  1. I think what he's saying is that by changing the name from ACP to something else, it signifies a different set of rules that allows the AF to offer higher than 25k/year.
  2. I moved my first bike via TMO back in 2007. They required all fluids be drained from it, and then strapped the bike down in it's own container and sealed it up. Everything was A-OK when I received it, kind of impressed now looking back actually. edit: Adding that you have to let TMO know when setting up the pick up appointment
  3. Does anyone have an AIM or FAA reference for mandatory controller phraseology and expected responses?
  4. Definitely (I'm at Vance AFB now.) Track days are literally an addiction, I can't recommend them enough.
  5. I'll be at Heartland Park Topeka (closest base is McConnell) on the 27th and Hallett (by Vance AFB) June 1st/2nd if anyone wants to check out what track days are like. PM me if interested!
  6. I don't know if PIT PADs allow a wife and a dog, you might want to talk to the owners. I stayed at www.randolphpitpad.com and highly recommend it.
  7. Any chance of hopping in on this with wings on the back but normal front (for those of us non-KC-10 pilots who are interested.)
  8. Congrats, ride safe! Those bikes are a blast. Any planned changes to it? I just did a complete suspension swap out with Traxxion Dynamics AK-20s in the front and a Penske 8983 shock in the rear, both custom built/sprung for my weight. It's a night and day difference.
  9. Good on them - my post wasn't an attempt to sound smarmy, but to answer HuggyU2 on how we find out names via FB.

  11. Currently here and our class has had really bad experiences with lodging. 1) I moved rooms three times before finally moving off base into a Pit Pad (highly recommended for single dudes.) Building 393, my building, had no HVAC controls - you had to call the front desk and request a new temperature, and then they would forward it to CE. After a few days of discovering the heating element was broken, they moved me into a room with a sewage leak. Yeah... also no one in the building has heard of crew rest, the walkway is extra noisy with the maids' carts and doors slam at all hours of the day/night. 2) Another dude in our class moved twice in Bldg 393. There is another lodging room, Bldg 192/193 I want to say? that seemed a lot nicer and had local HVAC controls. 3) Haven't heard a single positive thing about the TLFs - one dude moved with his family because of bed bugs, into another room that had rats. Currently in his third TLF, it got elevated pretty high. 4) Another classmate lives in New Braunfels with his family, it was the closest place he could get on a short term lease that allowed pets. If you want the landlords contact info, let me know. 4) Most got off base somewhere, you have $1600 a month to find it, plus 42/day per diem.
  12. We must have vastly different experiences because mine is polar opposite from what you're saying.
  13. Are you sure? I know of one who works like 6 hour days, does his work, gives no ###### and goes home. Aside from the pay differentials, there are worse things that could happen.
  14. I love Ducati's black and red bikes, I don't really think there's a better combination of sexiness than Ducati and those colors. Do the track day on the Monster.... all you need is a relatively sporty set of tires and the PPE. Nobody wrecks on their first day, you're still too nervous to push the bike to anywhere near its limits. For example, I didn't even start shifting until my third day. To anyone else reading this and curious about a track day, DO IT! It's literally the most fun, addicting thing I've ever done, and that feeling is universally shared by everyone who attends. It's safe - there is no gravel, curbs, telephone poles, buildings, cross traffic, or big SUVs waiting to pull out, every turn has a run off area and if worse comes to worst, there is always a paramedic or first responder on duty. The people are amazingly helpful, polite and love newbies. It's one of the major fouls the AF does not push more, and ruins your desire to ride "assertively" on the street. WRT a track bike, check out your local racing forum (CMRA, NESBA, WERAclassifieds.com) and you'll see some amazing deals eg http://weraclassifie.../07-gsxr-600-3/ or http://www.cmraracin...k-Bike-3-800-00
  15. SV crowd checking in - been riding mine at Harris Hill Raceway outside San Antonio since February. Sexy Ducati Monster spaceman, been eye balling those for a long time. That, and Aprilia, and MV Agusta, and a Triumph...
  16. Haha nice topic name - however that link is to the end page that thanks you for taking the survey.
  17. Thank you much for the explanation. Really, 100 hours a week? Wow... Surely there has to be a happy medium, somewhere!
  18. Purely for the uninformed, what kind of hours/lifestyle are you expected to work for those numbers?
  19. http://www.au.af.mil/au/dlmasters.asp As said above, Masters progress is a strat'able item for the Captains board.
  20. Blues Monday is literally Schwartz's legacy.
  21. Sit back and enjoy the ride, it's a great course.
  22. Funny, that was my response as well. The military's abstinence-only approach to sport bike riding just doesn't work. I told them to contact me (as they asked) at the end of the survey as I would love to assist in developing a meaningful, practical and safe program to sport bike riding but haven't gotten any response. edit: On an unrelated note, anyone been to Hallett Motor Racing Circuit about 80 miles east of Vance AFB?
  23. Really interesting video/documentary on the IOM TT by of all people, Al Jazeera: Anyone else get a survey a couple weeks ago asking your opinion on three sport bike safety videos?
