  2. Started by Slick,

In 4 years of applying I have had 1 interview. My scores are good, GPA is good, LOR's are good, PPL etc. My problem is that I will need waivers/ETP's for medical, moral, and now age standards. I've been trouble free for 7 years now, but I've been arrested 5 times in my teens and again when I was 21. One of the arrests resulted in felony charges, and 2 arrests resulted in misdemeanors. The other 3 arrests I was released without charges. I have not been convicted of anything since I either did community service or my lawyer got the case dismissed. I also have 10 traffic violations but all of those were taken care of with drivers safety school. I was on med…

Hey fellas, I am looking for advice on my current situation. I have recently been selected to fly heavies at my home station guard unit (historically a highly competitive unit to get into) however, I am still pursuing the fighter route. I am going to preface my questions by stating that I have been upfront with my leadership and the UPT board with my aspirations. They have been nothing but supportive and understanding. So, fighter guys. Do you think it is wise to use my current position as leverage toward reaching a single seat? Is there some appeal to knowing a candidate has been selected by another unit? Overall what are your thoughts on my sit…

Hello! I just wanted to get some feedback on where I stand currently and anything I can do to help. I’m currently a SrA with a little over 3 years TIS, I’m days away from PCSing to Europe. My plan is to start applying for ANG Units my last year over there and hopefully come back stateside for a month or so to come to some drill weekends/hopefully interviews. I’m not sure if this is feasible or not but that’s the plan for now. Also, the goal is fighters. Stats: SrA 1A8X1 w/ 3 years TIS A couple of minor awards (AETC Commander’s Award, etc.) AA in Arabic from DLI w/ 3.5, Dean’s List every semester BA in Arabic Language and Culture w/ 3.66 Cum…

  6. I've been trying since January to take the AFOQT. I have the study guides, I've taking the online practice tests, etc. But I can't seem to get anyone body to let me physically take the test! The threads I read on here say to contact your look AFROTC Detachment. I did and they told me they only allow non-cadets to take it once in the fall during the beginning of the semester. Only cadets can take it any time. I've gone to almost every Air Force recruiting office in my metro area to try and schedule a date to take the test. All of them say you have to be putting together an officer packet before they let me take the test and I don't have enough college credits to start putt…

First off, I know there's only so much one can judge based on what I give here without seeing my whole package. I've been denied from the past 5 fighter board interviews after being accepted to the first one I applied to and nearly getting hired (what I was told). I even visited one of the units ahead of the invite dates, but didn't get invited. Put a lot more work into my cover letter and resume after the four rejections in a short period thinking that was my main weakness for that batch, but still didn't hold up for this latest board. Where's my weakness here? I know it takes over a year usually for guys to get to UPT from hire date so I didn't think my graduation date …

  9. Hi all, I am slowly working towards, hopefully, securing a pilot slot. I just turned 22 and aim to build up my resume and experiences over the next three years. This is where I stand currently as far as scores, education, and experience: AFOQT: P:99/CSO:91/ABM:97/AA:44/V:37/Q:53 TBAS/PCSM: (Taking it at the end of this month) Education: Double major in Mathematics & Education w/ a 3.52 GPA Leadership: None Flight hours: 0 My goal is to have a PPL by the age of 25 or 26 (financial reasons) and start rushing/applying by this age too. I know the last three scores on my AFOQT are a bit lackluster, should I plan on retaking? What can I s…

Well guys, I took the AFOQT for the second time and here are the results: Pilot 57, Navigator 49, Acad Aptitude 35, Verbal 64, Quantitative 16. PCSM 58. In other words, they suck. I still can take the TBAS one more time. My worry is going up against guys with scores in the 90s. Depending on how much weight the unit puts into the scores, I doubt I'll even get an interview. What say you guys? Quick recap of life experience: Undergrad in Justice Studies with a 3.8 GPA, Masters in Justice Administration with a 3.9 GPA, Operations Manager for an online Firearms company for the past 6 years, PPL with a bit over 100hrs, fly right seat in company aircraft, volunteer work with the…

Good Afternoon, I'm looking to fly for the guard, preferably fighters, but at this point I'll take anything. I'm currently a Space Operations Officer, been in for about a year and a half now. I have a 77 PCSM with a flawless medical and 62 flight hours. Will be getting my PPL when I get to Colorado. I also applied to cross train over to pilot, and will again this year. It just seems impossible right now so I'm not holding my breath...What I'm wondering, cause I really want to fly, will I have to wait to palace chase to join the guard or can they take my active duty commitment? I'm also wondering if anybody has a list of the units that are currently hiring and how I …

Hi folks, I'm currently starting my final year of college also seriously considering retaking my AFOQT to try and improve my PCSM. AS of the moment, I am planning on commissioning FY18, but that may all change. Hear me out. I'm not really one to be tact so I'll just say this the best that I know how. At the moment, I have an RPA slot and as glamorous as the future of this career looks, it's not something I think I want for myself. That whole idea of flying in a box, disconnected from everything that has defined flying for the past century is something I am still not sure about. As of right now, my PCSM is at a 59. I've taken the TBAS twice and AFOQT onc…

