  1. Ah good, I misread the article when it was talking about the commander who overseas the helicopter squadron!
  2. I'm just glad they got rid of the Helicopter squadron commander. One team one fight!
  3. He raises a very valid point. Toxic leader found, now what?
  4. Post the email Monday. edit: if I can't trust you to post on the internet politely how can I trust you to fly a combat sortie?
  5. Unfortunately I don't know much about the flat track/motocross scene. Have you ridden any of the Cali tracks? I'm from the Central coast and been trying to time feellikeapro.com and Laguna Seca to one of my visits but it hasn't worked out.
  6. Anyone doing pre season prep? My bike was doing part street and part track duty, but due to my location, it's going full time track now. Just dropped it off at Raceworx in Dallas for a suspension refresh, new tires, fluid swap and safety wiring. edit: $35 dollar spray can paint job for the bodywork, don't judge
  7. TIB spends government funds in an era of tightening fiscal policies, this was a freebie fundraiser where people paid their own money to see a show. I don't really think it's much of a choice.
  8. You can homestead there for 8+ years if desired, you'll leave for a staff assignment eventually (could be at USSTRATCOM.) Once you make IP, the other bases (Kadena, Mildenhall, some other places) become options if you want to PCS there. But you will always go back to Offutt. Mods can probably move this to the RC-135 thread.
  9. It's like.. he gets it!? Too bad everyone underneath him still doesn't. Still waiting on the MAJCOM Supp before we are allowed colored shirts/patches/etc.
  10. Seriously. Thanks for being a bro and giving us a heads up.
  11. SGLI payout and Tricare coverage are two separate items. SGLI won't be denied, and I'm saying know your stuff so you can filter/advise what the CC is telling people. LoD is used for gross negligence, or say, joining knowing you had Cancer, hiding it from MEPS then trying to get Tricare to pay for it. AFI 36-2910 is the reg, and here's what it has to say about MC safety specifically: Not filling out a 29B will not cause a justified LoD. I'll stop with the tangents...
  12. Not that I'm saying it's false, but I'd love to read the RoS on those. I can PM my .mil address if needed. As for the SGLI, it's an Army link so yes, if you're AWOL or in prison, they won't pay the SGLI. However, the commonly claimed ones that the AF likes to throw out at Commanders Calls are bunk. http://www.monterey.army.mil/legal/wills/sglideny.pdf
  13. I've heard that before, but 1) The SGLI will always be paid and 2) They have to prove gross negligence to even consider that. It's designed for the dude who goes out and gets in a fight and knows he'll both be injured, but he has insurance and the other guy doesn't so he'll be ok in the end. I'm sick of hearing that threat for motorcycle riders, it's 100% false.
  14. Sometimes, you just flat out can't get covered. This specific person rarely drinks alcohol, has never smoked and stays active (albeit not as active as a military member.) I'm not arguing that the ACA has it's flaws.... I don't believe that I should be paying for some fatty who smokes a pack a day and shits out 4 kids on welfare. Like most things in politics, it's the middle class that gets screwed.. those who make enough to not qualify for substantial subsidies, but get bent over backwards when it comes to premiums. However, not denying someone based on pre existing conditions, and then making it moderately affordable for them is something I am surprised is getting so much backlash. I wish the overall costs healthcare in America would come down and all this would be a moot point, but lucrative profit is what keeps the good ol' USA on the forefront of medical technology. I'm never going to be able to convince y'all that the ACA is fantastic (and I'm not saying it is,) but realize that it is helping some well deserving people in a good way.
  15. I'm going to add some fuel to the fire but... Ever tried getting health insurance with a pre existing condition? For your car insurance reference, it's like someone hitting you with a car, your insurance dropping you, and being unable to get any other company. The ACA has a lot of issues, but it has done good for some specific loved ones.
  16. AFI 36-3208 Administrative Separation of Airmen, Chapter 9 Separation Pay, Section 9.1.2 "9.1. General Procedures. All the basic criteria below defining eligibility for separation pay must be met before a member is eligible for payment 9.1.2. The member must not separate at his/her own request" It lists a ton of considerations of what it gives as "his/her own request" which aren't covered in a RIF, but writing a DNR letter is pretty much the above. VVVVVVVVV well there ya have it folks.
  17. Wait, they promised that you would not be denied VSP if you were eligible for the RIF, but now they are saying you won't be approved for VSP if you have a UPT ADSC but will still be subject to the RIF? Am I reading that right?
  18. Cut ICBMs, cut associated personnel at the three bases, and the AF has have solved it's downsizing problem! I kid I kid...
  19. They fly so they can get flight pay :) Actually, if they do give Missileers incentive pay, make it tied to pulling alert like flight pay. That would be awesome.
  20. I'm curious. I'm an AETC IP right now, so wonder if that is being taken into consideration at all (no indications of, but can't kick too many AETC IPs out or it will have second or third order affects.) Still no word on FAIPs or Captain-type UPTers. Who knows, maybe they've thought about it all... or not.
  21. It says at the top of the Officer Matrix "‐ 11X and 12X eligibility is determined by an officer's Rated Distribution and Training Management (RDTM) Code" What is a Rated Distribution and Training Management Code?
  22. http://www.osi.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123376164 Probably not quite the publicity he was looking for.
  23. True statement. Cross-country time means-- (vii) For a military pilot who qualifies for a commercial pilot certificate (except with a rotorcraft category rating) under § 61.73 of this part, time acquired during a flight (A) Conducted in an appropriate aircraft; (B) That is at least a straight-line distance of more than 50 nautical miles from the original point of departure; and © That involves the use of dead reckoning, pilotage, electronic navigation aids, radio aids, or other navigation systems. http://rgl.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_Library/rgFar.nsf/FARSBySectLookup/61.1
