  1. You might hit that mark by the end of the weekend. Membership just about tripled in 24 hours. Oh yeah, joined+invites sent.
  2. I think you're barking up the wrong tree, pal. If you can't get them through public sources, don't expect anyone here to hand them out either.
  3. Jesus titty-fucking christ. I'm going over to the de motivational poster thread.
  4. I started my paperwork with my ANG unit about 3 months before I left active duty, and was off active duty for another 3 months before it was all done and I was officially "in the unit." Fortunately, because I started early, they back dated all of my paperwork so I did not have a break in service and all of the ass pain that can go along with it. My advice, put in the legwork now and take your vacation once you're in a unit. You'll be glad you did.
  5. Load clear! This is probably the most disgusting part of your story.
  6. No one ever said low levels require airdrops at the end of the route. Have you never heard of a single ship low level ingress to an LZ?
  7. I was briefing to fly my 2nd FAM sortie at Corpus. We came out of the briefing room to find a crowd huddled around the TV watching the smoke rising from one of the towers. We were running a little late, so we hurriedly stepped, pre-flighted, and cranked motors. We tried to check ATIS prior to taxi, but there was no recording, so we called for taxi. Before we got a response, the recording came back on with a very excited controller directing all Navy Corpus aircraft to discontinue training, return to NASCC immediately and land full-stop, no touch and go's. None of us made the connection to what we'd seen on the TV before stepping, so needless to say our IP was a bit annoyed. I was going to ride jumpseat for the first half, so I was the one to pop the crew door open after shutdown. As I did, one of the contract maintainers was running up to the door yelling, "They hit the Pentagon!" That's when it finally hit me. Most of us spend the next couple hours glued to the TV in the lounge until one of my classmates suddenly jumped up and bolted for the door. "HOLY SHIT, we've got to get out of here before they lock down the base!"
  8. How confident in that statement are you really?

    Gun Talk

    ...with my own guns.
  10. I have it zip tied, but didn't like how I had to mount it with the OA headpad. I put the stock pad back on and it feels just fine. [brokenrecord] Worth it. [/brokenrecord]
  11. Too bulky on the Bose, and really not necessary anyway. Save yourself a few bucks. Edit: Also, with the OA headpad there's no place left to stick the battery pack for your lip light.
  12. Oregon Aero should be paying me for this... I have the helmet liner from OA as well...also well worth the money. Especially on a long night on NVGs. I can spend your money all day!
  13. I have used the Oregon Aero ear cups for several years on both DC and Bose headsets. I had the whole kit installed on my DC, and just the ear cups on my Bose. I think I got a better seal with the OEM cups on the Bose, but the Oregon Aero cups hold the earphones comfortably away from my ears. I highly recommend getting at least the ear cups...well worth the money.
  14. For the love of God, fix this link. Casey Ryback is on that ship!
  15. Anybody have updates? Audio only vs video?
  16. One more thing: The frag is like a huge puzzle where you have to adjust 50 missions worth of takeoffs and arrivals so that they all mesh up without busting MOG at any airfield. A change at one airfield could have a domino effect through the whole AOR. Sometimes you might have the whole plan done and one field is over MOG. When it's time to push the frag out to the wings, you may have to push it as is and hope that someone breaks. Not saying I'd take a gamble as big as your example, but planners are faced with some pretty tough decisions. If nothing changes, then you are correct.
  17. Honestly, everyone in the airlift business who transits Al Udeid should take it upon themselves to arrange a tour of AMD and the CAOC in general. There is no better way to educate yourself on what works, what doesn't, and why. I spent 4 months of my life in that prison, and while I hated every minute of it, I would have jumped at the chance to take some fellow crew dogs around the building. I'm not even going to try to defend the shit sandwich that gets handed to crews, because I know I handed down a few during my tour. I will say, however, that it is never by choice. Bottom line, if you have a little familiarity with what's going on behind the curtain, you'll be more useful (and helpful) to the guys pulling the strings, and when a request gets denied you'll have an idea why. Back to the Life Support topic...While I was on active duty there were a few good LS troops who really knew their shit, and the rest were just taking up space. Now that I'm in the Guard, my LS shop is probably the best shop on base - they're proactive and always have the mission in mind. Great group of people back there. On the MX side, in two years here I've never had a troop tell me, "My T.O. says it's within limits." While on AD, if I went 2 consecutive flights without hearing that, I'd begin to wonder what planet I was on. Recently I brought an airplane back with a gyro that I "thought was about to fail" and told the crew chief why. The next time that airplane flew there was a new gyro in it. No questions asked. There are a lot of reasons for the differences between the way AD and the ARC works, but I think a lot of it boils down to "pride in ownership." If you can figure out a way to instill that sense in AD troops, you just might solve a lot of problems. If everyone in the Air Force truly understood the mission and their role in making the whole machine work, you wouldn't have reflective belts, sock checks, or confrontations over PT gear.
  18. AT&T does the same thing. Lucky for you and me, if you download Google maps for Blackberry, it will access your GPS function without you having to pay a dime. Works great on my BB Curve. Edit: Google maps is free, BTW.
  19. That's the smartest thing anyone's said all day. Having the Commander in Chief administer an oath of office is a big deal no matter who holds the office.
