    Smoky Afternoon

  3. When Kalitta wants to cut down on their fleet, they don't mess around... Source
  4. Here they are on a Herk. This is the WY bird down at Edwards for the flight test:
  5. 1. First of all, the AF will accommodate you whenever possible. That said, everyone make sacrifices. You will certainly have to make some from time to time as well. That's just how this business works. As long as you're willing to "take one for the team" every once in a while, you shouldn't run into any problems. 3. The military is not much different than other slices of society. You'll find your crowd to run with, and distance yourself from others. When it comes to work, personal relationships are very important. You'll find some guys that are all about "getting girls," some that are not, and some that are in between. Some people are drinkers, some are not. Wherever they fall on the spectrum, you need to be able to work with all of them. They are your second family, and just like your blood relatives, you don't get to choose them. Drinking is not an issue. If you don't want to drink, you don't have to and no one will make you. Just don't let that be the excuse to avoid hanging out with your peers. That's entirely up to you. People will develop that opinion only if you give them a reason to.
  6. Well, it sounds like a few folks out there have never heard of a YMC-130 before. So since it shows up in the bio of our yet-to-be confirmed new CSAF, I figured a history lesson was in order. Rather than clog up the CSAF/SECAF thread, I thought this would be a more appropriate spot. Here are the videos on YouTube:
  7. Wow, I'm actually going to beat M2 to the punch! From the AFA: There are two videos of the crash on the ACC page linked above...WOW!
  8. As long as you're on active duty, you can keep your cars registered elsewhere whenever you move to a new state. When I registered in a new state, all I did was show them proof that sales tax had already been paid on my truck (my original registration from when I bought it in Little Rock) and they didn't charge me again. I've moved twice (TX and CA) and haven't paid any additional tax since the original purchase. Trailers should work the same way. If the Union of Soviet Socialist Californians doesn't tax you twice, I would bet AZ won't either.
  9. Nah, it's just the crack sprinkled on top of them that makes you think they cure cancer.
  10. Actually it's because at one time or another most of us have had our pay, travel voucher, etc. screwed up. When finance was either unwilling or unable to help, aircrew HAD to learn the rules in order to get things fixed. In other words, we know the travel rules better because the people who should know...don't.
  11. I'll grant you the controllers there are a little suspect. Of the top 10 most dangerous places to land, however, Manas certainly is not among them.
  12. What about Laughlin, Columbus, Vance, or Sheppard? Knowing what I know now, I'd fear for my life entering any one of those patterns.
  13. WHO THE F*CK IS THE GENIUS AT THE DEID WHO DECIDED TO PUT TRANSIENT AIRCREW TENTS NEXT TO THE MAIN MOTHERF*CKING ROAD ON BASE!?!?!?! CHOKE YOURSELF!!! Oh, and thanks fuel truck operator for f*cking up my airplane. That was sweet, too.
  14. Throttle back there, pal...he made it all about money, I was just pointing out that it could have been worse. I'm just a Tweet fan who likes to play devil's advocate once in a while. Edit: I don't think either aircraft is as bad as their respective detractors say. Looking back at my previous post I can see how I made it seem otherwise.
  15. '2' on both counts. If it had been Tweets you'd likely be looking at $330,000 AND 4 crew members "down the sh!tter." Losing $8.6 Mil is clearly the better deal.
  16. Nice. Now get to work photoshopping some winglets on a Herk...
  17. Google is a beautiful thing. Here are the eligibility requirements for rated and non-rated PHOENIX applicants. BL, IP desired, not required: Eligible nominees: a. Captains with 6 to 9 years TAFCS b. Rated or line support officers assigned within AMC; rated air mobility officers currently serving outside of AMC are also eligible c. MWS instructor rating desired for rated (highly recommended) d. Completed SOS in-residence prior to HAWK assignment (mandatory) e. Minimum 2 years TOS by HAWK assignment as of the reporting year f. Are strong volunteers
  18. The wheel and the bra are two different things...the bra is in CC, the wheel was in Camp Andy and closed along with the tent shitty in '04.
  19. I hate to break it to you Rotinaj, but some of those pics have been floating around for at least a year and a half. I saw that pic with the covered pool tables while I was working in the CAOC last January. The day the first building is occupied by regular folks is the day I'll believe any projected "initial operational capability."
  20. Coastie pilots go to IP school at the Rock as well.
  21. Not according to the CSAF (3rd paragraph down): Sure, Mike.
  22. Gotcha. I'm just trying to keep the foto grande in mind. Agree 100%. Bingo. Back to square one.
  23. The Scott AFB Airshow Airboss had this to say on freq while updating us on his plans to clear us inbound for a personnel drop last weekend. Just imagine some old timer from deep in the heart of Texas keying the mic: "OK, the [Military Working] dogs should be done in about 2 minutes and then....HAHAHAHAHA, OH MAN! THIS ATTACK DOG JUST TOOK THAT GUY OUT! HAHAHAHAHAHA" That guy was the highlight of the show, I couldn't wait for each time he keyed the mic.
