I'm 37 and about to enlist. My personal mission is to achieve a commission. I know I'm old, but I've heard that it's possible. Does picking the right job matter? I have a BS is in computer science and currently work full time as a system developer. I have worked in a variety of other areas within the IT field (technician, DBA, system administrator, etc.) Currently, from what the web page says that's available are the following Cyber jobs for my base: Client Systems (3D1X1), Client Systems Operations (3D0X2), Cyber Surety (3D0X3), Cyber Transport Systems (3D1X2). Radio Frequency Transmission Systems (3D1X3) and Spectrum Operations (3D1X4) also appear on the Cyber Tech…

The 122nd FS in New Orleans is having an experienced hiring board on 21 January 2018. This is for current or previous fighter pilots - Eagle experience not a requirement, but it certainly helps. We have full and part time opportunities available. Send resumes or questions to 122fspilothiring@gmail.com

Hello all, I was just curious if anyone was familiar of the training course differences between the F-15 and F-16? I see the course length for the F-16 is 9 months compared to the F-15 which is 6 months. Which makes sense since it does not have an air to ground mission. Does one of them have a higher washout rate than the other? I've heard a fair amount of talk on here about washing out of F-15 but not so much F-16. Thanks!

I must say, this is a sick ass helmet.

  6. Started by Spicoli,

FINALLY was able to physical at MEPS today after fighting medical records/waiver battles for 6 months. 20/20 vision but I failed the depth perception part of the eye exam. Has this happened to anyone else? The AF liaison office at MEPS said that it doesn't really matter until you go for your flight physical, so I'm curious if it is the same test up there or something different. NOTE: this physical was for an AD pilot packet but I'm going to age out soon (turn 29 in January) and I'm not interested in RPA. Basically went through to make sure I was fit to serve, etc. but I'm planning on applying to several guard units in the next couple months. Any info would be …

  7. Howdy. Both myself and a colleague at my unit finished UPT this past summer. Like many other MDS' our schoolhouse is extremely backed up and as a result (partially due to poor planning from the wing) we are facing a significant delay before we go to our B course. In my case it will be 9 months total of downtime (no flying) between UPT grad and going to IQT. I'd like to sell the idea of a fam ride program at my unit since the problem doesn't just affect me. Like I mentioned I have a colleague in the same boat and we have several new hires in the pipeline right now that will likely be in the same situation or worse. My thought was having some sort of structured fam rid…

Hey all, I've heard that in previous years it was possible for off the street guys with no unit association to get an FC1 done on their own dime. Would any of you guys know if this is still possible? Apologies if this question has been asked previously, could not find any recent information on it. Thanks in advance!

  9. I am a current federal GS employee and will be going to OTS/UPT for the reserves. I plan on coming back to the govt job after transitioning to a part time reservist after seasoning. I'm wondering if anyone has any tips/tricks on maximizing the benefits while in training (i.e. how to clock/use Military leave, annual leave, and LWOP strategically your advantage)? Examples: Should you mix LWOP with annual leave? Use all banked annual leave at once so you earn more time off? Use a little annual leave every pay period so you're always in a pay status? Be in a pay status in pay periods with holidays? Etc? Hoping somone on here has previous experience with this …

  10. Will be visiting a fighter squadron during a drill weekend and am invited to a social event/roll call after work. Have read a lot of forums on here with the advice, 1. Don't be a douche, 2. Don't talk about yourself unless asked, 3. Bring a nice bottle of booze as a token of appreciation, 4. Be a cool dude(tte) Beyond that, any other specific DOs and DONTs you could give a novice for roll call and for the visit in general? Thanks in advance. -DD

Good afternoon, I'm interested in flying for the 177th NJ ANG or Homestead ARB in South Florida. Between the two, would anyone know if I would generally have a better shot of being selected by Homestead ARB since it is a reserve base? Anyone have any information regarding these two units and what they usually look for in a pilot candidate? Info about myself Prior enlisted Senior in College GPA 3.3 Instrument Rated No AFOQT scores yet No TBAS scores yet

  12. Started by QMar92,

I recently separated from Active Duty AF to finish my degree, BS in Aviation Flight, with the intention to apply to AF Reserve/Air National Guard units and compete for a pilot slot. Up until this point I have only been exposed to transport/cargo/refueling aircraft and pilots. The lifestyle of these pilots is very appealing to me, 3-4 month deployments, they can rack up hours a lot easier then a fighter/attack/bomber pilot could, possibly gain more relevant experience for the airlines with the utilization of CRM and working with an aircrew and even possibly be flying a militarized version of an aircraft utilized by airlines, Example: C-40, DC-10. My question is…

  13. Started by Rated Flyer 4 Life,

My current unit is starting to be a tough situation for my family life and civilian job. My commander has given me the option to either stay or go. If I do leave, he said they will help me find a new flying unit. As a reservist, what happens in the meantime during the process of looking for a new unit? Does the old unit usually keep you on a TR status? Can I switch airframes or do most units prefer you stick with the same MDS?

