Starting this semester, I'm going to be enrolling in AFROTC and competing for a scholarship/to get contracted. I am looking for any advice from those who have "been there done that" on what to do in order to stand out to the cadre and help my chances of getting a scholarship- and ultimately a pilot slot. If it makes any difference, I will be entering this semester as a sophomore with a 3.88 GPA, my major is Political Science, and I have a Private Pilot’s License. I did a search but didn't find a complete answer to my question, so if this information has been posted somewhere please flame me and I will look harder.

Just got a heads up from our cadre that monthly cadet stipends will be lowered by $50 for all year groups starting in the fall. This applies to all contracted cadets, not just the new people who are being awarded scholarships this FY. AS100 - $250 AS200 - $300 AS300 - $350 AS400 - $450 Also, I heard a rumor that Air Univ wants to drop the original FT slots number from 2200 to 1500 this year. Not sure if its going to happen but apparently thats the amount they're looking at. Bad times ahead...

Hello, I'm currently 17 years old so please bear with me if what I'm saying sounds rediculous. I'm a senior in high school and applied to 2 colleges. The first one I applied to was the one I really really really wanted to go to and got accepted and wanted to go to their AFROTC program. I got in and the Air Force gave me a FULL TUITION type 1 scholorship so I have until May to accept it. I was thrilled... Then today I recieved an acceptance letter from SUNY Maritime College. They have NROTC available there unlike the other college I was accepted to. Now I know I want that regimented type of lifestyle and that experience. I DO want to try to become a pilot since …

mods feel free to delete this if you feel it belongs in a more general topic or if i missed one that already exists. What is the policy for taking leave as a Lieutenant on casual status, awaiting a UPT class date? Is it any different because of AETC or training status? I ask because it was generally not approved when I was an enlisted MRA MX student back in 2011.

Hey guys, I heard that it's good to have some jodies to sing at FTU. Anybody have any? Here's one I like: My girl's a vegtable, She lives in a hospital. Refrain: I'd do most anything, To keep that girl alive, yeah! She's got her own T.V., They call it an EKG! Refrain She's got no arms or legs, All she's got are wooden pegs! Refrain One day I'll play a joke, Pull the plug and watch her choke! Refrain Post what you have, this should be fun!!

Hello all and thanks for taking the time to read and answer. Sorry if this topic has been covered, I have been lurking and reading, searching, and talked with my local Det and stumbled upon this question. I was AD Enlisted Mar2003-Mar2005 at which point I force shaped. I am about to finish my Associates at the community college under the impression that there was a 2 year program for ROTC. I visited my Det and after reading the forums as well as a few other places I have decided to stretch my education out a little bit to hit the 3 year mark in ROTC. My original plan was to do my first year as100+200 doubled up on non-scholarship while I took a couple of upper grad …

So after a quick search I came up with very little about ROTC orientation or what my future det is calling "Cross into the Blue" ours is two days long from 8:00 to 4:00 and I'm curious about what we are gonna do those two days. I guess I'm just excited and don't want to wait another month to find out. I want to be ahead of the curve and start out on the right foot, so maybe some tips on what will be expected of us the first two days wouldn't hurt either.

Hello, just curious as to who all recieved a rated slot that was in Computer or Electrical Engineering. I have been told that only a select percentage of these majors were even allowed to compete, due to the needs of Big Blue. I was not selected (although cadre expected I would be selected) and wanted to see who else was/was not. Also, if anyone knows the averages for these selects, that would be appreciated as well. If you are in these majors and recieved a slot, please post your stats. If you did not recieve a slot, post yours as well. -Thanks

I have recently found out that my job in the det for next semester is recruiting. I was wondering if any of you could let me know some of the things your det does for recruiting, that really work in getting people. Please help me out!

I'm currently an AS200 and plan on staying as a 700 because some extra classes would require me to stay in college for another year. My GPA has also taken a big hit this semester as well. I was wondering if people who stay a year long are categorized and given their assignments with the FY11 people or FY10?

Hello, so first and foremost I apologize if this post is in the wrong thread. I’ve been looking around and haven’t found anything to specifically answer my questions. I’ve been browsing the Air Force subreddit, posted a lot on there in regards on advice and guidance in general. A pilot (civilian who’s trying to join the ang) told me about this website so I thought I’d give it a shot. Alright so some background info, as the title suggests I’m currently active duty. 20 years old, based in macdill with the stratotanker. Maintainer, I joined with zero college, almost done with my cdcs so I can start working on my associates. This is where it starts to get a little…

I understand how the OM works for categorization, but does the commander directly recommend an AFSC (other than through UCR)? For rated and nonrated? I know that cadets compete for pilot slots nationally. Is this true for non-rated AFSCs as well? Or are commanders encouraged to fill hard to fill jobs? For instance, two cadets with equal GPA, one a history major and the other an electrical engineer. Would the commander have any reason to recommend (or give a lower UCR to) the engineer for an engineering job rather than a pilot slot because EE is a critical shortage?

