1/25/2005 - COLUMBUS AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. (AFPN) -- Air Force officials here are investigating alleged academic cheating here, they said Jan. 25. The investigation involved 20 officers accused of cheating. Seven have been cleared of all allegations, and 13, including an instructor pilot and 12 student pilots, remain under investigation. Officials said that under current procedures, an investigating officer is appointed to research the facts of the case. Based on the facts and legal advice, appropriate action is taken. The actions could range from no action, removal from pilot training, nonjudicial punishment, administrative discharge process or court-martial.

I was talking to a friend of mine who has recently completed UPT and we got to talking about how us guard guys usually take a fair amount of crap (all in good fun, as an enlisted guard person I understand this and was introduced to this in tech school) and one thing that came up was an active guy having some hard feelings toward a guard fighter guy because he “stole” his 38 spot. So this leads me to my question. I was wondering about class drops in reference to guard pilots. Lets say there is a guard fighter guy in the class so he needs a T-38 slot, does that take away from the 38 slots for the active guys or does AFPC just add another 38 slot? Also is it done this w…

Does anyone have some funny Pattern/Area Buffoonery stories to share from UPT Phase II? I love hearing that I'm not the only one acting like a moron.

I don't know if anyone out there is thinking on doing the same, but any advice or insight on my situation would be greatly appreciated. After UPT and "seasonal training" I plan on getting on with a regional airline (if they're hiring). Correct me if I'm wrong, but a fighter guy might come out of "home station training" with around 400-500 total hours right? Therefore, someone in my situation might need to get 500 or more hours on the civilian side so that he can apply with a regional airline once he/she is through with active orders. I think most regionals want around 1,000-1,500 total hours don't they? Now, I know I'm getting way ahead of myself here, but I'm just tr…

Hey everyone, I just got picked up as a WSO and will be graduating in May. My question is what type of swim requirements are there down at PCola? As sad and embarrassing as it is...I cant swim for crap. I can doggy paddle and that is about it...can't tread water...don't know any fancy strokes (STS). Also, who else graduating in May is heading down there? Thanks -ElRoy [ 12. January 2005, 17:50: Message edited by: ElRoy ]

I've been surfing some GA websites lately and wondered about the cost of ownershi, maintenance, and operation cost for a few different airplanes. Anyone with any experience out there? Specifically, I'm talking about Bellanca Decathalon and/or Citabria, Christen Eagle II, and the various Pitts models. Any other good aerobatic GA airplanes I'm leaving out? How about the Van's RV-series?

Disclaimer: I am not picking on FW units, just letting you understand what might be at stake in the somewhat near future - purely FYI folks! BRAC will hit several areas/units no doubt and the Guard is attempting to consolidate(VANGUARD) its assets in its regions as smartly as possible (non-fighter units will be involved as well) I.E. - Former F-16 ANG unit at Richmond, VA is now flying its flag at Langley to save itself. When I say save itself, I'm indicating an issue of too many fighter units on our side of the house. This is not my summation, but kind of an obvious assessment during the last conflict and whatnot on the excess of it all. Granted, if we were at confl…

anybody attend Embry-Riddle (Daytona Beach FL Campus), and then later went on to become a pilot for the AF? I am thinking about applying there, but it sounds expensive, for mostly people that want to go to the airlines, and no girls.. but I hear the flying is some of the greatest you can find because of the weather..any suggestions..? Anybody else know of any other colleges that are near a beach, and are great for flying? (well the beach isnt that important actually, but it would be nice... lol)I have done my research but cant find any schools that sound des, maybe Kent but not sure either.. Any help will be appreciated!! Thanks!

How often do you run into a pilot on active duty that could be a top notch officer, but doesn't fit the role of pilot well due to attitude or personality issues? Currently I know of a cadet who will be going to ENJJPT once she commissions. She is certainly a top notch cadet when it comes to everything that factors into pilot selection, but I have a VERY hard time envisioning her dropping ordinance on another human being, regardless of how vile an enemy. In addition, I wouldn't have much confidence in her reaction to a life or death situation in the cockpit since she seems to want to fly because in her mind it will be all fun and games, not realizing it could be fatal…

Hey guys -- I'm pretty clueless about a lot of the GPS units available to pilots, let alone what kind of features would be specifically helpful for a military pilot. Anyone have any input? Specific things I'm looking for include: -Large, easily-readable, color screen -Battery life good enough for 4-5 hours of continuous use -Expandability -NAVAID database to include all US TACAN/VORTAC/VOR stations and airports -Ease of use in the backseat of the T-38 Any helpful input is a huge help. Thanks in advance, and Happy New Year.

Is 28 too old to apply for UPT? I've spoken with a recruiter from the guard and he says that I need to be 27 1/2 and the recruiter from the air reserves says I'll just make the age requirement. I just made 28 in Nov 2004. I'm hoping to apply in may 2005 for the reserves. Not sure what the deadline is for the guard. I haven't been able to get a straight answer from anyone. I know that you cannot reach your 30th b-day before you enter UPT. But can someone give me a good idea of when you would enter UPT from submitting your app? How strict is this age requirement? Any official policy that I can ref. on this?
