What Are My Chances?

Looking for a pilot slot? Post your "what are my chances?" questions here: AFOQT, BAT, PCSM, ANG and AFRES Slots, *waivers* + more - please include your test scores, GPA, etc...

  1. Started by Toro,

There's been a general trend here of guys asking "How can I improve my chances?" and getting responses like "This has been discussed, do a search." I'm the first one to pass out a UTFSF card, but the way the info is arranged sporadically throughout a number of threads and jammed in the middle of a bunch of stats, I admit it's tough to search for and find. I’ve tried to merge the posts into one jumbo thread, but it was so random and scattered it didn’t make much sense, so I’m going to start a new thread with stolen and linked info from the old threads (click on each subject for a link to a separate thread on that subject). This is intended primarily for pilot slot appli…

  2. Started by Toro,

There are often new threads that don't need to be started since their information has been covered in the past and needs only to be revived and possibly updated. Here's the ROE on searching and starting new threads. 1. UTFSF: If there is a remote chance that your topic has been discussed, use the search function to find it and re-open that thread. 2. Get something close: It doesn't matter if your specific question was not answered - find a thread that is close and ask your question there. The intent is to consolidate discussion as much as possible so there are a minimal amount of threads discussing the same topic. 3. Disclaimers are unneccesary: You don't need to st…

  3. Hope that worked and I have some eyes on this post. I’m applying for the active duty July board. I’ve thought about guard/reserve and it isn’t ruled out, but with 7 years in I’m chasing my 20. I’m building what I think is a strong packet...but with one huge red flag. ill start with the bad and end with the good. I attended the navy flight school program. Graduated IFS with no problem....graduated api (for those who don’t know its aviation preflight indoctrination. Basically six classes of aviation like topics done at a rapid pace. Not exactly ground school but it’s similar) but with poor grades and got attrited regardless. The schools director, who attrited me…

  4. Good morning! I've got a 17D (Cyber) AFSC which I was pulled into instead of pilot because "the AF needs cyber, not another pilot." When I applied in 2012, I had all the numbers according to my CC, but any and all electrical engineers were barred from admittance. So I'm trying again, but I'm fairly unsure of my chances given the AF's perceived need for cyber. I'm in the 2013 year group, which is not critically manned for cyber (go figure) and have been told pilot is critically manned. My other stats are as follows: AFOQT: 82 PCSM: 55 Undergrad GPA: 2.9 Awards: 2014 CGO of quarter (SQ, Group, CHQ levels), 2015 CGO of quarter (Sq, Group level), #2/5 Lts (Sq), #2/16 Lts (Gp)…

  6. Hello everyone! After months of delay due to COVID, I was able to take the TBAS and complete my application packet. I am absolutely thrilled to be sending out my first application packet tomorrow but I would love some feedback on my scores, chances, and anything I can improve on that would help me land an interview. I recently turned 23 and graduated with a 3.36 gpa in B.S. in Political Science from TCU! (Go Frogs). In school I founded and presided over TCU's first ever aviation club called the "Flying Frogs." I was also involved in Model UN and won numerous awards from conferences. On another note, while pursuing a healthier and happier lifestyle I was blessed with …

  7. Hey everyone. I'm still trying to chase this dream. I've been rushing Heavy Units across the country. A lot of heavy units told me I am a great guy and that they like me, but my AFOQT scores are preventing me from getting an interview. My original AFOQT scores are: Pilot: 70 Nav: 37 Amb: 43 Acad: 48 Verb: 70 Quant: 32 PCSM: 41 My retake are: Pilot: 83 CSO: 55 AMB: 63 Acad: 58 Verb: 72 Quant: 45 PCSM: 70 (with 32 flight hours) GPA: 3.80 with Master of Science Age: 31 (another thing that hurts) Work in IT, Junior Admin Hobbies: Ice Hockey, Snowboarding, Surfing, Baseba…

I left the Air Force (enlisted) to become a pilot and as soon as I got commercial/multi Corona hit. I'd love to be a part of the Guard/Reserve but I'm still finishing my degree and I'm 'old'. Do I even have a chance at this point? Thanks for any guidance.

