Flight sunglasses
Base Supply (Individual Equipment Unit--IEU) normally is the place to go. May need to talk to SQ Resource Advisor for the appropriate "mother, may I?" letter. See attachment and AFI 11-202V3, para 6.3. Personally, I don' t mind them. I prefer the bayonet earpiece and solid black frame--but I've seen some guys with the wraparound earpieces and the gold frame. Slightly dated message and guidance attached with NSN's and such, just FYI. Good luck... Pregnancy and PCS (TDY en route)
Gutsy call, man... Choosing delivery over conception. [grin] Hope it works out well for you.

Pregnancy and PCS (TDY en route)
As a herc guy, you should know that you're only guaranteed to be present for conception OR delivery...you choose. In seriousness, just talk to your CC: if there's an easy fix (class swap or whatever) he can arrange it thru AFPC/ AETC. That's a big part of his job. Expect him to work your miracle. ETA: or, he'll help you figure out how to mitigate the pain.

Good one. Rainman and I got it.

I Hate Reflective Belts
If this guy has three stripes or less, I give him a pass as he's likely doing exactly what his sergeant told him to do--and that's a good thing. More than three stripes, and I agree wholeheartedly with asking him WTF?

Mornings on Horseback -- David McCullough Brilliant bio of Teddy Roosevelt...while it does not include his combat exploits, it's an extraordinary account (there is no better social historian than McCullough!) of his early life. Follow this with Path between the Seas.

"Firearms? What firearms? I don't know what you're talking about! I don't have any registered firearms. I lost some some time ago-- a freak deep-water boating mishap--sorry I can't be more help, mr. ATF agent...".

True--the penalty for CFIT is either loss of life or wings...too bad you don't always get to choose...

Tops in Blue (TIB) - WTF?
That sounds like a tremendous "good deal" as in the days of yore before 9/11. I'd fly that trip, without hesitation, as payback for all the other crap we get to do daily. Just because the self-loading baggage isn't worth a pound of jet fuel is no reason not to go FLY, man!

Gun Talk
That's good news--most of what I've been seeing locally are new in the $950 range and used FNs in the $850 range--even at gunshows. I'll keep my eyes peeled...now that I know what to look for. The two remaining auto pistols I want are the Kimber ultra carry and the Hi power (both in 9mm). Thanks again for the info.

Great review..thank you Timbonez! I've been coveting a FN/Browning Hi-Power for the last few years--looks like you're also a fan. I didn't know there was a BDAO version...I may need to drive down to Cabelas (never a bad idea) since my local Bass Pro doesn't seem to stock many Hi Powers and the prices on the gun show circuit are nuts. Anyway--thanks again for the words.

Logical? Maybe. Uncool in this thread? Definitely. Want to discuss low-via landings? Recommend Terminating here and Starting a new thread. Technique only.

Gun Talk
So I bought the Sig SHR 970, walnut, in 30.06 and .300 win mag. NIB. So the question becomes: what are your favorite scopes and why? I have a Simmons on my model 70, and killed an elk using a friends leupold once...has anyone tried nikon or red head or Burris or zeiss, or trijicon? Have any opinions on the pro/cons of any specific brand? Edit: added photo. Edit to add: thanks for the words/PMs: I ended up going with a Nikon prostaff BDC in 4x12 40mm from Cabela's bargain cave (w/coupon) & weaver 1" rings: total including shipping was $203. Also got some .300 win mag brass/ nosler partition 180gr / dies / reloder19. Will post sight in results for both .300WM and .30-06 later this spring.

The Jill Metzger thread
Agree w/Rainman (wait, what?) that this topic isn't worth too much time from the congressman, there are far, far more pressing issues than this to deal with...that said, a simple RFI memo from the Congressman to the appropriate AF office, merely inquiring as to the facts of the issue might be enough to kick loose an official response. Said response may contain statements that could be further examined at leisure by the congressman's staff (sts). Then again, said memo may get sh*t-canned immediately, with nary a thought. The lack of a response, however, is itself a response that invites further inquiry... Congratulations on the election and good luck in your endeavour, sir. I hope you serve your constituents well during a term of honorable service.

Reservist Earns Airman’s Medal
Likely, the union will say: "because the crosswind scenario we practice in the sim is only x knots, and the aircraft experienced z knots, the pilot's training program was deficient." Standard.

Leather Flight Jacket
I have three ideas: 1- ask your Flt/cc to get you your RA mother-may-I memo 2- wait until after your deployment 3- go buy one yourself. You can get better-than-issued elsewhere. Likely that you'll end up getting your issued jacket modded anyway, so my vote is for option 3.

The Rise and Fall of Captain Holly Graf (USN)
Wouldn't work in my command. I have my share of incompetents--it's my job to get them to perform like superstars. If I'm the boss, I get to take credit and MUST take the blame for performance.
