Ive heard the rumors. Yet to see it. Its gonna cost 5-10x per flying hour of a TX to operate. Doubt an old apg 66 and beat up rwr on a A model viper is gonna provide any better threat replication for 5th training.

What do you expect, a fleet of Flankers? What is contract red air currently flying that's mo betta than a TX airframe wise? With an EA pod and a purple net type training mode it would be pretty useful to augment a few real 5th gen aircraft operating as red air.

Theyve been talking about tx as red air for a while now. The AF is using 38s now so im sure they are considering a TX with some kind of embedded training mode. Cheaper than a fleet of 16s or f35s as red air (of which we dont have enough). Wouldnt be surprised to one day see the tx as a tbird.

My guess would the AAR capability would be for red air missions not IFF.

Whats so special/challenging about flying an AC130 vs a regular 130, U28 or a fighter for that matter? No trying to be a smartass but seriously curious why you'd think they require a boarded process.

VR is great. At least it sounds cool. So contract out a company that has made flight sims to create a custom t6 vr setup and have t6 ips provide feedback. In our squadron we are still trying to figure out how to place the order through gpc or not. So we are learning contracting. Once we get the equipment someone will have to piece it together and get it running so we get to be comm officers too. Then afterwards maybe we can actually figure out how use the dang thing. Good thing we all have so much extra time.

Im assuming you're already in the CAF? You don't have too much to worry about though because with that attitude the community will find a way out for you... That being said 1 tour in ops then going to a white jet might best suit your goals and really isn't a bad deal especially for qol.

Well the iff jets with 16000 hours are bent to sh!t. The c model hasn't helped with structural integrity, ie wingtips falling off and cracked longerons. So yeah i think the updated seat is well worth it of youre stuck flying them. And no my original post did mean to imply that the decision should be hurried because of the crashes but that it was overdue from their constantly moving timeline.

With all these t38 crashes any updates on the t-x decision timeline?

It might be dumb, but having the flexibility and freedom to make the decision is pretty damn nice.

So which company if any tends to be better about dropping trips/minimizing your work days?

Not a single IP in my old sq would have wanted the 38A over the C. Except for BDUs. And the resettable G-meter rather than the plane narcing you out!

Huggy you'd rather fly with the parachute in the A model? Definitely not for IFF if you care about your back. Ill take the 38C's 0-0 seat any day.

They already have the sabbatical option... which incurs an 3:2 adsc. Not sure how many people took it. Also they may not want to take separated folks since that would only encourage more people to get out early to seek airline jobs...
