  1. We had six non-types in my class who were paired up for the oral/sim portion. After the main academics portion ended, they got two days of type ride oral prep before going in for the test. They then go through the same sim regimine as everyone else in preparation for the final proficiency check with an LCA. The biggest difference is the non-type folks are required to demonstrate taxi and a rejected T/O from the left seat as well as a non-standard configuration approach and landing from the right seat. Like most of the training at SWA it seemed pretty low threat. There were three DAL poolies in my class all of whom got their desired domiciles (BWI, MDW, PHX) on the very first vacancy bid out of OE and will never have to commute (insert standard airline industry caveat here). Pluses and minuses at every company, but when something works for you, go with it. We'll figure out who made the best choice in 30 years.
  2. Actually two. The original is at the BPC and there's a second being built on the CC side at this time. I'll send pics next time I transit the Deid.
  3. I closed on a VA loan with NBoKC in March and simply had a signed letter from my Sq/CC saying I was ensured gainful employment with the unit for the foreseeable future. They don't need details on what sort of orders you are on or how long you think they'll last. As long as you can provide a full-time LES and a letter from your Commander, you should be good. As always YMMV.
  4. Putting in another nod to Dave Devine and NBKC. This was the second VA loan I've done with him and he was right there when we needed him. We closed in March on a bank-owned home which led to a very frustrating experience. The closing company (selected by the seller) was beyond incompetent. We had several delays causing the closing to slip by nearly a month. With one roadblock after the next, Dave was there, trying to expedite the process. Toward the end, he was even working out issues with my closing while simultaneously feeding his kids breakfast... seriously. I got 3.25% with a $3,400 lender credit. Dave was able to keep the rate locked in for me despite delay after delay. I can't say enough about NBKC and Dave Devine. It's great to see that some companies actually still do care about customer service.
  5. I was skeptical. Then I searched 'Foglesong Flyover' on YouTube. I can't tell if the laughing in the background is with him, or at him.

As a new Guardsman, this one definitely made me laugh. Solid list!
  7. I just got my VSP (FY14) about a week after my DOS. Taxes were taken out. Does sold back leave show up as a separate payment?
  8. It's a 767. It's been flying since 1981.
  9. Please, for the love of God almighty, tell me that last part is a joke.
  10. I had to look it up. That movie has been around for 10 years. My lord!
  11. Please. The AF decided shit. They provided near blanket VSP approval to 11M's in the 2004 to 2008 year groups which (IMHO) equated a roll of the dice. AFPC was obviously overwhelmed by the response to the VSP, hence the delays. I like the way Cox spins it to look like it was a calculated move by big blue.
  12. While I suspect this isn't your creation, you have won the internet this week (and it's only Monday). Thank you.
  13. Was the phrase, "back to basics" used in the SII summary? I love it when they throw that one around. I've been back to basics at least three times in the last ten years.
  14. Question: does this work in a convection oven? I've had a C-17 loaded with these things and it never once crossed my mind to try this.
  15. Chuck Norris would have done it with the air deflector doors stowed... and JATO rockets.
  16. Not questioning what you're saying here... I simply want to know where this risk matrix is and how I can run it myself for shits and giggles. I am really tired of hearing about staff and their ability to figure out what is and is not safe for me as the aircraft commander.
  17. Sure, but what if your one working ADF subsequently fails? Then what?
  18. What kills me is the fact that PYB's entire site is dedicated to harassing Tony Carr. Tony Carr, a retired family man, studying at Harvard, who hosts a blog which he has admitted is primarily a vehicle with which to hone his writing and argumentative skills. The secondary effects of his writings have rallied a good number of folks who care about the state of the Air Force to comment thus furthering his primary cause. This whole thing resembles a 4th grade playground rivalry that has lingered on for a few decades too long in the small mind of this PYB character. In any case, it makes for good reading on BODN. I look forward to M2 reposting the post statistics chart to include October.
  19. JQP, timely as usual... https://www.jqpublic-blog.com/continuing-disaster-afpc-misinforms-thousands-disrupts-medical-coverage-transitioning-families/
  20. I hope 94-0069 isn't on the list. That POS had a lengthy bout of SC/EFC problems back in '12. It was painted with the Stewart tail flash but still used for CHS locals. After about three months and multiple flights back from North Field at full flaps, it was back in CHS colors. Somehow the NYANG stiff armed that one.
  21. Bump. Looks like the first 17 has arrived! I'm sure the coast(s) will be sending their finest tails. https://www.stripes.com/news/us/c-17-aircraft-start-heavy-lifting-at-wv-base-1.305094
  22. Is $17,500 the max for the Roth and Standard TSP combined? If I max out my Roth IRA ($5,500) does that mean I need to limit my Roth TSP contributions to $12,000?
