GEN Odierno's Exchange w/Congressman Hunter
brickhistory replied to Muscle2002's topic in General Discussion
Odierno's behavior was wrong. Regardless of what party the d-bag is doing the questioning, it is the military's role to answer factually and unemotionally. Se the one star calling Sen Boxer "Ma'am" for the correct TTP. Here is where I start to put my spin on it vice just the facts: I believe Odierno was p.o.'d, but because Big Green handled DCGS-A badly and have been called out repeatedly by Congress in general and Hunter in particular. Odierno doesn't like having to explain himself. I also believe he has political aspirations in his not too distant future with a big D after his name. This footage will be in campaign ad... edited to spell DCGS-A correctly -
GEN Odierno's Exchange w/Congressman Hunter

Yep. If you think the congressman didn't leave and sic his staff on finding a way to punish Odierno (deservedly), I think you are naïve. But I see Odierno with political ambitions a la Wesley Clark. Democrat with military experience and a favorite of this Administration. -
GEN Odierno's Exchange w/Congressman Hunter

Another example of the politization (sp?) of the military. We expect petty BS from Congress but not from the military. Not a good thing and a great way to get your budget slashed. -
Hoppes has been around forever. It's what I use. Both the solvent and the lube oil.

Agreed. Their sign off line was telling. Still worth the time to watch it.

CNBC ran a show tonight called "America's Rifle: The AR-15." They mostly played it straight, covering pro- and anti-. I am sure they will re-run it.

Hmmm, maybe I can pitch a show idea to History, Discovery, or Playboy channels... It's about hard-drinkin', hard-charging blue-collar good ol' boys who dredge the waters of the Gulf of Mexico for firearms. I'm thinking of calling it "The Deadliest Catch." Beats crabbing...

I agree that if it's serious, you should lawyer up. I don't agree that USAF won't 'unofficially' punish you. Suddenly you aren't the one picked for school, upgrade, instructor/evaluator, follow-on, etc despite having been on that track immediately prior to ATF (or other incident/agency) showing an interest. Getting outside the herd is scary to most leadership and most don't know how to deal with it. If you've got a good commander, hopefully, you won't. Hope is never a serious strategy. Cool story bro: Former ops officer accused of child molestation after daughter, given a car based upon maintaining good grades, gets it taken after not doing so. AFOSI investigates, it is a "he said, she said" situation with no forensic proof, no other indicators, nada. Even contradictory evidence of being TDY when accused of incidents back at home station. One star WG/CC recommends court-martial. Takes jury less than 1 hour to find "not guilty." WG/CC tells ops officer you were found "not guilty, you weren't found innocent." Funny how an Aggressor, weapons school grad, major-select ops officer with all squares filled finds himself with a follow-on assignment to a junior captain's billet. And got out and is making a gajillion bucks on the outside. That "needs of the Air Force" thing is a pretty powerful tool when used for evil that can't be proved. Once again, it comes down to leadership, both personal and heirarchical (sp?). If you've got a good boss, then I agree with your position. If you've got the far more typical one, then the choice gets tougher - if it's a witch, she'll float and if she's not, she'll drown. edited to add: Perhaps this should be a separate thread since it is only tangentially related to guns? An advice/opinion on how to handle BS outside the Air Force that affects you in the Air Force?

This. Absolutely tough call to make. Talk to ATF hoping it all goes quietly away or stick to your guns (no pun intended) and realize that Big Blue is 98% guarenteed to look at you unfavorably if ATF lets 'em know you aren't rolling over. Seen it in ugly divorces, seen it when AFOSI is scrambling to find someone, anyone to hang a charge on so they get the pressure off them, seeing it now when a 3-star makes a decision regarding a court-martial and Big Blue and the DoD are going belly-up like the weakest dog in the pack. As young captain/SSgt in the middle of the wife/little kid/establishing a career for the long-term treadmill, the choice can be different than as a grumpy old man who can tell the "man" to take a hike.

They are required to keep it for a long time - exact time I forget, but it's in the many years, 10-20. There is a defacto gun registration already existing, fortunately the ATFE had been largely ineffective in doing their basic job of inspecting licensed FFLs. Too busy walking guns along the border and in Wisconsin. Sure wish I'd "found" that full-auto they lost from an unlocked car. YGTBSM...

Actually, I've found it more practical to look down when dealing with the drunken, passed out Irish. Plus they scare the horses...

Christmas '09 underwear bomber tried to blow up a US airliner over US soil, had his rights read to him within an hour and he's a Nigerian. This SOB is an American and he's not entitled? Rule of law according to political whim. What could possibly go wrong...

Hat's off to Cabela's, at least in Omaha, for not gouging on ammo prices. When they have it - and you have to line up before the store opens in hopes of scoring their limit of 5 boxes of whatever came in - their prices are same as before the ammo drought. Have scored 1,000 rounds of .45 in the last month by getting up early on a Saturday. Have also been skunked a few times when either nothing came in or it's not what I shoot, i.e .5.56, 7.62x39, etc.

