  1. I don’t plan to take part in this musical chairs uniform game. My unworn ABUs will remain hanging in a dark corner of the closet. The OCP can stay on the shelf at the BX. And I’ll keep wearing my 1 piece flight suit to work until I retire
  2. The part including and following the word “however”
  3. The doc IHTFP posted certainly reads like deployments within last 5 years trumps # of short tours. Seems like they’re saying “yeah, but what have you done for me lately?”
  4. Thanks guys. Gonna do 800k with AAFMA for a 15 year term I think. I’ll be 58 in 15 years. By that point the goal is to have a net worth such that we can consider ourselves “self-insured”. In other words no longer need a policy to cover my loss of income for my family’s standard of living. I guess an airline’s policy will be a “bonus.” Also planning to skip the SSB by the same logic
  5. Do most airlines have any term life insurance options as part of their benefits packages and if so are they any better or worse than open market options? I’m 2 years from AF retirement and trying to decide if I should lock in a substantial AAFMA term policy since the VGLI looks terrible.
  6. The way I understand it is you get the same total amount with either option, the only difference is how much you take up front sts. For example, an 11F signs for 7 years = $245k total. You can choose to receive that 245 in 7 equal installments of $35k each or you can get $100k up front with the remaining $145k disbursed in the 6 remaining installments (of ~$24k each.) Maybe I misunderstood though...
  7. Nope, the standards are extremely high across the board. Flying any military aircraft is a privilege and honor reserved for only the most qualified (and Duck too I suppose). I’m afraid the “hopeful” kid has a lot of self improvement to do in order to be considered.
  8. “Heavies won’t even take you” Lol. WTH is that supposed to mean? You guys are killing me with these petty wannabe squabbles. Is there a way to mute this entire channel?
  9. Just closed another loan with Dave Devine at NBKC. 4% VA 30 year jumbo. Great rate and great, proactive service. No junk fees and no points.
  10. Half your age + 7 or 21, whichever is less.
  11. Not sure what you consider a blue falcon. But if he’s still wearing a uniform and making those contemptuous and unprofessional statements then his blatant disregard for the UCMJ makes him an even bigger hypocrite than I thought. Not trying to expose the man, just trying to gauge my opinion of him.
  12. Vertigo, just wondering, are you still in uniform or have you completely separated?
  13. Aren't most guard/reserve pilots dual qualed? Not by the AF, of course, but still safely executing flight ops in two different aircraft while maintaining qualifications in each. My point is that it is reasonably possible for one person to maintain operational proficiency in two aircraft simultaneously without a lot of drama. Of course this isn't applicable to every AF airframe either.
  14. Well shit. That's going to cost me money for the rest of my life. Somehow, not at all surprised. Sent from my iPad using Baseops Network Forums

  18. Really cuts down on the effectiveness of CRM, huh. The same CRM which has frequently been cited as a major contributor to aviation safety. Quote from APA.org: "While no one can assess how many lives have been saved or crashes averted as a result of CRM training, the impact has been significant. LOSA data demonstrate that 98 percent of all flights face one or more threats, with an average of four threats per flight. Errors have also been observed on 82 percent of all flights with an average of 2.8 per flight. Consistent with the outstanding safety record of commercial aviation, the great majority of errors are well managed and inconsequential, due in large measure to effective CRM practices by crews." 19. So you're saying there's a chance... Sent from my iPad using Baseops Network Forums
  20. Valid point about current BS metrics. It is not a stand-alone solution, but revising DOPMA and up-or-out is certainly a part of any real solution. Sent from my iPad using Baseops Network Forums
  21. B/I/APZ is all a stupid holdover of an antiquated system of "paying your dues." Everyone should always be eligible to compete for the next higher grade, regardless of time in rank. That's where the cream is able to rise to the top. The best talent often get frustrated at the prospect of having to wait 20 years to be in a position to make any real changes and move on long before then. Tim Kane wrote a great book about it..."Bleeding Talent." I think the moment one pins on Capt, he/she should be eligible to compete for Maj the next year, and so on. You keep competing until you get out. Everyone is ITZ all the time. ETA : And yes, I'm aware of DOPMA. Doesn't make it any less stupid. Sent from my iPad using Baseops Network Forums
  22. Agreed. Stop loss of the pilot force is the nuclear option - in the end everybody loses. He knows this and must be bluffing. Sent from my iPad using Baseops Network Forums
