  1. I thought is was that he made everyone call him "Council Commander." Out
  2. AF Times story with a list of all the aircraft moves in AD, ANG, and AFRC. There are 3 pdf files in the article that contain all the good info. http://www.airforcetimes.com/news/2013/03/air-force-moves-forward-with-restructuring-plan-032913/ Out
  3. My door (on a Piper) popped open in flight and scared the livin' shit out of me. The incident didn't cause me to move out of my seat, nonetheless I was very thankful I had my seatbelt on. There has got to be more to this story. To come completely out of your seat, you probably need some good negative Gs, and I doubt turbies caused this. Perhaps more like some significant nose down trim and then let go of the yoke and enjoy the ride. Screw around with planes and bad shit will happen.
  4. Dear Producers of Inside Combat Rescue, Suggestions for next time if you decide to do it. 1. Stop reliving the previous 3 minutes after each commercial break. You never see this tactic in a normal TV show. We are educated enough to remember the last 5 minutes of our lives. 2. Shitcan the voice over, its not needed. If people need an explanation of a term or item, ask the experts doing the job to explain it. 3. Be careful of creating unnecessary drama. Lastly, thanks.
  5. I went and fixed my post. I was referring to this: This is the scheming I'm referring to. Now, responding to your point: There are indeed silly people that sit on promotion boards and will somehow believe that someone that started PME on day 1 of eligibility are somehow the most magnificent leaders since Jesus. Pathetic? Yes. Reality? Yes. Go along? Up to you. As for the masters, I hope common sense rolls in on advanced degree full retard and the AF says that a masters is not required, nor is it desireable for you to get until you are at least a Capt (preferable not needed until LTC board). I see dudes in training with the masters book open vice the dash 1 or 3-3. Someone's going to get hurt if we continue to play that way. Until then, AF has said LOUD and CLEAR, your masters is more important then flying planes. Flying planes doesn't get you promoted, but that masters will. Fucked up, absolutely. Out
  6. Then we should add a block on the EPR/OPR for "Smoker" because smokers cost a lot more in medical costs. Lets add another block for motorcycle rider because they cost more when they crash. How about another block for "workout junkie" because all those sports related injuries cost Big Uncle Sammy more money. I can predict future medical costs too. Out (with dripping sarcasm)
  7. As most decent SrNCOs give sage advice to their bosses, this story fits where the Chief reminds the 2 star of how many Es were shown the door, lost a stripe, prevented from adding a stripe, lost that supervisor job, etc, all in the name of the almighty and glorious PT test, praise Shawn T. "It will look bad, it will look like favoratism, Sir." And he's right. I've been there watching an NCO try to strain out that extra 3-4 perfect, all the way down, all the way up push-ups. And upon failure, throw down the water bottle in frustration as he knew that he was now going to lose a stripe for another failure and take away from his ability to provide for his family. That is FUCKED UP. On a side note, observing a few status of discipline meetings the bulk of the problems were PT failures. On the flying sq side, most CCs chose to request retention from the wing CC, but non-flying CCs more often did not request retention. I guess they used PT as a tool to get rid of undesireables or "slackers." And flying units could do the same, but they didn't. When we asked for retention, we got it. I will add that of all the discussions regarding discipline, PT was the most heated. So I think wing CCs are getting the full picture, but whether they take that passion up higher for change, who knows. Out
  8. Nope. Didn't bother to look it up and I relied upon old-man memory. It seemed like the DP rate used to be less or that I've seen some decent dudes that didn't make the list. With that, those current rates seem fair. Out
  9. So I saw this spreadsheet and on it contains every box one could check: DG, PME (both corr/res), Masters, Bac +, jobs like Flt CC, instructor, evaluator, etc. Then there were things like last 3 OPR bottom line pushes. Also, there was a PT test score. Then someome gave these items a point value to create a score. The sad thing was that something like an excellent on a PT test was worth more than other things like DG. Now I understand that promotion boards do the same thing, but wings should do a better job of knowing their people and not relying on numbers. That is why we have STEP promotions, SRA BTZ, and DPs for Os. I do find it a little sad that promotion boards override some of those DPs, but then again there may be something in those OPRs that just cannot be overlooked/forgiven. Perhaps an answer to promoting the right folks is increasing the DP numbers for wings to something like up to 50-60% and that a wing CC doesn't need to use all of them (in case there is a turd that needs to go). The rest can compete with the rest of the bottom 50% AF wide. It sure would make promotion boards go faster, perhaps easier. I'm sure most of us can rattle off the top 50-60% of Capts, Majs, etc. in our units. For school selects, since wings rack/stack their DP, boards can look for those top 10 and start there. There is a chance of favoritism, but we already have that, just dressed differently, i.e. the wing exec is number one because the wing king's exec cannot be number 2, that is why he/she is exec. Out
  10. While I haven't seen a piece of paper that lists the overall changes, AD drew the short straw. LR gives up all its active duty H1s and H3s. That is more than 10, but in the larger reshuffle, the net result is no AD Hs at LR, only AD Js and ANG/AFRC H2s. I hear Pope will go Js so there is your likely source of H2s. Perhaps there were some planned retirements that are now delayed in those numbers. Lastly, if you are interested in a particular unit, just ask them as they may know more. I'm just CSI-ing this from some news stories, rumors, CC calls, and what was passed last year. PS, if you are in a unit likely affected by this and not hearing anything, that's fucked up. Out What kind of work load? I did hear that many units cut their flying hours.
