This is my first post here. I am currently in an Army Unit as an ANG enlisted guy. I'm no longer at a Wing, so I have limited resources available to talk to not only AF guys, but also Pilots. I am bound in a 3 year tour with this unit (2 left), but I want to get on the power curve early to make any changes to make myself more marketable. The following are my stats. Current stats- Age: 23 AFOQT: 98 Pilot, 70 Nav, Mid 80s everything else PCSM: 78 Flight Hours: 14 Degree: A.A.S. in Emergency Management (Graduate in May with a B.A. in Emergency Management) Misc: ALS, NCOA, Eagle Scout, SSgt By the time 1st AGR tour is done (**denotes 50/50 chance)- Age: 25 a…

About a year ago I enlisted into the ANG with the prospect of eventually becoming a flying officer. To make a long story short, it took over 8 months to schedule me for BMT (I planned to leave before a 3 month span, as my recruiter almost assured to me) In addition, I had a BMT date scheduled but no tech school date (apparently they were all booked up for my chosen field) I felt like waiting was only delaying my goals so I decided to pursue a discharge from the delayed entry program. My questions are the following: Can I still become a flying officer? Did I make it even more difficult to obtain a UPT slot? How will a hiring board view this discharge? Would I…

Thanks for anyone's help before I explain below. I am an AS400 In ROTC that got picked up for RPA instead of pilot. I was talking to someone and they told me that their is the possibility of getting picked up for an ANG pilot slot or reserve slot and commissioning into the guard instead of active duty. I've looked into the process for applying to guard units and understand that it requires a lot of work and also a lot of heartbreak but there is still perhaps a chance. I have also heard that getting a cso slot into the guard is a little easier than getting a pilot and might better help chances of getting a pilot slot later on. So essentially I have two questions. 1. …

Hi, I plan to major in aviation because it is a really easy degree where I know I would be able to get a high gpa with. I plan to enlist in the Air National Guard throughout college and major in aviation with a high gpa. Also, i plan to learn spanish and have my instrument rating and private pilot license by time I graduate college. Would an ANG fighter unit choose someone who majored in aerospace engineering and has the same gpa as mine? Would they rather choose another person with a different degree? Is there certain college degrees they desire which can be a plus on your application? Would you reccomend me getting a degree in aviation or something else a fighter wing w…

Morning Everyone, I am in need of some insight on my situation and I was told by numerous UPT students that this was the place to ask. I turned 24 this year in July, Married with 2 boys (2.5years old and 11 months old) and started college this year in May and I will have only 13 college credit hours at the end of this year. If I stay on track I can graduate with my bachelor's by the time I am 28-29. I am also currently acquiring my licenses, so I can fly as career no matter which path I take. I want to fly in the ANG/ Reserve with no previous military experience. My question is, am I too late to chase this dream? I spoke to a recruiter briefly on the phone…

So, long story short after 3 years ROTC didn't work out for me, so at this point my options are to enlist now or pursue a commission through OTS or the ANG/Reserves. I only have 2 years left before I finish my degree, which means I can start applying to OTS late next year. I realize its probably the most competitive route and currently there are no pilot slots for FY14/15. I'm 22 years old so I know time isn't an issue yet. My question is, should I enlist and finish my degree on AD, or should I just finish my degree now and start applying to OTS? I'm not 100% excited about enlisting to be honest (I've spent the last 8 years pursuing officer programs) but I will do it …

Greetings, Is it possible to go through Navy OTS and pilot training, do 2-5 years of active duty, than transfer to an Airforce ANG unit before the obligation period? If possible, is it looked down upon? I read here that transferring from one service to another is possible - , however I assume that's after one's commitment period?

I do not use drugs recreationally. I do not agree with them. I have known Adderall is a drug that is prescribed for ADD, ADHD and so on... Right now I’m a senior in high school and currently in a intense curriculum program and working around 30 hours a week. In order to keep up with school I have used Adderall around once a week to every other week. I am not prescribed Adderall and I have never used it for anything else other than to complete school work. Even though that probably doesn’t matter. How does the Air Force look at this? What are my chances of becoming a helo pilot? Other than this case I have never used any drugs that were not prescribed to me.

