  1. I guess things have changed since the 80s and early 90s. I'll take the downgrade for GK.
  2. I was an Army Brat for 16 years, with most of those years spent living on base. I literally never once saw this happen.
  3. The AO would likely insist that you call the hotel and get a copy of your bill because the hotel will be able to provide that.
  4. Are there any significant policy disagreements between her and DeBlasio? NYC would be trading in a generic liberal with low approval ratings and lack of charisma for ... a generic liberal with low approval ratings and a lack of charisma. What would be the point?
  5. For the sake of argument, let's say that Hansen and Manning each caused the same amount of damage. I'd still support a lighter sentence for Manning. Hansen knowingly caused harm for money. Manning thought she was doing the right thing (obviously she wasn't). The law accounts for motive when assigning punishments, and it usually accounts for mental illness as well. I can't imagine there would have been much uproar if Manning had originally been sentenced to 7 years. If Manning had been found guilty of "aiding and abetting the enemy", 35 years would have been fine. But she wasn't. Further, I think Obama did everyone a favor by making this problem go away. The next President doesn't have to deal with hysterical conspiracy theorists making Manning into a martyr if she manages to succeed with another of her suicide attempts. The taxpayers are also off the hook for a sex change operation. The law was upheld and a criminal punished with a reasonable sentence that accounted for mitigating circumstances while also being severe enough to deter future leakers. I'm ok with this result.
  6. Pollard, Hansen, & Ames betrayed the US for money. Manning is a mentally ill dipshit who should have lost her clearance well before she did her damage.
  7. The sailor in question got 1 year in jail, Manning got 35. Some quick googling indicates that the normal sentence for similar crimes to Manning's is 3 years or less. 7 years in Leavenworth and a dishonorable discharge seems like enough to me.
  8. This is a hilariously accurate depiction of civilian life. I'm not in the airlines, but do a flying job for comparable pay. When I look back on Big Blue I think the same thing I do about my ex-wife: why the fuck did I ever put up with that?
  9. MFLAC, call A&FRC for contact info. They're confidential, don't keep records of any kind and most people I know who've used them (including myself) would recommend.
  10. Excellent point on the 26th amendment, I had not considered that. I'm not sure how much a difference it would make. Casualties in Vietnam were a lot worse. Vietnam was on the news every night, and you didn't get 200 other channels to pick from. I'd bet a week's paycheck that 50% of American's don't realize we're still in Afghanistan. I think you could run the Afghan War like we're running it now with a draft. I don't think you could run the Afghan War like we ran it in 09-12 with a draft.
  11. I've never understood this argument. The draft didn't stop us from getting into Vietnam.
  12. I bought a convertible as a Lt waiting to start UPT. After UPT, I sold the convertible to buy a wedding ring for my fiance. 5 years down the road we got divorced and now I have neither a wife nor a convertible. I miss that car.
  13. This is the correct answer.
  14. If amendments are your thing: In 2017 the GOP is exactly one state legislature short of being able to call an Article V convention.
  15. Does it come with a sweet Rebel Alliance flightsuit and helmet like the guy in the back is wearing?
  16. I think the popular vote argument would hold more water if the candidates had been trying to win that. Campaigns to win the popular vote would look very different than campaigns to win the Electoral College vote. The GOP just got handed the Presidency, both Houses of Congress, 33 Governorships, unified control of 32 State Legislatures and partial control of 5 more. If that isn't a mandate, the word does not have meaning.
  17. 2004 was much closer in the electoral college. It was a while ago, but we didn't know the final result until the morning after the election since Ohio was too close to call on Election day. Had Kerry eked out a win in Ohio, he'd have pulled off the Electoral College win while losing the popular vote. There was a real possibility that we were going to get a 269-269 tie, which would have been decided by a state delegation vote in the House (which the Republicans would have won handily). I imagine if Bush had won that way, after effectively winning at the SCOTUS the election prior, the left in this country would have imploded before drowning in their own tears.
  18. You could tweak it to awarding the electoral votes by congressional district, with the extra 2 electoral votes awarded to the popular vote winner of the state. That would avoid the need to adjust the length of Senate terms. I think the primary virtue of the electoral college is that it precludes us from ever having to conduct a nationwide recount in a close presidential election.
  19. I was twice passed over for promotion and separated earlier this month. I interviewed for my dream job and got it. They never asked why I didn't get promoted. YMMV. Also, there seems to be some confusion over how continuation works. I thought posting an actual continuation offer might clear some of that up. So, here's a picture of my continuation offer with my signature block scrubbed out from the bottom left:
  20. If BAH declines at your location after you're already there, you get to keep the older higher rate.
  21. Try asking the Wing Historian. He might know and he'll probably be overjoyed to know that someone knows he exists.
  22. Both. Not my problem anymore, started my contractor job last week!
  23. My understanding is that the difference is the F-16 dudes arrive on orders greater than six months, so that's a PCS. The poor bastards tricked/dragooned into RPAs are on orders less than 6 months which is a TDY, so different rules. The fact that RPA classes routinely graduate well past the six month mark means nothing since the orders say 4 months. At least they get per diem. You're right it was the previous WG/CCs policy, he's a douche also. I've yet to meet an Active Duty RPA O-6 that I would piss on if he was on fire. If they wanted money for the hotel, maybe they shouldn't have shoved the pipeline airmen into the dorms.
