  1. I have to agree with zman. I think it would at least help with figuring out how to program the KLN 900 GPS (there is no simulator available like there is for the Garmin series and the KLN doesn't seem to be as straight-forward as Garmin) and set up various instrument approaches, so when you do get into the actual cockpit or UTD sim it'll be easier and less time-consuming. Not to mention the valuable time saved from not having to learn this for the first time could be used for studying other stuff during UPT.
  2. Because They Hate by Brigitte Gabriel. A real eye opening book about radical Islam and how if we continue on w/ our ignorance and apathy we may lose everything we value.
  3. Officers in Flight Suits by John Darrel Sherwood. A book about American fighter and bomber pilots in Korea.
  4. $500 sounds like a better deal to me than a lost driver's license, lost pilot slot, article 15, etc...
  5. Reading about this guy kind of reminds me of people on message boards that say they're something they're probably not to justify their argument. For example, anytime I see a post on some messageboard bashing Bush, the goober always starts off with, "I'm a Vietnam Vet" or "I'm a purple heart winner." It's like just because they stated this, now they're all-knowing and everything they say is factual. Anyway, sorry about the hijack I'm just a little pissed right now about posers like this.
  6. His posts here: The Falcon I like how after Bunk 22 states, "Well, lets ask. I'll post over on F16.net and baseops.net, there are plenty of F-16 pilots on those sites and see what they say. You must know some of the same people and we'll see what they say. How about that?" The guy doesn't answer his question and seems to change the subject and starts talking about firefighters.
  7. Just finished it too. Outstanding book! It's definitely an eye opener w/ regards to Clinton, Kerry and the mainstream media. It will definitely piss you off.
  8. Scoobs is right to a point: Mo Population Shrinking, although it won't be until 2030. I've lived in Utah for most of my life and it's definitely become more diversified since I first moved here. If you move to a smaller town and are non-Mormon you will definitely notice a difference in the way you are treated. However, if you're in a larger area such as SLC, Ogden, etc the only thing you'll really notice is that some of the cities are practically ghost towns on Sundays. The drinking laws are a little weird, but once you get used to them it's really not that bad. Overall, it's a great state to live in because of the lower crime rate and the abundance of outdoor activities.
  9. If you can find them at your base GNC, you'll probably be ok. However, just like everyone else said, you'd probably be better off saving your money and investing it in something else.
  10. Just finished "My Men Are My Heroes.” It’s the story behind then First Sergeant, now Sergeant Major Brad Kasal. It's the story behind this picture:
  11. WWII: Korea: Vietnam: I'm w/ CH on the F-4. The Voodoo is a close second for me:
  12. If you had PRK, you will for sure be there for an extra day. It's not as long as the previous day, but expect to be there for at least half a day. You would probably be ok flying out later that evening depending on how well you handle dilation.
  13. In the words of some actor in some British movie, "You treat your airplane like you treat your woman. You get inside of her five times a day and take her to heaven and back." Warbird, definitely.
  14. I had a bad problem with shin splints a few years back. I noticed that it went away as soon as I started doing fairly heavy leg weight workouts such as squats, calf raises, deadlifts, etc. Before that time I was thinking I was getting enough of a leg workout by running alone. It seems that the majority of dudes shy away from legs and this could be part of the problem. If you're not already lifting, I'd suggest encorporating some leg routines into your workout and see if that helps.
  15. I was confused on that as well because my job doesn't exactly have to do with flying. However, I used some bullets similar to OPR stuff on my 215 and I was fortunate enough to get picked up last board. So obviously you can use some. If you want, I can email you my 215 and hopefully it will help you make a better determination on what you can use. If anything, yours should be easier to write since your bullets could carry directly over to how well you can fly.
  16. I have to completely agree with Aviator. I used all of my glider hours on both guard applications and my AD 215. It also helped my powered flying IMO. It teaches you to fly coordinated and think ahead of the aircraft. Either way, I recommend going that route initially. Try to get your glider's license if possible since it will be cheaper and build a good foundation for powered flight.
  17. I think saluting other LTs is rather absurd, but almost all of the SNCOs I discuss this topic with get all eaten up about it. "If you don't have to salute a higher rank, WTF should I salute officers?" It's very interesting to see the different viewpoints. To us it's no big deal, but some of these guys get really pissed. Yeah I always heard "bars don't salute bars," but I'll still salute 'em anyway.
  18. I'm just about to finish "Yeager." It's definitely a great autobiography about the man who changed aviation and the USAF forever. Just in case you didn't know that. ;)
  19. I just finished reading "The Mighty Eighth" by Geral Astor. I can't believe that the average age of the bomber/fighter pilots was around 20 and despite their heavy losses they kept doing their jobs! These guys had some brass balls!
  20. By the sounds of it, I'm assuming you just let the Airmen stroll on by while thinking to yourself, "man I should've corrected them," thus further contributing to the problem. As far as UPT is concerned, I'm sure we have it much easier than those that came before. Although being treated like a child sucks, just know everyone else is too. It could be worse. You could be in acquisitions. Didn't you also post this? Sounds like you have some soul searching to do.
  21. I usually listen to XM and it's normally tuned in to the techno/trance station. Ohhhh yeah!!
  22. Daaamn! You're a big dude! I got uncomfortable flying it longer than an hour, and I'm short. But here's the operating manual for it. Hopefully it'll give you better idea of what to expect. DA-20 Flight Manual
  23. If you're struggling to find the time to get a good work out in, try www.crossfit.com The longest workout I've had through that program has been 45 mins (and it's because I'm out of shape). Most of their WODs (workout of the day) go no longer than 20 minutes. Most of the exercises are body weight anyway. Find 20 minutes and a pullup bar and you're set.
  24. For XL guys, current BF/Ops Limits as of Jan 07 can be found here.
  25. Brush up on your reporting in/out skills. I was required to report in during my last interview and I haven't reported in like that since ROTC. Another thing, be prepared to go into the whole moral/ethical dilemma discussion. "If I and/or someone did this, what would you do?"