  9. Hey all, newbie to the forum (wish I knew about it sooner!). Been reading around a fair bit and have found some super helpful information. That said, I'll get to it but first here's the story: I have a bit of an eclectic backstory. Compared to some, I could be considered a late bloomer. After graduating high school, I was offered a music scholarship for college (after a brief attempt to tryout hockey as a career). Went to school for about 9 months, but absolutely was not ready to be there. I worked for the better part of my early 20's in music retail, as a gigging musician and music teacher. Went back to school for music around the age of 24. Again, my heart wasn't i…

  10. About me: 30 yrs old, bachelor's 3.79, ivy League masters 3.81, OTS completed, 100s on all four PT tests. I joined the reserves IMA chaplain program in 2021. I haven't taken any air force aptitude tests. I'm an O-2 currently with Captain in the near future if I stay. Just curious if there's any chance I could cross over to pilot from my AFSC 92R or if I would have to resign and then try to come back in through the civilian route. I'm trying to go active duty from the reserves and the chaplain corps is getting in the way of that. I feel a sense of responsibility to try to be a pilot if I have the ability to do so. Any guidance would be appreciated.

  11. Started by bluedevil,

Figured I would star this thread to consolidate some of the chatter about the Active Duty UFT board. On the discussion of PPL/PCSM... A bud of mine called AFPC and spoke to a Maj in the Rated Assignments Branch. He said on last year's board, they were cutting off Pilot selects with PCSMs in the 80s. So it sounds like there's enough applicants with PCSMs over 80 each year to pretty much use that as a rough cut line. Is it even worth applying Pilot only with a PCSM in the 60s?

  12. I am currently serving as an enlisted aircrew member, looking to make the jump to ANG/Reserve pilot. Here is my obligatory "what are my chances". 25 years old AFOQT: 92/65/39/57/26 PCSM: 83 (97 at 201 hours) PPL W/ 50 Flight hours B.S. Business (One semester left) GPA: 4.0 My AFOQT scores aren't the greatest but I'm a little hesitant to retake and do worse. I don't have a preference towards fighters or heavies, I will fly a box with wings if it sends me to UPT. Have about 1.5 years left on my active service commitment, but I figure its best to start applying now. Is it possible that since I am already an enlisted flyer and have been …

  13. Hey everybody, long time lurker but finally joined in to start posting. Long story short, thought I missed the boat on pursuing a dream but the AF did me a solid and bumped up the age limit. Therefore, I’m taking advantage of a second chance to pursue the flying life. Age: 30 AD E-6 AFOSI Agent (hence the name lol) AFOQT: P91/N64/AA66/V79/Q52/ABM75 PCSM: 59 (No flight hours...yet./ 201+ is a 95) GPA: 3.8; BS in Emergency management and public safety from GCU Going for AD boards for Pilot and CSO. If it don’t work, I’ll be separating and trying for CSO or heavies in ANG or AFR. What you guys think? I can provide more data or background…

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has seen guys come off AD and get UPT slots. Always thought about flying but wanted to do other things on AD. Don't regret it, but now that I'm ready to come off I want to explore the possibility of going rated. O-3, 4 years in, 3 years ADSC left, so would need to palace chase (I'm 26 now). PPL with about 90hrs, but no time last 5 years. only really interested in working/living in one state (AZ), but willing to fly anything. Also, anyone know how life works when you're a reserve/guard flyer? I understand UPT is full time but after you get to the unit, do things work like they do with other jobs, Appreciate it.