Does anyone have any insight on the subject? I am currently 32 already.. I know kind of late in the game but I do know of at least one guy who has acquired a UPT age waiver that was my age. I am a TSgt in the AF reserves and also a C-5M flight engineer and a prior C-130H FE. I will have my degree 95-100% complete by December of this year, still have yet to take the AFOQT and TBAS but am beginning to study for it. Also have PPL with instrument rating and 200 hours flight time, currently working on a commercial single-engine rating. I'm not holding my breath but I am willing to put in the effort to submit a pilot package with the reserves/guard if its possible to get th…

  16. Hello there everybody, figured I'd do the same as most people on here and throw out my numbers to get some feedback since the AD board is in January. Little bit about myself, currently 26 and been in the guard since I turned 18, coming up on 8 years next month. Now you all are probably going to laugh, but hell I am too, I'm probably the only case you've seen of an enlisted Security Forces troop trying to jump in a plane, but I think I may just have the numbers to do it. GPA: 3.13 AFOQT: 92 Pilot, 86 Nav, 85 Acad, 98 Verb, 60 Quant PCSM: 62 because I have a whopping goose egg when it comes to real life seat time, however my "prospective" score as I keep seei…

  17. Hi all, I would like to apply for the various UPT slots this spring. I am 28 years old and civilian, turning 29 in March which is prior to many of the upcoming boards. My only military experience is a semester of AFROTC as a freshman in college 10 years ago. I did sit for the AFOQT during that time though and I was able to find my score. I'm currently working as a structural engineer. I have a master's degree and good GPA's. Hoping to apply for a fighter slot. I'd like to try until I hit 30 and then apply for heavies. I would appreciate any feedback on my info below. Also, I had a question about the AFOQT scores. Will the boards care that I took them in 2009 and didn…

  18. So I am trying to become a fighter pilot in maybe the Gaurd or the reserves. I think Airforce would be the best place to go to get adjusted and then maybe transfer to the Navy later on but please correct me if I am wrong. So I am going to put some bullet points here of what I have done so far in life. First thing I will put down is background history. I was a farmer for four years when I started working for income, I then started working at a dealership for two and a half years doing a range of things from cutting up metal poles and other such things to gardening and landscaping and filling in holes with quick asphalt and leveling stones, as well as a valeigh. I w…

Well I'm nearing graduation again and have been curious about flying for the USAF. This time i'm graduating PA school this August with a Master's in Science. Wanna do this new gig part-time but now that im 35 and a half, I'd like to toss my hat in the ring maybe one last time for a buzzer beater. The spark is still there, I feel and look young for my age. Not blind or deaf and no health problems. I can run like a cheetah (especially if I'm chased) and pretty sure I can make whatever fitness standards apply in my old age. Anyway, I sent my packet to a few local ANG units because I read they raised the age for pilot training. If it doesn't work out I may just buy a C150…

  21. Hello everyone! After months of delay due to COVID, I was able to take the TBAS and complete my application packet. I am absolutely thrilled to be sending out my first application packet tomorrow but I would love some feedback on my scores, chances, and anything I can improve on that would help me land an interview. I recently turned 23 and graduated with a 3.36 gpa in B.S. in Political Science from TCU! (Go Frogs). In school I founded and presided over TCU's first ever aviation club called the "Flying Frogs." I was also involved in Model UN and won numerous awards from conferences. On another note, while pursuing a healthier and happier lifestyle I was blessed with …

  22. 1st AFOQT Pilot Score: 87 1st PCSM Score: 83 @ 101-200 hour bracket....87 @ 201+ hours Post Retake of the TBAS without a change in flight hours: 89 @ 101-200 hour bracket....93 @ 201+hours For the guys that have retaken the AFOQT and have improved their AFOQT Pilot section, what did see for an increase in your PCSM score? What is a fair expectation of my PCSM score increase if I raise the AFOQT Pilot let's say to 90 or a 95? Also any pointers or words of advice to help increase the AFOQT pilot score would be appreciated.... I'm in the process of studying for a retake and I'm open for any suggestions. Thanks!

  23. Started by Rated Flyer 4 Life,

It’s a long story, but basically during UPT I decided to switch tracks from fighter to heavy. My original fighter unit is the one that gave me the slot. I went on to fly for a heavy unit. I’m starting to miss that fighter unit that I originally got hired by a few years ago. Would I be crazy to try and apply for a rated board with them?

Hello guys, I'm starting AFROTC in Sept as an AS250. I'm just wondering... I have 10 tickets total, but they weren't given to me in 10 different occasions. For example, once I got pulled over and received 3 tickets for; tinted windows, expired exceptions, wrong insurance card (did have insurance though). I also received 2 parking tickets, my car has been towed twice, and camera red light. Every time I went to court, everything got dismissed. I went to the DMV and nothing came up on my driving record. Could this potentially ruin the chances of getting a UPT slot? Do they look at these things?

Aside from the obvious things such as a solid AFOQT/PCSM score, being a good dude, interviewing well, and flying hours, I was wondering if holding a particular AFSC would help you get selected at an ANG or Reserve unit. I'd be applying to fighter squadrons, and I'd imagine it would matter to them more than it would a heavy unit. I'm a JTAC (1C4) that's been to SERE water survival and all that good stuff. Just curious, still gonna knock the other stuff outta the park to be competitive. Thanks!