Hi there, I was wondering what the chances are for a Marine Corps Aviator to get a jet / tailhook slot during Primary Flight Training in Naval Flight School. Does anyone know how exactly Marine Corps / Navy select their slots. I know the Air Force has one drop night where everyone gets T-38 or T-1, but I'm unsure how Naval Flight School works. I found so much info about AFROTC and how exactly flight school works in the AF, but there isin't that much information about Naval Flight School, especially about how selection works. I know that with every UPT class there are at least a few T-38 drops available. So if you want one, you can really work hard to get it. But I…

I just recently graduated high school and I don't know if I should enlist in the Air Force or go to college. What would give me the better chance of eventually becoming a pilot for the Air Force? I was wondering in how much time would I be able to get a 4 year degree? My recruiter says its possible to do it within 4 years but I have trouble seeing that happen with deployment and all. I know that many Air Force bases offer Embry-Riddle courses (most online) and I'd be most interested in getting an Aeronautics degree from that school. If I go to college it would be for a Police Science BS degree. My AF recruiter wants to put me in as a Security Forces Apprentice and I heard…

Hello guys, I'm starting AFROTC in Sept as an AS250. I'm just wondering... I have 10 tickets total, but they weren't given to me in 10 different occasions. For example, once I got pulled over and received 3 tickets for; tinted windows, expired exceptions, wrong insurance card (did have insurance though). I also received 2 parking tickets, my car has been towed twice, and camera red light. Every time I went to court, everything got dismissed. I went to the DMV and nothing came up on my driving record. Could this potentially ruin the chances of getting a UPT slot? Do they look at these things?

Hello, I'm new to the forum, and I'm interested in learning more about becoming an Air Force pilot via OTS. Here are some stats: I'm an active duty enlisted Marine with 5 years of F/A-18 experience. I'm getting out honorably with a Secret Clearance and excellent health. I'm about a year and half away from earning my bachelor's degree in Aviation Technical Management from Embry Riddle with a 3.8 GPA. I have an Airframe and Powerplants Certificate (A&P), as well as about 50 hours of flight time as a Private Pilot. Some setbacks: I have a misdemeanor for criminal damage to property on my record from when I was 18 (I'm 24 now). However, I'm in the process of ge…

Hi, I'm currently a sophomore at USAFA who just completed Basic Soaring. I am horrible at flying gliders, after 9 sorties I can not get takeoff, aerotow, or landing without the IP taking it. All of these were graded as hooks. On sorties 7 and 8, I flew with the cadet soaring commander who said my problem was being passive aggressive and letting the glider fly me. My application to be a soaring IP is very good; it's just flying ability which may hold me back. Does this information show that I don't have what it takes to be a pilot of a powered plane?

hey everyone, this question is aimed towards those are/were involved UPT boards, but I'd appreciate the general input too. I have been, for some years preparing to apply for a UPT slot, I am 23, and I graduate in December, with a business degree from Embry-Riddle. I have a ton of work experience, for my age anyway. I can't take AFOQT until November unfortunately, so I won't have that number until then, but I am doing pretty good in the practice test. I will most likely apply to the ANG, and possibly the AF Reserve. I am Muslim. I am not naive. I know the mood is generally against Muslims and anything to do with them, thanks to the bastards in the ME and traito…

A few months ago I was w/ some friends at some kids ranch. The kid that owned the ranch was a friend of one of my friends. We were trying to find something to do when the kid who lived there said we could shoot his .22 at some targets he had posted on some hay bales. I was impartial to shooting b/c i have shot .22's many times in the past and wasn't anything special to me. We were shooting for a while, and when it became my turn, i passed. The kid kept trying to get me to shoot by calling me names and what not. So i said i would take one shot if he shut the hell up. He agreed, so i shot. The bullet passed through the target, through the hay bale, and towards an empty fiel…

During the selection process, how much does the board weigh out speeding tickets (minor moving violations) on a candidate’s driving record? hmmm.... let's say two or three recent speeding tickets. Other than those tickets, there are no accidents or any other law violations.

Does anybody know how much an other than honorable (NOT dishonorable) discharge will affect the selection process for a NAV slot?

I am a 26 year old Active Duty F-15 Crew Chief stationed at Langley with 4 1/2 years of service, 10 classes left toward my Pro Aero degree at Embry-Riddle, and 12 flight hours. I am also currently working toward A&P certification, and will complete my PPL prior to December. I will complete my degree May 2006, three months prior to the end of my enlistment. I will take the AFOQT and the BAT some time after I test for SSgt in May. OK, so here's the bad stuff. Three and a half years ago I was arrested on Elmendorf AFB and charged with DUI on my way home to the dorms. I received an Article 15 and a reduction in pay grade. I completed the Alcohol and Drug Preventi…

I grew up always getting in trouble, but when I was 16 I realized what I wanted to do. My dream is to become a military pilot flying for the guard. Being arrested over 10 times for minor things such as truancy, trespasing, etc. prevent someone from getting in? I currently have all my licenses and just graduated from college with a solid 3.9 GPA in ME, I'm also 25, any chances?

Hey everyone. I just recieved a pilot slot on the 0504 board with a GPA of 2.61 and ZERO flight hours. People can give you their best guess at your odds/chances of getting picked, and many people here are really accurate. But, if you don't apply, you don't need a best guess to tell you your chances.

Does anyone know if being arrested when I was a teenager disqualifies me from becoming a Guard F-15 pilot i'm 24 know.
