  1. At my base, aircrew are now required to operate the high lift trucks instead of AFE. That means I have to get pilots and navs to take a course on how to drive the stupid truck, and then have them take it on as an additional duty. It means when I have a TDY departing or arriving on weekend, someone has to come in just to drive the damn truck. Also, I had to assign a young copilot to watch other chicks piss in cups for a solid week, 0700-1600. I get sitting SOF (kind of). I get sitting Sup. But what in the bloody hell are we doing? Aside from the insanity of having a pilot, who has millions of dollars invested in their training, not fly in order to drive a truck or watch people urinate... this kind of crap just kills morale. My Lt copilots are all jaded. How can you blame them? It's about unmet expectations. They worked and sacrificed more than their peers to become military pilots. Then we have them do things an E-1 should be doing. The Air Force is insane. What they are doing with additional duties is like having a neurosurgeon do less surgeries so he can help the janitors (who get paid the same as the neurosurgeons).

  2. Squadron commander. Should solve this with one phone call. If not, he/she needs to make one more to: Then Wing. Ditto. Then State Adjutant General. Along with IG and congresscritters.

  4. You guys forget that the overall goal of any Russian influence is just to cast doubt upon the validity of our democratic process. To them, ultimately it doesn't matter who won the election. They have ways to make both of our main candidates look bad. They also know that our political process is so polarized that the "losing" party will happily dance to the tune of electoral illegitimacy. As long as the US electoral process is damaged, Russia meets its goal. I don't know what's so hard to understand about this, but here we are bickering about foreign electoral influence like it's some sort of surprise. YGBSM. 5. You really think Uber (or FedEx, Delta, Vanguard's automated financial analyst, the Mayo Clinic's automated neurosurgeon, etc) will just lower their prices by 1/4 and pass that cost savings on to a consumer, long term? You think the automated Wall Street robots and their shareholders will be ok with that? LOL.

  6. It will be ugly but not in the ways we assume, some people are staying and they will most certainly be overworked. This will be yet another opportunity for non-pilots to rise to positions of influence (Space/Cyber/Intel), and we will see a further erosion of morale and our core competencies of employing airpower as they seek to further agendas and secure tribal position and power. I fear this will ultimately result in a non-warrior leading the USAF or a GCC. Plans are in motion to dramatically increase the UPT pipeline so we will likely see an Air Force with a glut of younger far less experienced aviators and in IMHO that will manifest itself in a much higher accident rate. Also, look for increased incidents of battlefield "mistakes" and fratricide. If there is a major conflict in the middle of this...scholars will write books for a 100 years on the death of a once great power.

  7. Don't spend one more second of your time at Finance - do what Brick says, immediately. You've exhausted every avenue you can at your level, this is your SQ/CC's problem now.

  8. We do them all as a Wing, and they are signed off for us, but anything like this is good

  9. There is no way they would be able to offer flights for half the price just by removing a pilot. Call it a couple hundred dollars and hour per crew and then divide it across each passenger, you won't save any more than $20 per ticket (conservative napkin math, 150pax $500 an hour for 2 crew, 4 hour flight...$13.33 saving per seat). Then you have incidents like QF72 (QF72). Where the autopilot is out to lunch and tries to fight the pilot. How do you think that would have gone down with no crew on board, and the pilot monitoring was in the middle of an approach on one of his 3-4 other aircraft? RPA or single pilot ops are a fair way off, not because of technology necessarily, but the risk mitigation that has to take place to even consider it. Cargo would likely be first, and even that would be a battle with the FAA I'm guessing.

  13. I'd still go back and fly the U-2, in peacetime. Unfortunately, if things escalated (wartime) to the point where they needed me back even more, I have zero faith that the fucking AFPC bureaucracy could make it happen... even if the squadron was BEGGING for pilots. Honestly, AFPC simply couldn't get through the mountains of paperwork and levels of coordination. You'd be back in your Viper and I'd be back in the Deuce after it was all said and done. I think Maj Gen Poore is still the AFPC/CC. If so, she and the Executive Director need to be thrown out personally by Gen Goldfein. AFPC has failed, and how they do business needs to be re-thought. edit: I looked and the E.D. is fairly new, so I'd give her another 9 months to prove her worth before I shitcanned her.

  18. Your experiences are not my experiences are not Bergman's, etc. I was fully qualified in my airframe as a 2Lt. I started AC upgrade as a 1Lt. BFD. All this bitching in the thread is rather useless when you show 1) how ######ing green you are when you aren't even four years in (to pin on Capt); 2) you don't even follow your own "kick someone in the junk for losing focus." Should you do the master's and check the box? Yes. Should you do it as a Lt or even a young Capt? No. This is what people like Rainman are talking about when they say stiff-arm the bullshit and BFM the rules. Here's a ######ing cluebird for you: even in places where the asskissers seem to be ahead, if you keep your head down and do shit hot at your primary job and don't slack on whatever shitty secondary duty (or duties) you have, you will do well for the first several years and be that uber-awesome pilot/nav/whatever you wanted to be. Once you've built yourself that reputation, even early on in your career, it becomes the most effective shit-blocker you'll see for years. Step 1) Be Johnny ######ing Bravo Step 2) ... Step 3) Profit!
