Hello, I'm a 62 year old pilot wannabe, who does all his flying (and controlling) virtually on VATSIM. One of my favorite aircraft is the C-130H. In an attempt to fly it more realistically, I have been trying to figure out the proper loading of fuel. I downloaded Fuel Calculator v2.0 from your site, but there are required entries based on parameters I can't figure out. Any chance someone would be willing to do a little tutoring? Certainly not looking for anything classified, just trying to do things real world style, and Microsoft Flight Simulator doesn't come close in this area. Thanks.

Have you ever lost your engine? This is my story... July 24th 2010 It was a typical VFR flight out of Destin (DTS) like I’ve done time and time again. I got there about 9AM to do the mission planning and took off around 11AM. We were headed to Orlando (ORL) for a surprise birthday party. I preflighted the C-172 N53456, called to open our flight plan, then talked to Eglin clearance to receive flight following enroute. Just prior to takeoff I did the normal checklists and the engine run-up was fine with both mags working normally. We flew down the coast at about 1000’ taking in the scenery for approximately 5 miles. We then started our climb to 9500’. Approximately…

What the fuck is it about C model guys that makes them feel the need to put themselves in the spotlight. First there was now we have The hardest working fighter pilot in America. I mean obviously this guy is the hardest working person in America - he is a father, husband, pilot, works long hours, goes TDY, gets his masters, does EVERY FUCKING THING EVERY OTHER PILOT IN THE AIR FORCE DOES! What an absolute embarrassment to the community. Not just the C model community, not just the fighter pilot community, and not even the pilot community as a whole - but the fucking MILITARY. This shit makes me sick. Evil Eagle - do you know this dipshit?

Just read on another forum from someone who witnessed a C-17 crash at Elmendorf? Anyone hear anything? Edit: https://www.thenewstribune.com/2010/0...elmendorf.html Quote: Authorities say they are investigating reports of a plane crash on Elmendorf Air Force Base this evening. Some reports indicated the aircraft involved was a C-17 cargo plane. A black plume of smoke is visible rising from the base. Firefighters at the downtown Station 1 say they saw a ball of flames at about 6:45 p.m. and a plume of black smoke rise from base. They were called for an agency assist to a report of a plane crash but then were cancelled moments later as they got out on the st…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VU-hJ9r7fGg&feature=player_embedded IMHO, looks like he lost control in slow flight (whether mechanical or pilot error), rolled right, and couldn't recover. Punching out was a good call. Hope you get better soon buddy!

Can anyone point me to a regulation or reference that mandates that the tanker and receiver exchange tail #s during AR? I understand why we do this (mostly accounting, scheduling, but also in the event that bad gas gets passed), but i need to find some place where it is written down for instructional purposes.

I was a little off on my prediction on how long they would be held before they were swapped back. I said a month. It looks like it will be less than two weeks. A Russian named Igor Sutyagin is coming over to the US, and part of his trouble was in co-writing a book I bought on Russian strategic nuclear forces. It's a very interesting read if you can get through 700+ pages of technical writing.

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/07/05/nasa-chief-frontier-better-relations-muslims/ NASA Administrator Charles Bolden said in a recent interview that his "foremost" mission as the head of America's space exploration agency is to improve relations with the Muslim world. Though international diplomacy would seem well outside NASA's orbit, Bolden said in an interview with Al Jazeera that strengthening those ties was among the top tasks President Obama assigned him. He said better interaction with the Muslim world would ultimately advance space travel. "When I became the NASA administrator -- or before I became the NASA administrator -- he charged me with thr…

Hey there folks, I am one of the earliest members of BaseOps, I think I was member number like 70 something back in 2002 , when we had the old format, hoping to find some of old friends like MajorM2, Bishop, etc... Got deployed, got into flight school etc, I lost touch with most and now realized my account got deleted due to inactivity ... So drop me a note if you remember me, I am going to try to be more active here now that I am an officer too :) Happy 4th of July...

The story below explains the plans for the Reserves to take over the Legacy FTU at LRF. The big question is how are they going to find the people? Are there AD Pilot's, Nav's, FE's and LM's excited about becoming Air Reserve Technicians in the FTU? Even if they know the legacy herks will draw down with the AMP and J's coming on? Just wondering, H2Nav LRF FTU story

Article Here's how the USAF could make this a not-shitty 365 for Viper IPs: put a CAFTT det in Dohuk, supply a nice apartment, and a car. Send no support personnel over the rank of E-6. Make the detco an O-4. I guarantee there would be volunteers.

Anyone know if the folks at Flight Safety can/will remove the Centerline Thrust Restriction to an FAA Comm/Multi when doing the checkride for MC-12 training? I've heard directly contradicting information; Flight Safety's own information packet says that they won't allow the checkride to count as an ATP / Be-350 type ride if the student has the Restriction, which implies that the student needs that Restriction removed the minute they walk in the door on the first day. 2ndhand I've heard that more than one student has shown up to training with the Restriction, had Flight Safety add the Vmc Demo maneuver series into the checkride itself, and was able to get the ATP …

Greets all, Standard disclaimer--long time listener, first time caller... For anyone who is familiar with the rescue of Marcus Luttrell in July 2005 as part of Operation Redwings, there is a foundation that he is helping to launch next weekend that will provide a rehabilitation, rest, recovery, and reintegration facility in Texas for wounded and returning warriors-- Lone Survivor Foundation and the Lone Survivor Ranch. My involvement with that mission 5 years ago started by flying Hogs as one of two Sandy Ones that we had deployed with the 74th EFS. There's stories aplenty in that vein, but that's not the point of this post. In looking for more info about the miss…

I'm getting ready to fill out my dream sheet here in a few weeks for the T-1 drop in early July. I know it differs from base to base, but I was wondering if anybody knew a rough estimate of the current ops tempos on the heavy side. If you could throw in specific examples (ie specific base deployment rates) that would help out a bunch. Just want to make an informed decision of what jet I put down and I have a feeling that those out there actually doing the mission could give me more accurate info than the brief we're going to receive from those who have been around the training squadron for a while. Thanks.

Anyone know how behind the 62nd is at LR? When I went for PIQ I graduated 2.5 months late due to those shitty E models. I may be heading that way for the full MPD PCO checkout. Any updates would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone know a good link to find historical TAF/METAR reports for a location from less than a year ago? Also, looking for a link that would show a historical radar picture. Thanks
