March 15, 20187 yr I RARELY place cred on initial reports and "witness" accounts but they are saying it "burst into flames" while still airborne. Also, interesting that the hook is down? One would think the Super Hornets would be holding up better than the legacy birds but from recent reports the entire fleet is having serious issues due to overuse as noted by VMFA187. Prayers to the family.
March 15, 20187 yr The tail hook being extended on short final corroborates the stories I’ve heard saying it was initially a single engine approach. Taking a trap is SOP anytime we’ve lost an engine.

March 16, 20187 yr I’ve known the Johnson family since grade school. Brice was a class act and a hell of a guy. He will be greatly missed. Rest easy brother.
March 16, 20187 yr Usually happens to the best, didn't know either of them, but I'm sure they were they were great guys. It's a dangerous business and they will be missed.
