The rudder thread somewhat reminded me of this from another board. I read it on a car message board sparked from another message board.. Anyway, it made about 400 replies (some of which were absolutely clueless), almost all were from those without a background in aviation, but some were from engineers / physics nerds. So here's the question: I believe this was the original thread: https://community.discovery.com/groupee/for.../7451937218/p/1 This is the thread I'm referring to, but I believe you have to register to post: https://www.ls2.com/forums/showthread.php?s...ll&pagenumber=1 They're basically the same discussion though. Discuss.…

Just wondering what all of your opinions are on this: https://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,176935,00.html Kinda sad how PC we've become. It's ok for them to burn, cut up, drag and then string up civilian contractors on bridges However, if we burn some bodies for hygene reasons everyone screams foul-play. Sometimes I think our politically correctness will be our downfall.

OK so as much as I know about planes and aviation, I wasn't so sure about the answer to this one (given that I haven't flown yet). Anywho, I've heard that the rudder isn't used so much on larger jets, as opposed to props-can anyone clarify this, and why this is? Thanks.

I will be putting in my nav package in January...hoping to get a Strike Eagle slot. I will have 3 years active in January, and won't start UNT until May at the earliest. So, I wouldn't be at my first actual assignment until around Jan '08 at the earliest...making me a 2 year captain at that point. Will lack of flying hours affect career progression, and will it be harder to get selected for Weapons School?

My IP approached me today about going to Vegas for cross country. I'm hoping to get him to fly into McCarren and stay on or near the strip. Does anyone know of any great deals in vegas for lodging. The last thing I want to do is stay at Nellis.

Just wondering if any Fighter Drivers here have any first-hand knowledge of this. Not trying to p*ss anyone off, but if this happened two years running, that's very disturbing... Did The USAF Get Beat Up By India Again? Here's a quick bit of defense-wonkishness, which I simply couldn't resist. No-one's saying so officially, but after the shock of having their F-15s kicked around the sky last year by the Indian Air Force in Russian jets, the USAF must have been hoping to even the score in this year's US/India air exercises. The thing is, the only reports so far (and admittedly they are Indian reports) suggest they got another shock. This year the USAF took F…

Hey guys I've got a question for you about where a guard fighter guy should go for UPT. I know it probably doesn't matter too much in the long run, but here's my question. Currently I have dates for ENJJPT in June, but today I was told that if I want to go sooner they'll look for dates at other bases before June. Any reason why I should hold out and go to ENJJPT or should I take anything between now and June at Vance, Laughlin or Columbus? Thanks guys.......

It seems some on this board don't know what/who a Patriot is. Fortunately, 2nd Lt. Ryan McGlothlin didn't have that problem. Marine From Va. Killed in Iraq Firefight By Allan Lengel Washington Post Staff Writer Friday, November 18, 2005; Page B04 Donald Ryan McGlothlin of Lebanon, Va., was graduating with a master's in chemistry from Stanford University in California, headed for a PhD, when he decided two years ago to make a sharp turn and travel a less certain road in life. "He came home after two years at Stanford and said: 'Dad, I just don't feel like I'm doing something that matters. I want to serve my country. I want to protect our lands from ter…

Well, just when you think you've seen it all... Yesterday, I was driving on base. As I pulled up to the gate, I saw a man with facial hair (a mustache out of regs with the military) wearing BDUs. He looked like an overweight, beer belly, slug. I couldn't believe my eyes! This guy was in the AF BDU with the service tape saying Military Civilian or something like that. Now, I can understand maybe why civ's would need to wear BDU's in forward operating areas...but here in the states? Come on! WTF is our government thinking! This just makes us look bad. I think that if they are going to wear our uniform...they better damn well be clean-shaven and in weight…

What would you guys consider necessary traits to be succesful at UPT? Just curious. Also what kind of experience would you say thats needed before going in? (i.e. ppl and other various ratings... aviation experience in general.) Is it rare for people to go in with 0 flight hours? Thanks guys - Mark [ 10. All this Viper and Eagle talk has got me wondering something, for you fighter guys, what was/is the reason for you choosing the fighter you did? Mission, capability, sexiness, etc??? I'm no where near any choosing point, but I'd like to hear what the guys flying fighters these days saw/see so appealing about their airframe. Thanks.

Just curious. What is the average burn rate for the aircraft you fly / flew. I realize that there are many factors that affect this...but I'm sure that every plane has an average wag that you use off the top of your head. For slick 130's 5000 lbs an hour for cruise seems to be the rule for E/H models. For fighter types...cruise / burner...whatever you got. Transports...enroute....same with tankers. Curious on the 135 E/R models and the KC-10. Helos...bombers...T-6...whatever.... If something is grosely different fully loaded / empty....lets hear it. We are a gas guzzling nation and I am curious to hear where the different airframes rank in the fuel burn cat…
