  1. I hear you. I really do. But do some research on the whole ship temperature thing and why it was revised. It makes sense. I admit I’m no expert in the field. That’s why I choose to trust the experts. It’s that whole “nine out of ten doctors recommend” thing. I usually don’t trust the outlier. Problem is, these days everybody’s an internet expert and thinks they’re entitled to their own little version of reality. If we can’t agree on the facts, we are truly in trouble.
  2. You have to believe the threat, which I do not. Some still prefer to fly by the seat of their pants rather than trust their instruments (I.e. empirical data presented in front of them). More often than not, this doesn’t end well. Oh, and I understand that there may be an instrument that sometimes tells you something different (some data doesn’t jive). That’s why you scan all the instruments. Sometimes you have to throw the bad one out.
  3. Thought about it, but my boys’ (7 & 10) fun meters pegged around 430. Watched the viper demo from the parking lot as we were packing the car up. Maybe next year. 😎 Interesting tidbit: one of your performers this year (who is a co-worker of mine) happens to be a MiG killer. All in all it was a good atmosphere and much easier to get the wifey to come along willingly with live music and good booze on offer. This will definitely be an annual event I’ll try not to miss.
  4. Great show. Brought the family up to Redlands today. Well organized, relatively easy to get in and out, musical and flying performances were great, and that announcer was okay too I guess. Recommend. First time to this show and will be back for future events.
  5. This could be seen coming from a mile away. Expats have been leaving Emirates for the last few years as hiring in their home markets has picked back up. Why stay at a place with no union protections that forces pilots to BLOCK 100+hrs a month, and does not allow commuters? Like the USAF, Emirates management needs to be reminded that it’s no longer 2006.
  6. Hard to watch that video. Just saw a report that there were 9 aboard and the airplane had undergone “routine” MX in Savanna. The plane appears intact throughout the video. Some sort of loss of control event obviously occurred. RIP to those aboard and thoughts and prayers to the families and unit members.
  7. Although I encourage my mil friends to come over to the airline side every chance I get, I will not criticize them for deciding to stay in. I have a few good friends who are truly on the good guys’ side that are in their prime to make the jump to the airlines. And yet, despite the increase in pay and quality of life they have decided to stay. I had lunch with one of these guys a while back and he told me that he felt that he had a responsibility to stick around in order to provide the same mentorship to the young guys that he had experienced years ago. My hat is off to the guys who make that decision despite the continued sacrifice and the state of the USAF today. These men and women have far more patience than I do. Of course I’ve made sure they know that I will walk their resumes and rec letters into HR The moment they decide they’ve had enough.
  8. Anyone looking to game the system should do themselves and anyone looking to leave the military for airline flying a favor and forget trying that bullshit. You are literally screwing all your buddies down the line because the airline that you (perhaps legally) are taking advantage of is going to look at every potential mil new hire through the brown colored water that you just shit in. Additionally, mil guys already on the property who are doing their best to do things ethically are going to get caught up in the ball of dung that you just insisted on starting downhill. As if all of that isn’t enough, do not underestimate the fact that there are varying levels of animosity festering amongst your non mil co-workers. Don’t be the guy that confirms their suspicion that it’s your fault they’re sitting reserve over their kid’s birthday while you’re off doing whatever it is you do.
  9. While it is true that a precedent has been set over the past couple of decades regarding the President’s near limitless power to get us into conflicts, does that precedent make it ok? It seems that many people are opposed to this idea only when the “other” party holds the executive. Some of us have been opposed to this idea for the last three administrations.
  10. I don’t want my president making policy based on sound bites whether they come from Fox, CNN, MSNBC, RT, or the dark side of the fucking moon. There is evidence that suggests President Trump does exactly that with scary regularity. Militarizing the border is the latest example. The leader of the free world ought to be able to make well thought out policy de isions on his own, backed up by the expert opinions of a well vetted and highly qualified cabinet and corps of advisers. Sean Hannity and the gang at Fox and Friends don’t qualify in my book. I never argued any media source wasn’t biased. My argument is that the guy in the White House is, in the words of one of his recently departed experts, a fucking moron.
  11. Fox News says he’s tainted. The prez seems to think that anything that outlet says is gospel and appears to set national policy based on what he sees on that network. If it’s good enough for the president many Americans will assume it’s good enough for them. Sad....