  11. He's an interesting thought. If the CSAF commands all wing commanders/etc that they will not use AADs for O3 or O4 boards or else*, they will snap to, just like they did when the CSAF said to get rid of funny pictures or else*. Now will he say that, probably not. Will CCs still use the AAD as an indicator of leadership ability if masked, probably. Next, CCs will ask where/what about the degree and decide accordingly, especially if it gets masked. What's next, club membership? My point is that quite often box checking is the only way to show wing CCs that you are good, especially when it gets down to PRFs to Capt. They don't know most of the Lts and frankly, neither to Sq CCs as many just popped out of the pipeline. What is sad is that now I see people with masters degree coursework out instead of their FTU courseware out. That is fucked up. Next will be the degree mill that charges you the least amount because TA goes away forever. *Else = whatever the man threatened the wing CCs with that made them all jump and take swift and furious action. It was amazing (and sad) to see/read about all the action that took place.
  12. Lt Jack gOff???? The G is silent, I swear! What an awesome name!! Just wait until he's a Major!!! Ha ha ha ha, Out
  13. Most likely part of a large reshuffling. H1s and H3s from LR need to go somewhere. Det 1 and 189th will likely get H2s as that is what they have. 302 and 182 fly H3s so that is probably what they will get. That working group that the AF Times article referred to probably pulled out the ol map of US of A and played shuffle-the-Herk until they were happy with the Picasso. In the end, the ANG and AFRC got to keep a bunch of planes and the associated units, so its an overall win for them. Active side cuts the rope and starts divesting itself of H active units, except for the few TFI units (for now). 189th will start taking over the H schoolhouse and AD will augment. Cats and dogs started sleeping with each other. My guess: If you are LR, tough to say. If you are in training, there is a chance of being redirected (I'm not a decision-maker and I don't know any numbers). Those close to grad are completing initial and moving to their units. There is still a war on and someone still needs to deploy and there are not enough J's to clean out AFG. The LR reductions will likely be effective in 18 months. One thing I will say is that if you are in the pipeline, those that suck the least may be better at surviving any potential cuts (redirected). That is the only thing you have control over. And that has always been true regardless of the times. So no, nothing has changed. Out
  14. Times story was hard to follow. AF News lists it better. Besides, LR doesn't have an 18th AW (sorry AF Times, you suck. Get someone that can write). http://www.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123340013
  15. I was expecting this memo. It came in a proper priority of cancelling things. First was TDYs, then extraneous flying (funerals, grads, sporting events, etc.), then the T-birds/Angels season, then lots of flight hours, and now TA. The TDYs, that was internal and the public won't see it. The flyovers and demo teams, thats external for the public. Flying hours are an internal hit at readiness and a shot to Congress from our leaders in the chain of command side. TA is a hit towards Congress from the people side if we start making calls as suggested by various military membership organizations (AFA, AFSA, etc.). However, was the TIB season cancelled? Out Ed: spelin
  16. There is more to the masters puzzle than our own promotions, and that is competition with the other services. "Look Jon, I know you boys think you've got worldwide experience with all that sailing and port calling, but my boys have more masters degrees than you and thus we should get more spots in the joint staff." AF News: AF claims its the "most educated" service with all its TCU TUI or "wherever nsplayr went to school" degrees. Out Edit: better?
  17. Nostalgia of that K2 deployment back in the day?
  18. Do they have a 3-3? Or do they just just the AFTTP 3-3.Shoe? Creative writers out there can have a good ol time drafting one up. Out
  19. Instead of taxing it away, why don't you go to Bill Gates house and ask for a few Bil, then head over to Warren's hut and get a few more Bil. Then set up a line and give everyone 10 crisp Benjamins. Point 1: lots of libs with lots of Bils, yet I don't see them redistributing it all to gov't or to the lowerlings. Point 2: Class warefare is awesome! Out
  20. I raise you a memo by an ass-kicking Marine that says EBO is bunk. The enemy has a choice and the sight of TIB just might incite them to invade aw they will view TIB as a sign of our weakness. http://www.carlisle.army.mil/usawc/parameters/Articles/08autumn/mattis.pdf Can't Tosh.0 just but TIB on his show and the resulting publicity laughs TIB into extinction? And I'm waiting for when TIB cancels all their shows and the funding is diverted to a few more flying hours. Out
  21. But how will the Army ever invade country X without its IMC "Normandy Reincarnate" Airborne Assault? Out
  22. Evidently the threat facing the everyday Joe Q Public requires an MRAP. Therefore, I should have ARs, AKs and 30 round mags because my PD doesn't have any MRAPs. MPAP = Mine Resistant. Where are all the IEDs in America so that I can avoid them? Out punctuation
