIN COMMENT: Seriously, guys? Report any spammers that may sneak onto the forum; don't go quoting them as several of you did, making the job of cleaning the shit up even tougher!

OK guys, I have some Brit buds who volunteer at the Bentwaters Cold War Museum and they have been working every angle they can to get a static display A-10 and/or F-4C for their facility with no success, so they asked if I had any other ideas. They've already contacted USAFE who tried getting the Spang BDR jet sold off to them as scrap, but the proposal never got anywhere and returning that particular airframe to display condition would have been too costly for the museum. They also asked for a Hog via the NMUSAF, but that organization changed its loans legislation after 9/11 so that it does not provide artifacts to non-government based agencies outside of the US. They've even tried getting one of the former 81 TFW F-4C's lying around at Torrejón AB in Spain, but no joy there as well. The Imperial War Museum at Duxford, which has a Hog hanging from one of its hangar ceilings, supports their request; but the NMUSAF has been a brick wall on both an A-10 and a Phantom. The BCWM is an accredited museum (same as Duxford) and has 4 ex-RAF jets in its collection...a Meteor, a Lightning, a Hunter and a Jaguar; so there's no reason not to let them have one. However, getting one has been a chore. So I am reaching out to the collective wisdom of this forum, if anyone has any ideas that might help please share them. Cheers! M2

Nice rack on that last one! Seriously, I'd probably need a change of boxer shorts if I were one of those folks! Cheers! M2

Got that as well, excellent movie!

Own it, it's well known in the AK community. Most consider it to be the Soviet Platoon. Whatever you do, get the version with subtitles; the dubbed over one loses a lot of its luster.

Agreed, and those are two stripes...

Still loving mine, it's a great handgun! MAC just released a review... While I don't agree with everything he said (the grip safety doesn't bother me, but my primary carry weapon is a XD; and I think Springfield was smart to release the XDs in .45 before .40 or 9mm), I think he still pretty much nailed this review! Cheers! M2

Honestly, while I like the size of pocket pistols such as the P238 or even the Taurus TCP I own; I don't know if I could trust my life to the .380 round. Sure, any caliber can be lethal, even the FBI speculated that more people have been killed by .22 firearms than all other sized weapons combined (pg 14, FBI Study - Handgun Wounding Factors and Effectiveness); but that same report concluded that "Given desirable and reliable penetration, the only way to increase bullet effectiveness is to increase the severity of the wound by increasing the size of hole made by the bullet. Any bullet which will not penetrate through vital organs from less than optimal angles is not acceptable. Of those that will penetrate, the edge is always with the bigger bullet." (pg 16). Therein lies my concern with the .380, tests show it lacks penetration and wounding effectiveness as compared to other rounds. Given the number of 9mm and even .45 ACP pistols as the Springfield XDs, I would recommend looking around before jumping on this "deal." As for Sigs, they have great reputations but I had a FBI armorer tell me the reason that agency got rid of their P228s was they were too complex and expensive to maintain and repair. They have since gone to the Glock 22/23 .40, and a select few get to carry one of my favorite pistols, the Springfield Tactical Response Pistol (TRP) 1911 in .45 ACP! Cheers! M2
