Favorite AD MX stories from Dyess circa 2002-2003. We had one crew step to a jet that was broken. They asked for the spare and were denied. When they asked why, the response was, "if you take the spare, we won't have a spare." New jet, new day, crew gets involved in discussion pre-step about deferred MX. A fairly basic problem was being pushed off. When asked why, MX reply was that accomplishing the required fix "might" show the fire blanket around the motors was torn, necessitating a red X and replacement. They were putting off basic MX knowing there was a bigger problem. Prize winner: going out to fly a very high vis test sortie, a former maintainer out to support the test said his friends back at Tinker (B-1 depot) were surprised we were taking this particular jet on account of the large cracks discovered in the longeron. No notes in forms, but discussion with MX confirmed they were discussing it over the last week. We elected to take the spare, then move the weapons to a third jet before going.

Yeah, that would be the AD bitch. You've got an MC rate 30% better, but you forgot to flip to page 69 covering panel fasteners. Got it, that totally invalidates the work done. Good thing you took em back, we might have continued to make em fly.

When I first showed up in the KANG, we had guys who had worked on F-100s, Thuds, F-4s, Vipers and the B-1. Those guys could fix anything. I saw them R^2 an engine at brief time, an hour prior to step. The sortie took off on schedule.

"The impacts of the realignment will become noticeable over time as crosstalk among maintainers and aviators increases across all three platforms, creating opportunities in training, tactics development, doctrine development, aircraft modernization and acquisition," Wilson said. False. They don't fly the same profiles, the all use different tactics, they were built in different decades, one has hit targets in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria. The others sit alert. This is not a good match. BTW what is the 3-1 brevity term for troll?
  5. Leadership has seen the news and knows Cyber is important. TFCS shows we are doing something. Same with the Cyber Mission Force (CMF) and Cyber Protection Teams (CPT). It probably won't work at first or for a long time but by flailing wildly, we are showing that we are doing "something"
  6. You have to complete 26 hours of CBT without a pit stop in order to operate it. They don't even show s reflective belt. You could die changing a tire on your flat black car.
  7. Right, because nuclear bomber strikes are something we do all the time, completely outweighing any consideration for the 60 year old other jet.

Surprised this hasn't made its way back to the top after the ISIS threats against the Mall of America. The Mall Ninja was just ahead of his time.
  9. ...because that happened a lot. Hordes of barfing death zombies. Stay prepared.
  10. Gen C Michael Mosely provides a good review of what happens when SECAF and CSAF continue to push an agenda (more F-22s) that doesn't line up with the bosses priorities. Oh, and don't misplace nukes.
  11. I wouldn't have that hanging in your office during your next periodic re-investigation. Those guys have had their sense of humor surgically removed.
  12. Know the threat, teach the threat, replicate the threat. That is the mission. There have been and still are Aggressors serving in TFI units in the 57th ATG.
  13. Why cant the pro-LGBT side of the discussion answer a question. I think its a legit question and all you have is "You're a bigot." Before Brick walks away (rightly) in frustration, I'll repose the question. "Chris" just joined the organization. You as the commander are charged with enforcing standards and discipline. What set of standards does this airman use? If Chris doesn't maintain standards, what is the message to the rest of the squadron?
  14. Mors Ab Alto! Always thought that was a pretty succinct summary of the job. Glad to see it isn't being sugar coated or glossed over.
  15. You have got to be kidding me. I know tons of dudes who have IDE done and didn't get promoted. IDE and Masters and didn't get promoted. O-6 is a lot more about your skills as a politician, although not getting DE complete is a good way to remove yourself from consideration.
  16. Did not think it was possible. Most guard apps I've seen ask if you are receiving retirement pay. Thought that was an either or choice.
  17. We also have an ethics czar, a copyright czar, auto recovery czar, and a Guantanamo Bay czar. The only thing these all have in common is that the administration needed to be "doing something." In this case, they appointed a doctor? Nope, he is Joe Bidens former Chief of Staff. I'm getting the feeling that I'm in the minority, but it shocks me that for a group who normally defends the freedom of US citizens, everyone is ready to shut down the airports and start anal probing everyone arriving from overseas over a death toll of one person in the US. I understand the losses have been horrific in West Africa, but the US medical system is far better than what they have in West Africa. I've seen medical isolation up close when someone I knew was thought to have active Tuberculosis. It was a week in a hospital with airlock doors and medical staff in full gear. I think the medical system is more capable than the news media give them credit. The whole panic that is setting in reminds me of the early days of AIDS when people worried about getting sick from a toilet seat. If the cases start piling up, I retract my previous statements, but the response is getting far out of hand for the level of the threat. Definitely not something to blow off, definitely something to keep an eye on, but not a full blown panic.
  18. Getting hit by a car probably does have a PK around 70 if the speed is high enough. Motor vehicle fatalities in 2012 were 33,561. We've had one death from Ebola. Its spread by contact with bodily fluids. How often have you been puked on recently? The news media is making this into way more of a panic than it should be. I'm just saying to keep the probability of meeting a contagious ebola patient in the US in perspective.
  19. Hey, this disease has killed 1 and made 2 nurses sick in the US. Time to go full "Contageon". Driving to work poses 10,000 times greater risk to most Americans than Ebola
  20. Being "retired" and in the guard are mutually exclusive.
  21. My impression is that it has nothing at all to do with you personally. The only factor considered is AFSC. I was a T prefix instructor with no bad indicators in an undermanned year group. The only people they kept were pilots that year. I don't think you will have any way to influence the decision.
  22. So to speak.
  23. I think you can write a letter to decline consideration for promotion, but I'm not sure you can decline once selected. Maybe there is a 7 day opt like with PCS?
  24. I'm not sure there are any positives to making a medium sized nation into two smaller ones beyond a temporary boost in Scottish self esteem. Soon they'll be right up there with Luxenberg, Lithuania and Estonia amongst the power players.
  25. That's easy to have fun with. Borrow a few name tags before you leave home. Step 2: visit every building on base in flight suit but keep changing name tags. Make sure your SQ/CC is represented too. Pro-tip: don't do it at a base when you are the only guy there from your squadron. Plausible deniability gets lost that way.
