Leadership at the 'Deid
Mine was also sarcastic. Maybe I should have included some douche with my post.

Leadership at the 'Deid
This one time, I was at Kandahar and I came back from 80 straight missions and had to drink bottled water that tasted mildly like dirt and smell poo everywhere I went because there is no booze and I lived a quarter mile from 50,000 gallons of unfilterd shit. Cry me a river.

FAA OKs iPad for Pilots’ Charts
Heard from a reliable source that the AMC/CC asked how much AMC spends on FLIP in a year ($35M) and how much it would cost to buy every pilot in AMC an iPad 2 ($4M). Apparently $31M in savings was enough to convince the 4-star that the time for e-pubs has arrived and all AMC pilots will have one by Christmas. Can anyone confirm or deny?

Drunk Nav How bad did that co-pilot suck if they'd rather let a drunk nav fly than him.

Form 8 checkride
Double jeopardy, that's hilarious! You aren't being tried in a court of law, you're being periodically requalified to fly a USAF aircraft. They can give you all the checkrides they want. I had five one year, including two no-notices. And the vol. 2s (11-202 and 11-2MDS) are the regs that deal with checkrides. I don't know what other reg you might be referring to.

M. Obama's plane to aborts landing - controllers fired
I wonder if the C-17 crew will get a DFC.

M. Obama's plane to aborts landing - controllers fired
Holy fucking retarded reporter, Batman! The headline says that the controllers involved in the Michelle Obama go-around were fired, but then the article clearly says that the two controllers that were fired were from completely different incidents. One was in Tennessee and the other was in Miami. You don't have to know anything about flying to know that Tennessee and Miami are not anywhere near Andrews. I also love this quote from the US Transportation Secretary: Backup wind?! Apparently you don't need to know shit about flying to be in charge of the FAA. YGBFSM!

Col John Boyd
Unfortunately in the 3-3 for both the C-130E/H and the J, the EM diagram is attributed to Col John Body...and they won't let you submit an 847 for typographical errors.

All Female F-15E Mission
So it IS okay to treat military members differently based on their sex? That is not what MEO keeps telling me, they must need to update their pubs.

Down Goes #4
While I think this article is pretty interesting, it is fundamentally flawed. Massive upsets like the ones they routinely have in the NCAA Basketball tournament, and during the regular season in general, are much less common in football. While you may see the occasional Appalachian State beating Michigan (haha, that still cracks me up!) the odds of seeing, say, Air Force beat Florida St., Boise St., Florida and Oregon would be astrnomical.

Well, we're screwed.
Does anybody else find it humorous that they went to the trouble of putting F-22 style angles on the fuselage and tail so it would be "stealthy" and then stuck a big propeller on top?

The Yemen Situation
Normally I'm not a spelling Nazi, and I understand there is no real approved Arabic-to-English standard spellings, but there are like three threads on here where dudes are spelling Al Qaeda with a "u" and it's weirding me out.

SDP (Savings Deposit Program)
I've maxed out my SDP this deployment for the first time. If you read all the official mumbo jumbo on the SDP site, it says they only update the balance on your SDP in myPay on the first of the month. So if you put money in on the second of the month, it won't show up in your balance until almost a month later. Also, any money you put in after the 10th won't begin to accrue interest until the first of the next month. Apparently DFAS doesn't have computers that can transer money like every bank in the industrialized world, so they rely upon carrier pigeons to deliver your money from the AOR to CONUS. If the pigeons get confused and try to fly west, the jet stream can delay your deposit indefinitely.

I didn’t deserve my combat pay
He makes some good points. I have been saying for years there is no reason to have CZTE and HFP for people who never set foot off of Ali Al Salem, the Deid, etc. However, to not get combat pay in places like Baghdad and Balad where they at least used to have rocket attacks regularly is kind of ridiculous. It also obviously pisses me off what he is implying about pilots getting combat pay. Even if he were right about no fixed wing aircraft being shot down in this war (he's not) we still get shot at, get bullet holes in our planes from time to time, land at some dangerous ass places with no security, and of course there always the possibility of this happening. But yeah, tanker guys shouldn't be getting combat pay.

What is the main cause of a plane crash?
As a Wing FSO at a deployed location with quite a mixed bag of airframes, I have found one factor has played into all the mishaps we've had as well as 75% of the near misses: Aircrew wearing sunglasses on their heads in the Dining Facility on their way to the aircraft.