Hi First I have to present my flame-insurance.. Is it possible to be active in AFROTC (pilot slot is my goal) and work at the same time? I don't want to be the cadet that is never around but I need to work so I can support myself. Thanks

Alright...just to lighten the mood around the approaching valentines day... just to ease the tension till Categorization results are out ;) What do you think about dating between GMC and POC? I realize that AFROTCI "highly discourages" it, but we are in college after all, and as previously mentioned...we're not officers yet. If you keep it professional within the detachment, is it alright? Or is it out of the question always? Opinions anyone? AFROTCI K-3-III

For all you college guys, Is it possible to juggle varsity athletics and ROTC together? Is it possible to still be active with the detachment AND get alot of face time with the CC and cadre? What are the ups/downs? Thanks Tax

I'm just curious how many of you guys commissioning here shortly are prior service, and what you thought of ROTC. I've done 5 years Active Army and am going back into AFROTC (I did one year, way back when). When I hear of kids saying ROTC was basically gay or worthless I cannot help but be stoked to go back! hah I say kids, I'm only 23 but two years deployed kind of changes you perspectives.

I would like to be a pilot in the military. I will be starting at a university in a few months and I am trying to weigh my options. I am quite interested in AFROTC, but, I don't like the uncertainty of getting a pilot slot. A few weeks ago I found out about the Guaranteed pilot slot through USMC PLC. Which of these paths would you guys advise? Additionally, I am not too concerned about the airframe. I'd love to get a fighter, however, i'd be happy flying any manned aircraft of each of the branches. Thanks

I was wondering if the UPT selection board looks down on you if you transfer schools after your first year in college? I went to ERAU were i was on honor roll all year, but didnt like the flight program. Im now down at asu east still doing a flight major. Will this look bad on my application? And does the guard unit like it if you have a masters? Thanks "Aviators are optimistic by nature" George

Hey guys and gals, First off, I'm going into my last year of High School in Southern California. I've known for a long time that I wanted to go the ROTC route, but now that it's crunch time I'm not exactly too sure on how to go about it. I've maintained good grades through 3 years (averaging between a 3.8-4.0) and currently have 3 AP class credits. I played Football Freshman-Junior year (earning a Varsity letter the past 2 years) though have decided not to play this year due to some team drama. I have also done Track in Discus throughout high school and am trying to letter on Varsity this year. If possible I would like to stay local to Southern California …

Anyone out there (AD/Reserve/ANG) know of bases that have a CATM facility? Not sure if they are called that all over the AF but the shooting range I went to at Field Training at Tyndall was called CATM. The reason I ask is that I would like to see if a Security Forces squadron would be willing to host an M9 familiarization for cadets from our detachment. Are these facilities only located at AETC bases? If so I am SOL, FE Warren, Peterson, and Buckley (all AF Space Command) are the only bases around here. [ 29. Hi everyone, This semester I'm in charge of fundraising...and our cadet fund is running rather low, so I'm looking to bring in as much money as possible. I was hoping some members here might have held the same position at one point or have at least been involved in fundraising in the past, and could give me some ideas on what has worked well and what hasn't. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. -Nathan

Does anyone know when the ENJJPT selection board will be this year? I know last year it was at the end of September, but I didn't know if it changed this year. I asked my cadre but they don't know anything about it.

Today, we were briefed on new scholarships the Air Force is offering: if you're interested, qualified and are selected, you will agree to becoming a CSO or ABM and will therefore go on scholarship and have priority for field training selection (like some of the tech majors). The other side of that is you're locked in to one of those two AFSCs; you don't have the option of applying for other rated or non-rated career fields after field training. Has anyone else heard of this? What do you all think? Worth shooting for?

Hi All, What does everyone know about the delayed entry program and categorization? Is it possible to categorized and then delay your entry for graduate school? Or must you re-categorize for the year you will be entering your school i.e. flight school? thanks for any info in advance!!!

I found this website when doing a little intel gathering for the TBAS. I don't think its considered test compromising since its just practice for what already well known about the test. https://www.proprofs.com/flashcards/story.php?title=_36014 Maybe some people might find it useful. I have a question though. I don't have any problem with the questions where the "UAV" is heading in one set Direction, be it N S E or W. Thats fairly easy. But when the "UAV" is heading say "NW" and they ask "Find the SOUTH" parking lot. Well... Actually wouldn't there be two "S" parking lots? A SW and SE? How are you supposed to know which one is the one they want?
