July 9, 20187 yr No. Part of it might be. But it’s only tax free up to what an E-9 makes. Anything over that is taxed. What an E-9 makes for the month. So...as an O-4...about tree fiddy.

If the 30 (or 35 for pointy nose/drones) was spread across 12 months, you could see some nice tax savings when you go down range.
July 10, 20187 yr Anyone successfully got an ETP approved to be able to take the bonus...specifically, allowing you to go over the YAS limits as published? Or, alternative phrasing, since I assume the Take Rates will be lower than they anticipate/are funded for/need, will they be open to giving out ETPs to allow going over the published YAS limits? I can see why they have to put some limit on the YAS but if they are going to get the warm body that they need, why not grant an ETP? Any other old crusties in this boat and willing to give it a go? Yeah, yeah, I know they'll send me to the Died or worse for a year as soon as my ink dries on the ppwrk. But, I'm going with a long term play.

July 10, 20187 yr I’m not near a computer than can access MyPers right now. With the expanded bonus released today, what is the skinny on tier 9 eligible dudes?-9-

Tier 9 bubbas... - AvB agreement of 3-years minimum which extends member to 22 YAS, 23 YAS, or 24 YAS; annual payments of $35,000 for Tier 1 community; $30,000 for Tier 3 community; or $28,000 for Tier 4 community - Aviators with greater than 21 YAS and less than or equal to 23 YAS at the time of contract signing may sign a new AvB contract that extends the aviator to 24 YAS. Aviators with greater than 23 YAS are not eligible for a new AvB contract in FY18 - In no case can contracts extend past 24 years YAS Cheers!

Copy, so it looks like the only change from the original is that dudes whose contract expired before FY18 are now able to re-up as well.-9-

July 10, 20187 yr Which Enlisted member makes more than the CMSAF?None in salary, but they get their bonus tax free (even if way more than CMSAF montly) if deployed

I sure hope they can take advantage and do...and then properly invest it! I'm currently at the Rock and just saw a two-striper driving around some souped up muscle car...just shook my head. Unfortunately since I'm TDY, I couldn't pull up next to him in my '04 Volvo Wagon with dents and duck tape on one of the interior door handles and the transmission shifter. Would have been a great financial lesson...although probably would have gone way over his head.
July 12, 20187 yr Which Enlisted member makes more than the CMSAF?If an enlisted member gets a special bonus for their career field downrange the entire bonus is tax free. The stipulation for max CZTE only applies to officers.
July 12, 20187 yr Marines doing the same, shocking...only $35K a year. https://www.usmclife.com/2018/07/marines-offering-pilots-210000-bonuses-to-stay-in-the-corps/
July 12, 20187 yr I'm just happy they finally expanded the 12X bonus to all the dudes left out over the years. Every older WSO I know is jumping on that thing with both hands...but as we often comment here, they were already planning to stay until retirement.
July 12, 20187 yr Yup. I'm a older 12F and taking the bonus. The 4 year option's ADSC expires 2 months before my 20 year date. Seemed like an easy decision. Though I'm sure in a year I'll be regretting that when I'm 4 months into my year at the Deid.

I was planning on staying beyond 20 anyways so it was an easy kill for me. Little extra jangle in the pocket never hurts. Cooter
July 12, 20187 yr Every eligible CSO/WSO that I know is taking this bonus (which was long overdue). I find it hilarious because I keep hearing “it’s not about the money” for pilots. This is a case study of you offer more money, you get qualified people to stay. I understand that CSO’s aren’t going to the airlines, but it is interesting.