  14. Started by Yeeyee,

Thinking about switching my airline career to aerial firefighting down the road. Are there any guard/reserve squadrons that participate in aerial firefighting? I have my radar on the C130 squadron in Reno, NV, but no clue if they do that type of flying. They are in close proximity of NorCal though.

Upfront: I'm an idiot for not noticing this sooner. Question 1: Should I have received Aviation Career Incentive Pay ("Flight Pay") for both IDT (UTA/AFTP) and AT Days? (Or is it just for AT days?) Question 2: what's the best way to go about getting back pay for Flight Pay from a Unit that I've since left? (I'm still in AFRC, just another unit) Background: I left AD and joined the Reserves in January 2014. Since that point, I've done all of my UTA's and AFTP's, as well as AT days; but it has always been in strings of 2-5 days at a time. I've never done a continuous order. Which means that my pay has always trickled in as relatively small deposits (so, I've never received…

  19. Hey folks, I'm currently a tanker guy in the reserves, but I was considering an IMA job closer to my house. (My commute is killing me) I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a flying commitment for the USAFR? I have been flying since Oct 2010. I know of the ADSC, but does anything like that apply to the reserves? Does anyone have an AFI reference that I could look up? Thanks for the input. EDIT: I did find the AFRCI 36-2102 that addresses the issue. It does seem that even reservists incur a 10 year flying commitment after they get their wings. My new question is this: can I still look for an IMA job and still inter-fly with my current squa…

I’ve been lurking for a while And the site has been extremely useful so I thought I’d role the dice and ask a question. First I’ll give a little background I’m 23 years old with a bachelors degree in business with a 3.65 gpa. I’ve been married a little over a year into an Air Force family and I decided about six months ago that I wanted to join the Air Force. After talking with my father in law I decided to pursue the Air Guard and try to fly. I’ve been talking with a recruiter for my home (nearest) unit for about a month now and I’m getting dates together to take all my tests. I have no flying experience but I’m willing to put in the work I need to to make…

Hello, Has anyone else experienced wing FM trying to force a member to PCS for seasoning training? I live about 3.5 hours from my duty location and my TDY order were denied because they are over 180 days. My understanding of the regs are anything over 180 AFRC considers it a PCS however this is insane. I still have a home and family to pay for while I'm finishing up MQT and they won't fund per diem for lodging. Is there any way around this?

AFRC is closing our squadron this year and the members are getting little help in finding a new TR job. I ran across this document on the AFRC website, anyone ever heard of this program? I asked my MPF about it and surprise......they knew nothing and offered little help. I might call the POC on page 3 (marked as page 1) but I first wanted to see if anyone had any experience with it? My guess is that just about anyone coded as "displaced" is eligible (just as this document states), but I have this idea in the back of my head that if you are aircrew you can forget about it, only good old fashion networking, interview, etc, will land you a new aircrew job. In my c…

Does anyone has the Form 2030 that I can download from? I cannot view the PDF file on the www.e-publishing.af.mil website. I found PDF version of the form on other website, but it is not the 2017 version, which I think is the latest. Also, do I sign the form right away or wait until selected for the interview and sign it there, since my witness has no "Grade of Witness"? I appreciate any help or advice. Thank you.

Anyone know where I can find an up to date AF Form 24? Some units provide one on on their website but they are all expired. Probably doesnt even matter but just trying to make my packet look good.

  25. Baseops, I admit, I should know more about the in's/out's of mil retirement than I currently do but I'm reaching out to the guys who've been there and the pro's on here who know way more than I do. Handling finances with former spouse and they are asking for mil retirement value. I've been in for 3 years and told them (and my lawyer) that in the Guard its points based and those can vary year to year so it's hard to put a value to that (from my limited understanding). I confirmed this with my FM and personnel office (even had personnel office generate a letter stating that the 20/20/20 and 20/20/15 rules wouldn't allow my ex any $$ anyway). But even after all thi…
