  1. Congrats on the retirement! Thanks for serving! The fact that there's an ADSC for being a P'cola instructor CSO that's anything more than just a PCS ADSC should go in the "What's wrong w/ the AF" thread.
  2. This seems like impersonating an officer to me, which is already a crime. I think that falsely stating a person was a war hero to gain personal fame, a different image, or just as some weird Facebook stunt should remain protected. The Supreme Court thought the same. Thankfully, in a world of iPhones, web-enabled watches and Facebook-friendly widgets, society tends to correct these guys before the judicial system ever can.
  3. It could be worse... at least I'm tall enough to ride the six-flags rides. Here are my favorite nav jokes: "Never trust a WSO who doesn't wear glasses" "What's the difference between a gay guy and a nav? The gay guy has a future in the Air Force" "What do you call a nav who has been retired for five years? A GS-12." "Why do we give leather jackets to navs? To better contain the smell."
  4. The fact that there is an ADSC at all for this is just insane.
  5. Just to add a data point to the conversation: I was offered a civilian job with a defense/commercial aerospace company with large plants in both Seattle and St Louis. The job was in the flight test department. Once I really compared the benefits, I found staying in to be the better path.
  6. My view is that lying through your teeth and being a faker F-tard should remain a protected form of expression. Now that doesn't mean it shouldn't be called out and that the bastards shouldn't be "Martinized" ...just that it should be free of criminal penalty.
  7. Isn't looking like a large bag o' douche punishment enough?
  8. The SBA veterans small business loans are quite the deal if you don't want to work for the man.
  9. It's also interesting to see how thoughts on the gun have changed. 45 years ago, we needed a gun to counter a highly maneuverable BFM adversary. These days, it's the danger-close weapon of choice.
  10. Negative.... It's one of Donald's nephews....
  11. Don't bring a nicer car and park it on Cambridge streets: the drunken cyclist and mirror clipped by lorrie (truck) threats are large. I bought beaters and then sold them as I deployed to save insurance money.
  12. You may want to just pay a DPE to do this for you. They'll charge, but you'll get this solved quickly. Consider the value of your time here... There are some guys who have specialized in turning your stack of Forms 8 and mil comp tests into appropriate pilot, flight instructor, and type ratings. If you're in or TDY to Fort Walton Beach or Boston areas, I can recommend DPEs.
  13. Yep... To make that more clear, you have to have "Commercial Pilot ...Airplane Single Engine Land (or Sea)" on your pilot certificate before they'll put "Airplane Single Engine" on your flight instructor certificate. Did you ever do the commercial mil comp?
  14. This info need not be private: If you're near VPS/HRT and are in need of a FAA Class I/II, go see Dr. Reddoch Williams. http://flightphysical.com/dr-williams-fort-walton-beach
  15. Actually, I think this very forum and JQP have done a lot. Simply having a publicly-facing vehicle to communicate and vent has been a great resource to commanders who are smart enough to harness its value. As an example, I don't think there would have been some of the senior-level interventions during the Force Shaping fiasco had it not been for BO.net and JQP. I don't think a Fogelsong can emerge as a MAJCOM/CC in an environment where blatant command buffoonery is now impossible to hide.
  16. I think the only work out there is contract red-air, but likely no growth there....
  17. What's really wrong with the AF is that it takes at least MAJCOM approval to shut a club. Rather than figure out how to best provide air, space, and cyber power, WG/CCs are spending way too much time figuring out how to keep all the balls in the air when it simply isn't possible.
  18. One of my favorite recurring AF moments is emptying the pockets of my mess dress when an event comes up and finding the booze that I stuffed in there from the last event. Then, prior to the event, I buy a bunch of hotel sampler booze bottles and the cycle repeats itself....
  19. This whole Restricted ATP concept is only about 2 years old....
  20. Dupe

    FY2015 NDAA

Not entirely true.... You can also cut personnel.
  21. Perhaps a fourth possibility is that Bowe tried to commit suicide by Taliban, failed, and became a pawn instead.
  22. That's the problem: the $25K ACP limit was enacted now 15 years ago, and hasn't been updated since. At the same time, the DoD has been too busy trying to get other more important items into the NDAA that ACP gets lost every time. I'm not sure if it's legal to peg ACP to CPI or some other inflationary measure.
  23. What do you call a government official accepting payment when he knows it's illegal to do so? Maybe "milking" isn't the right term. How about corruption? This is like the fire marshall taking a tip after a successful fire inspection on a new building....
  24. It's a bunch of balderdash. Aerojet is never a prime... They're always just a sub. ...and to bring back the monopoly discussion... Aerojet is pretty much the only solid rocket motor maker in the US. Nobody ever mentions that (to include SpaceX).
  25. This guy was a federal employee who should be giving check rides for free as part of his federal service. DPEs are sanctioned by the FAA to give check rides at a rate of their choosing. There are a few FAA GS types at each FSDO who can give check rides, and it's illegal for them to charge. Most mil dudes probably assumed he was a DPE vice a FAA guy and happily forked over $300.