Hello everyone, I am hoping to get an Active Duty UPT slot in the next board. I am 29, and will have my degree (Business Management) by March of 2021. I took the AFOQT in October, my pilot subsection was not as good as I had hoped, I am thinking because of my math (I timed out of quite a few questions). My scores were as follows: Pilot: 67 Nav: 56 Acad: 61 Verbal: 76 Quant: 46 I took my TBAS last week and I am in the 61-80 flight hours section with a PCSM of 72 (85 in the 201 and up column) In my degree program I have a 4.0, however a previous college transcript I have quite a few W's that I think are going to lower my GPA, not 100…

  16. Looking at pursuing the UPT pipeline dream be it AD or Guard/Reserve. Uncertain of how the prior service will factor into this- also looking at taking the AFOQT again. ------------------------------------------------------------ Background: Age: 28 Education: USAFA 2014- Management Prior service: Separated 2019 as an O3 Rec letters: 2 O5, 1 Airline Pilot + could get a Delta Cap, USAFR C130 guy (separated) PCSM: 74 AFOQT: Took at USAFA in 2013- Retake would certainly boost pilot/nav scores in the high 40's making them much higher. Flight hours: 1300 TT, 71 Actual Flight Certs: CFI-A, CFI-I, Com ME. ------------------…

  17. I do not use drugs recreationally. I do not agree with them. I have known Adderall is a drug that is prescribed for ADD, ADHD and so on... Right now I’m a senior in high school and currently in a intense curriculum program and working around 30 hours a week. In order to keep up with school I have used Adderall around once a week to every other week. I am not prescribed Adderall and I have never used it for anything else other than to complete school work. Even though that probably doesn’t matter. How does the Air Force look at this? What are my chances of becoming a helo pilot? Other than this case I have never used any drugs that were not prescribed to me.

  18. Just about to finish up my fixed wing private pilot should be 40 hours on the dot. Anyone have any insight on how age waivers are looking right now for Active Duty? I've already got a bach, with 4 years in the Air Force on the C-5 as a loadmaster. I'm 37, so I wasn't sure if I'd be able to subtract 4 years from my age for already active duty served time? If that's the case my age would be 33, would I even need a waiver? My goal is to get back on the C-5 or C-17. Would prefer to return to Fred as I really enjoyed the mission. I've been studying for the AFOQT for close to a year with two study guides I got off Amazon, and with my recent private pilot knowledge fe…

  19. I was referred to this forum by a current active duty AF pilot. I am currently in the end process of the AF Officer application process and currently have a scheduled start date for OTS. There are a couple of things that have come up in the last couple of weeks that have raised some red flags regarding the information I have been given by my recruiter versus what I have been told by several current AF pilots as well as a flight instructor. I am wanting to fly, however my overall GPA from college is just under the 3.00 requirement (2.75). What I was told by the recruiter that I have been dealing with is that if I want to apply for a pilot slot, I would have to get in…

    Started by Guest iloveflying333,

Well, I took the new AFOQT today for the first time and I'm not too happy. I didn't really study for it, as this is the middle of my final exam week, but it was harder than I had thought. The only studying I did was 2 nights b4 the test. I looked over the math sections and got comfortable with the instrument comp. I also did a complete run-thru of the exam in the ARCO book and worked a little with the block counting and the tables section. I reviewed the hidden figures and rotated blocks a little, but just kinda figured I'd take my chances since there didnt seem much I could do to improve. I felt pretty confident on all the other sections. Things went pretty similar t…

  24. Hello All, Just wanted to get some opinions on if I should retake the AFOQT to be more competitive for guard fighter units. Pilot: 88 Nav: 67 Academic Aptitude: 83 Verbal: 69 Quant: 86 PCSM 92 with 201+ hours. From the feedback I’ve received from two rejection emails, it seems my pilot score is a bit on the lower side but my PCSM is pretty much on par with the average for interview selectees. I have no problem retaking the AFOQT but I am concerned about the risk of potentially scoring lower. I also have 5,000 hours of civilian flight time. The only reason I mention that is I wasn’t sure if that would be a factor when looking at the…

Hey everyone, So I bought the Trivium and Barron test prep books and am using the AFOQT study guide website to aid in preparing for the AFOQT, which I take in about a month. Are their any recommendations or additional products I should use or possibly discard from my current study materials to help me get good scores. The first time I tested I didn’t study at all (maybe 1 or 2 days) but this time I am giving myself about 1-2 months of prep. i retook the TBAS and did pretty good. My current pilot is a 49 w/ a PCSM of 18. Once I retest I will start accruing flight hrs.
