  1. Your Weekend U-2 History & Triva... 20 June 1956 was the date of U-2 Mission 2003... the very first U-2 operational flight. Nine days earlier, Det A was opened at Wiesbaden Air Base near Frankfurt. Although the West Germans approved a Soviet overflight, Eisenhower wouldn't approve it because the USAF Chief of Staff was visiting Russia at the time. That would have been a bit rude... and pretty balsy. But, U-2 pilot Carl Overstreet, the 13th pilot to fly the jet, was allowed to enter East German and Czechoslovakian airspace, right where the borders of East German, West Germany, and Czechoslovakia came together, in thehops that the commie radars wouldn't pass off anything they saw. It worked! Overstreet then turned north and flew over every major city in Poland before backtracking via Prague. Success! The mission used wet film and SIGINT. The film was immediately flown back to the US and developed by Eastman Kodak in Rochester NY and the results of the new A-2 camera were impressive. It used three 24" focal length lenses to get a 36 mile wide swath of earth. Iron men, wooden ships. It was a different era, for sure.

  2. Without seeing the rest of your record or the full OPRs and just going off those strats, the result doesn’t make sense.

  4. Yes, it was an exciting race. If there are some here who haven't seen it, it's worth watching (no spoilers).

  5. @Auspicious Aviator 1) As @7thokage mentioned, not important. I think its okay to not have signatures, but if you can get them signed for every squadron it would look more professional, a few of mine are not signed. I don't think it is make or break. 2) I have used Bogi Dope and the content in the e-courses are great materials to read through a few days/weeks before an interview. You get great advice from guys who went through the same process you and I are in and it has shown me things I have been doing wrong in my resume/cover letter I would not have known otherwise. 3) Ask to schedule to speak with a pilot. I came to many dead ends until I started asking to speak with a specific pilot. I found success in doing some research on the squadron, finding a pilot mentioned in their website, and requesting to speak with Maj. ### about his journey/experience.

  6. Are we sure that was indeed the French GP? I remember it being a dull affair year after year.

  7. The fact you refer to it by the MSM’s label of “armed insurrection” shows bias. Absolutely there were people present who were out of control and did illegal/stupid shit, and this isn’t an apology for that group. Fuck them. But, have you actually talked to people who were there? It was 99% peaceful, and not remotely the event that has been portrayed. Again, yes some crazy assholes did some dumb shit (e.g. forcing their way in), but the preponderance of the crowd did not. Your mind, and much of America’s, was made up based on the words of journalists sitting 1000s of miles away from the actual event slamming away on a keyboard. Fear and hyperbole sells. However, I do agree with you bias and corruption is rampant across the entire media, from the left to the right. Defending either “side” is disingenuous.

  8. I’m pretty sure it’s mostly the patches. The wing king didn’t ban faip flags. Just made them a Friday thing instead of every day. Idk why it’s a big deal, back in my UPT stud days at DLF nobody could wear pen tabs and faips could only wear faip mafia patches on Friday. Why or when it turned into an every day thing I’m not sure. 9. There’s a lot of complaining here about liberal media not putting credence to potential lab leak theories. I agree with that assessment, but it’s not even close to a pure liberal media issue. You guys lose your credibility when you fail to point out that Fox/OAN did the exact same thing by blindly supporting bogus claims. How many times was the virus a hoax on Fox? How many times was it going to be no worse than the flu on Fox? How many times was hydroxychloriquine touted as a miracle cure on Fox? Unfortunately, there comes a point where you have to place credibility in one source and disregard others. There is not enough time in the day to sift through every assertion from both sides, and most people take the easy route: they trust one network or group more. Yes it does. This is a ridiculous assertion. GWB lying about WMDs, Clinton lying about BJs, Obama lying about tax cuts - they all are bad and matter. Trump being a terrible leader is a large reason why Jan 6 happened and why the nations Covid response was so stupid. Words mean things. Words from political leaders mean more. To assert otherwise is absurd.

  11. I appreciate all the posts. Per the official zoom today, AD doesn't expect to send anyone till roughly January 2023. So I guess the answer is to not give up, keep the apps flowing and be as ready as possible to interview if I get one (I just was not in a position to actually win in the couple I had...dead on arrival. I still could have handled it way better). I will also investigate the Navy and get some more info. And even then if those two routes don't yield I'd still have some time to try and go AD. If I really stare into my soul, I won't be happy until I've exhausted the pointy option. It isn't an ego/glitz/glamour thing, while fighters may look impressive at the air shows and steal the attention of the public, a lot of which probably don't know jack about flying anything, that isn't the only driver. I don't know a soul who would care what I fly besides myself. And my parents, bless their souls and intentions, would much rather me be doing something else entirely. It's something about the speed and maneuverability, the complexity of employing weapons in dynamic situations and having an immediate and direct battlefield impact. I do truly respect all types of aviators and the flying they do, and I'll never see one type of pilot as superior to the other (missions may be different but the overall goal will always be the same). I respect anybody who pounds on their craft in order to excel at it, no matter what it is. I'll keep chasing & flying when I can, and I'll post back with updates as the situation develops.

  12. You mean like some news outlets swooned over Trump? C’mon guys. Yeah, the coverage is biased. But I don’t buy this “it’s all stacked against conservatives” bullshit. The conservative media has plenty of power. Maybe more than the liberal side. Tucker and the like have been apologists for, and are complicit in the armed insurrection of the Capitol of the United States for gods sake.
