  1. just be glad they let our old asses into UPT
  2. gotcha and agreed. though i'm curious about BAI's etymology now. first remember seeing it written here. admittedly i was about 5 when it was published.
  3. the term has existed since at least the late eighties, but i haven't heard it used much.
  4. Going guard enlisted to active duty upt stud, I feel everyday like I'm driving the sole car toward Washington in Independence Day.
  5. there was beer for studs at vance drop from what i remember END 17-07 F-35 (fake out w/ F-16) F-16 x3 F-15E A-10 C-146 U-28 EC-130 Compass Call T-6 FAIP x2 C-130 x2 (Guard) C-17 to Hickam (T-1 FAIP fakeout) (maybe a second) KC-135 KC-10 to Mcguire KC-10 to Travis Saudi Eurofighters x2
  6. the viper on the left is that video was biggest piece of shit i ever worked on, still the least offensive thing shown
  7. after reading this thread for about a decade i finally went to my first drop night. reading back through the drop i remember the individual assignments but respect to anyone who can be there and simply remember them all. maybe it's a learned skill, we'll see.
  8. i'm AD UPT bound and i just spoke to the former FS/CC of my old ANG about the possibility of switching components again (back to guard) before/during/prior to UPT. previously their position had been "we can't get you an age waiver, so we can't help you even if we wanted to." well, i got one from the AD, i believe for medical since it was a delay in approving my flight physical. as a result the former FS/CC he offered to push the issue to help get me "home." any more info on that Capt's transition or any other recent examples? need to determine if there is a path before i make my case.
  9. is TFAP still an extant program in some form?
  10. very much looking forward to being in UPT as a 31 y/o prior e with this extremely humble generation
  11. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/sep/20/un-aid-convoy-attack-syria-us-russia?CMP=fb_gu Russia destroys a UN convoy, will be interesting to see how this plays out
  12. don't overthink it. people who know you well and can write something meaningful about why you should be selected are preferable. if there's an opportunity to present letters from people who are from a community which is related to the one to which you're applying, so much the better.
  13. LA Times is reporting one pilot is dead, second is injured. http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-u2-spy-plane-down-northern-california-20160920-snap-story.html him
  14. I've wondered about the selection criteria for OTS selects too. With any luck I'm meeting that board in the next few months and I wonder how competitive I can really be for ENJJPT with a 91 pilot and a 51 PSCM. I was told I can't retake my TBAS on the chance I bomb it and screw up my selection but I plan to do some flying and try to get it up to get it up to a 56 for whatever that's worth. I did two TSPs, one to Europe and one to PACAF so I'm sure the board will be excited to hear about my experience working with NATO and allied nations /sarcasm
  15. I was in my first day of 10th grade. I'd been sent to boarding school the year previous and I was working in the kitchen, or I guess more accurately, I was washing dishes. Saw the second plane hit the south power on the grainy, antenna UHF TV in the back. I am still amazed to this day how, at the time, I couldn't even begin to perceive what the implications for what I'd just witnessed would be for both myself and the world at large.
  16. thanks all, would love to hear from someone in Strikes.
  17. They're trying to decide if they're going to send me in July or October though, I guess now they are looking at my whole package. Told me my UPT orders would come at OTS.
  18. Here's my situation: I'm a 30 year old, six years in the guard still enlisted, who's supposed to be going to OTS in July for active duty UPT. I was told that I had an "age waiver" by my recruiter* and though I was selected in 2015, attending in 2016 after my college was done and after my 30th birthday was no sweat. Now they are telling me that I could run into an issue when I get to my UPT base, since I have no waiver per 36-2205. What they said I have is a "GS waiver" which was supposed to cover my age. My Questions: What are the chances I'll need a waiver? Does the section of 2205 "For waivers to be considered, the applicant must document an Air Force administrative, counseling, or medical error occurred within the last 2 years that prevented the applicant from applying for UFT." apply to me, the admin bit? What are the chances I can get an ETP, if need be, in my situation? *I understand the recruiter is the unreliable narrator
  19. aside from the classic. "chief, it's gonna be code 2, no video at all from the pod." "sir, you don't have a pod." there was this interaction, *crew chief sees sta 5 ejector feet down* "sir, did you have a pod when you left?" "yeah, why?" "it's gone." "are you ing serious?!" "yup." "how would that even happen?" "i dunno, epu clear?" (cc meant 119, air crew was thinking litening)