  12. Is it considered a micro aggression or a macro aggression if I tell someone to grow a pair of goddamn balls. Probably highly offends the gender neutral sensibility as well. I vote Democrat lately and consider myself somewhat left of center. This is the kind of thing that gives liberals such a bad name amongst conservatives. These people need to understand how to be progressive without being such pussies about it.
  13. Good luck with that. Evergreen and North American are gone. Atlas and everyone else are busy with Amazon and their own stuff. Not exactly a lot of excess lift out there right now.
  14. I really don’t understand this concept in the first place. Let’s see if I have this straight.....The USAF is going to send a guy to the airline side to get training on an airframe they both operate. Presumably this will be on the 767 unless they are planning on sending new Lts straight into C-40s and C-32s, or unless United has some super secret F-16s on order. Once the guy has his type, he heads over to the AF side to complete his 10 year commitment. Now the airline gets him back with 10 years of seniority and likely has to re-train him in new equipment because they no longer operate the type he was on, or his seniority allows him to hold something else. What’s the upside for the airline? Think the union might want a say in this? This whole concept seems like a pipe dream dreamt up by some shoe clerk who literally has no fucking clue how airlines work. I imagine airline management laughed in the CSAF’s face when this was brought up in their little meeting a while back.
  15. How many Wing, Group, & Sq execs at those bases? How many jobs across the AF being done by guys with wings that could just as easily be done by someone else, or better yet, eliminated all together? How many bullshit missions being flown just to show the AF is all in? How many flown just to close out flying hours? How much time wasted fucking around in DTS, dealing with pay, mpf, and myriad other tasks that should be done by support personnel, you know, to, like, support the operators? There is LOTS of low hanging fruit here, but seemingly very little motivation to actually harvest it.
  16. ICEMAN - The Later Years - watch more funny videos Seriously, this is all I could think about reading this thread.
  17. Rebels! You guys are everyone’s problem. That’s because every time you go up in the air you are unsafe. My airline pays me a bunch of money and they say they want the heading bug centered, so I do it.
  18. My airline recently started installing touch screens in place of physical CDUs. They suck donkey balls. My opinion is that touch screens have very limited applications in aviation, if any. Boeing, I’m sure, sees it as a cost saving measure. If you have to have a display anyway, why not incorporate the buttons into the screen vs installing physical keys. I think the trend is probably here to stay.
  19. Sorry, still don’t get it. Law enforcement agencies get information from all sorts of sources. Some are unsavory, some are politically biased, some are even criminal. What difference does it make if the evidence presented is actionable? So the Clinton campaign paid to dig up dirt on Trump. I know you know the republicans were doing the same thing against Hillary. What if she had won and evidence was uncovered pointing to criminal activity on her campaigns part. Are you arguing that since it’s origin was political in nature it shouldn’t be used against her? Shit, that would put all of the Clinton’s previous scandals off limits. Sorry. If Robert Muller, the lifelong republican special council thinks there is reason to continue his investigation, regardless of whether some of the evidence was politically driven, let him continue. I don’t for a minute buy the idea that all of these republican law enforcement professionals are part of some grand, deep state Democratic conspiracy to bring down the trump administration.
  20. Here’s a question: What place does any discussion about Hillary Clinton have in an argument about whether Donald Trump and his administration are fit to govern? Seriously, I see this all the time and it bugs the shit out of me. Trump is the president of the United States. Hillary is a private citizen. If she is guilty of a crime, try her and dole out whatever punishment is appropriate. Totally separate issue from what’s going on in the White House and does not belong in the same discussion. It’s like trying to pin Iran Contra on Walter Mondale. The Hillary discussion, regardless of whatever merit it may or may not have, is just chaff, meant do distract. I wonder why the administration feels such an urgent need to turn everybody’s heads in some other direction? Trump is the president, not Hillary. Frankly, I don’t give a fuck about what happens to her, what she says publicly, how much she gets paid for speeches, or whether she still gives Bill head. None of that will affect the economy, immigration, crime, US foreign power, or American sovereignty.
  21. Understood. However, the discussion has been about how to pay for the wars we are in. The idea was to use your vote to let your representatives know you don’t approve of such liberal use of the military. Help me understand how cutting taxes while ratcheting up combat operations fits into the discussion.
