  1. Shack. Our civilian "continuity" on the staff eventually becomes malignant.
  2. So is this a good thing? Anyone care to start rumors on what direction she'll take AMC?
  3. That is the kind of perception bred throughout the MAF (actually, most of the AF) by doing COIN in a (mostly) permissive environment for all of our careers. Trump and Mattis have made it abundantly clear that we better be getting ready for Russian/China/North Korea. We can have a conversation about what that means - like whether the current infatuation with AERPS gear is appropriate or not. But IADS is a thing that the MAF is going to have to contend with in lots of ways, not just the SA-69 MRIR. If you guys haven't read the NDS you should. https://www.defense.gov/Portals/1/Documents/pubs/2018-National-Defense-Strategy-Summary.pdf Here's an excerpt from the NSS. https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/NSS-Final-12-18-2017-0905.pdf The United States must retain overmatch— the combination of capabilities in sufficient scale to prevent enemy success and to ensure that America’s sons and daughters will never be in a fair fight. Overmatch strengthens our diplomacy and permits us to shape the international environment to protect our interests. To retain military overmatch the United States must restore our ability to produce innovative capabilities, restore the readiness of our forces for major war, and grow the size of the force so that it is capable of operating at sufficient scale and for ample duration to win across a range of scenarios. We must convince adversaries that we can and will defeat them—not just punish them if they attack the United States. We must ensure the ability to deter potential enemies by denial, convincing them that they cannot accomplish objectives through the use of force or other forms of aggression. We need our allies to do the same—to modernize, acquire necessary capabilities, improve readiness, expand the size of their forces, and affirm the political will to win.
  4. You tanker guys sound like you have battered wife syndrome. There’s more to tactics than defensive systems, but there’s also plenty of room for improvement in the areas you mention.

Yes. I like the Creedmore. I bought a LaRue Ultimate Upper kit in 6.5 CM. http:// https://www.larue.com/products/larue-ultimate-7-62-260-6-5cm-upper-kit/ I also built an Alexandria pro fab AR-10 in .308 Comparing those two manufacturers isn’t exactly fair, but my advice: Get both.
  6. Know how I know you weren’t at MAF WEPTAC last year?
  7. I’ll look it up tomorrow at work, but does anyone know how far out you can (or must) apply for separation? Is it 6 months?
  8. Has anyone seen the v1? I’ve heard rumors about what you’re referring to but haven’t seen any data.
  9. From your article: “The new handbook replaces the 2009 Air Force Instruction of the same name.” I’m actually a little surprised this hasn’t been brought up yet. In the push to reduce AFIs we are renaming them. AFI11-2MDSv1/2/3? Gone. Soon to be AFMANs. I can’t believe how much time we’re going to spend implementing this “improvement” that accomplishes what exactly?
  10. I’m interested to see your math. I don’t disagree with the sentiment (and more money would definitely affect my decision if the price were right) but how many of the pilots here talking about money know what NPV is? When I ran the numbers, the NPV of staying AD until 20 vs jumping to the Airlines at the first opportunity was close. The assumptions you make matter a lot (upgrade times, furloughs, health care costs, equipment, in base or not, etc). The numbers were well within the error margin of those assumptions. That check of the month club is worth a little over $1M in today’s dollars-again, dependent on what discount rate you assume. My own opinion is QOL matters far more than the money. Everyone makes the decision for their own reasons. And everyone has a price. We’re really all just flying whores when you get down to it.
  11. If you’re an academy grad, going to one of the Service Academy Career Conferences is probably worth your time. They do some seminars that are helpful (to include resume writing tips) and the career fair is also very good.
  12. Valid. It costs a little bit in hotels/incidental expenses. But the reduced stress that comes with saying “ it, they’ll cut my orders and I’ll report on time or they won’t and I won’t and it’s good either way” is amazing. Highly recommend; have not executed on an OCONUS PCS.
  13. That sounds about par for the course. How many changes were there to the IDE/SDE PSDM? I’m also super impressed with the myVector process for the winter VML.

Is thread about to take off? Hold my beer, gotta get some popcorn.
  15. True but Brice graduated from USAFA in 2007.

You’re going to have to ask your LGS what they want. If you have an in-state drivers license then orders shouldn’t be a big deal.
  17. Matmacwc and brabus are spot on. Valid question, but recommend shutting this one down before someone says something they’ll regret. PM me and we can go .mil or .smil as required if you want more. Is SIPR baseops still a thing?

Possibly. I prefer the glass is half full approach. If you read the memo you’ll see that he told the DOJ to keep doing what they’re doing (ATF rulemaking process) to determine if bump stocks should be classified differently.
  19. Is the polygraph unlimited in scope? How hard can that or a checkride be? Is the issue the quality of applicants or is the screening really that stringent?

Nah, not super secure. But a step better than the glove box or just stashing it under the seat. Thanks for your insight. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Console+vault

Anyone with experience and/or recommendations on something like the console vault?
  22. I remember discussions about that but I don’t remember if it happened or not. This time it’s shut down on the 20th. I’ll be surprised if it’s still shut down on the 30th (pay day).
  23. Any words of advice for dealing with the claims adjusters after the PCS? Every time I email her the auto reply is “thanks for your correspondence. We will reply within 30 days.” Then I remind her after 30 days that she owes me an answer. It’s been 17 months since my PCS. Time to give up on full replacement value and transfer my claim to the military?
  24. That checks. Docs also have a 4 year ADSC for having the AF pay for med school....sometimes I think we chose poorly
