Biggest difference is on the C-5, the weiner-mobile enters from the front. On the C-17, the weiner-mobile enters from the rear.

Posts # 19 & 20 for the win. Well played.
  3. I don't know if it was this Air Force band or another one, but when we were deployed our PAIO asked them to play at our FOB. The funny thing is that when we told them they had to bring their body armor and weapons they responded with something along the lines of "well if we need weapons and body armor, then it's too dangerous for us there." The way I see it, if they're only here to support the troops, so long as it doesn't require them to 'rough it' in anything less than a 3 star hotel on a base safely out of harms way (and here I was, thinking they were in the military), then I think the money would be better spent on jet fuel. On top of that, have you ever met someone who said "gee, if it weren't for Tops in Blue I'd never have joined/stayed in the Air Force"? No? Do they travel to austere locations that WWF wrestlers, country singers, and B-List rock bands don't? Not in my experience. And how much do they cost again? Roughly xx personnel plus support staff who are perpetually TDY and burning up DTS, plus equipment maintenance, plus the cost in disruption to the mission and resources at bases where they perform, plus some other stuff I'm sure I'm missing... All I'm saying is that when you get poor, you gotta settle for basic cable.Edited for iPhone grammar

Figured this would be more appropriate here. Trailer for an upcoming documentary about DUSTOFF. https://www.arrowheadfilms.com/documentary/when-i-have-your-wounded
  5. Related to the post 9-11 GI bill: If anyone is thinking about passing the benifits to your wife/kiddo's but also thinking about transferring to the Reserves, I would recommend waiting to pass the 9-11 benefits...you can do it once you are in the Reserves...I just did! Cheers, Cap-10

Quick reminder post from a few years ago, but pertinent in today's environment. On a separate topic, loved this speech to congress. Edit: KCCO
  7. North Korea is a petulant child. Go visit the DMZ and learn about how immature foreign policy can get. That place reminded me of elementary school recess power struggles.
  8. What's funny is the parts of NYC burning are taken straight out of a video game...

On the safe topic I just bought one of these Very nice to keep a quick access home defense pistol secure. It even comes with a cable that I wrapped around the bed frame. Never believed in these things, but I can get into it as fast as I can get into a night stand drawer. Sleeping with a pistol under your pillow is just plain dumb. Had to get one of these when I got my state Foster Care License. Required to keep all guns secure... which is weird, because just like M2 I lost all of my guns and have no idea what happened to them. So why do I need the gun safes? Almost forgot... I also bought it because it comes with these as well: (PIC REMOVED BY LAME INTERNET CENSORS) Ok, if you are in a lame squadron that can't handle pictures of awesomeness, it can also come with these:

  11. They will need an additional casket to house his brass balls. Godspeed sir. Yours is a dying breed.
  12. Read "Escape from Camp 14". It will validate what you just wrote.

You are most welcome for the setup. Hooked me a marlin/well played/touche'. Figured a herky could not resist, took only 52 minutes. So far only the Brits have landed a C-130 w/o the gear of late... I've had the nose gear light stay red twice. Once on my first in-command in OIF, once at the aux field. Got it sorted out both times ok. Had a main gear come unrigged once, that made for a long slow flight home. Thought I was in a herc since the limit speed is so low.

Head to your nearest airport and talk to a C-5 crew. Chances are better than average that Fred is there waiting on parts.
  15. Basically, what they are telling you is don't take any initiative towards making yourself marketable to the promotion board. As ClearedHot once said (and I paraphrase): "I didn't make up the promotion rules. Stop fvcking making excuses or downgrading those folks who are playing by the rules." BL - explore all of your options and figure out what you can do that best fits your needs both professionally and personally. If it means you get a box cutter master's degree then swindle your way thru ACSC, then so be it. If the peeps on the promotion board don't see thru it, then we have bigger problems. Besides, promotion should be based on future potential rather than what you've done on the past.
  16. Really? Maybe it's me...I find the Bush Administration's (and to be fair...the Clinton Administration's) disregard of due process, habeas corpus, and the treaties that we've signed and ratified to be quite worrying. Is it the same as bombing Cambodia? Maybe not....but our executive branch should not have the unchecked power to commit kidnapping and be an agent of torture on a global scale. It's definately more important to the American public discourse than the timing of the discovery for the Clinton's failed real estate deal. Hell, we once went to war with a superpower because they were kidnapping our citizens.