But, if a company actually stands tall and walks from said BS state, I am MUCH more likely to support them if given a choice of products. The point about a state that goes that way doesn't care is true, but I will reward such stand up behavior with my purchasing dollars.

Stupidity continues to cause self-inflicted economic pain: https://news.yahoo.com/gun-manufacturer-leave-connecticut-over-gun-control-legislation-213413895--finance.html Surprise, motherfcuker, some folks have principals and will act to defend them: Turd.

Picked this up yesterday from the library (for you young folks, that's the big building with paper books inside). OUT-fcukin'-STANDING! Great writing, great descriptions of small unit combat, new leader self-questioning while trying not to show it to the guys, FOBBIT queep, and the futility of erstwhile allies like Pakistan sheltering Taliban and Co. to R&R (using our aid money to Pakistan to buy medicine for wounds received before) returning to the fight against us. Stayed up last night reading this in one go. It is that good.

Outstanding. That is a publishable magazine story - just need to add some cool pics of, say, a C-130 to make it sexy. Happy to help point you in the right direction to get started. Get a story or two published and the F-16 book in you is ready to be written.

More economic consequences for Colorado's stupidity and liberalism: https://dailycaller.com/2013/04/01/hiviz-shooting-systems-leaving-colorado-credits-state-gun-laws/ Good on 'em. Another company that I already buy and happy to continue supporting 'em. C'mon, Colt, say adios to Connecticut!

That was my way of acknowledging the title under your avatar. My original, now largely regretted for even entering this thread, post was that one guy left because he didn't like the BS being thrown by a few according to what you described. I think that's on him, not the BS throwers. You, apparently as I read your posts, are pissed at the posters who write BS. Seeing buffoonery in public is also a learning experience for new or wannabe officers, not just aviators. That, btw is where I see baseops at. It's not just for and about rated guys. It has grown for the better as far as mentoring or sharing gouge. Those new or wannabes from many backgrounds can learn from any selfish acts they see or read as well as from any good advice.

My only interaction with Rich was a few e-mails trying to figure out how to do an ad here for a book. He couldn't have been more of a nice guy. I agree about the fundamental idea about the site helping others become aviators. It has also become a place where not just new aviators, even, gasp, but non-rated as well can learn from their rated brethren and in some cases, the opposite occurs as well to make the AF a better place. If the site, you and others who have picked up the ruck following Rich's passing, don't want the political/social discussions, don't allow them. I'm not defending anyone, save myself, but if you are going to allow one viewpoint, then why not the other? Or none at all if that's the case. If someone leaves voluntarily, then it's their choice and not the fault of those they disagree with. I'm not looking for a fight and not looking to get banned. But if it's strictly a place where only like minds are to gather, then why bother having forums where opinions, right or wrong, agree with 'em or disagree with 'em vehemently, are allowed to be expressed at all?

CH, this didn't seem right to me. The forums, which I assume is the area to which you refer, is only one part of the baseops site. I freely acknowledge and defer to your greater experience and knowledge of the behind the scenes workings of the site and any poster leaving or not and the operations of the site. That said, if the condemnation for some posters is that great, then why not ban them? I don't want that and argue that the opinions of nsplayer, vertigo, et al, are as valid as anyone elses. Certainly they are different than many of us and thus provide a different view and perspective that is just as valid. Without such, this becomes a backslapping community that stagnates. The departed poster choose to remove himself rather than continue to engage. So be it is my opinion. It appears he ceded the field to his adversaries and negates much of what he posted about doing the opposite. Our national society is undergoing some pretty significant changes. Some are cheering them on, some are dreading them. But the dudes who are in or want to be in have to deal with those issues as they affect our military and our Air Force specifically. Punching out metaphorically is one way to deal with it, but what does that do for those seeking advice from those that have been there, done that? Like it or not, gays in the military, dealing with fair treatment under the regs, etc, is something that commanders now and in the future have to deal with. Tuning in here, to me, seemed to offer some perspectives that could help a dude make a good call when it came time to do so. On that line, it also appears that homage regarding every post as the greatest thing ever written wasn't received and it appeared green to be somewhere else from now on. Combat employment of the A-10? Definitely worth STFU and listening to. How to handle various situations elsewhere in the military or in one's life, not so much, especially when the response was often derogatory and belittling which is what I observed when young'uns were engaged. Even the relevancy of the employment posts has to fade with time as the world moves and things, including TTPs, change. This appears an exercise in free will to no longer waste time engaging here. Fair enough. But replying to any post is also an exercise in free will. It's just as easy to say nothing than encourage buffoonery that is being called "sh1t thrown on the wall." But it is a personal choice, not the fault of others.

Added a Pacymahr Decelerator to my XDS and test fired it yesterday. Much better to shoot now. The snappy recoil combined with the uber-4x4-type grip really worked a number on my, apparently, girly-hand. The Decelerator, made for the model specifically, really helped cushion the recoil and added just a bit of needed girth (sts) to the grip. Standard carry is now the Pearce Grip magazine pinky-extension and this. Me likey the gun much better now.

Broadsides: The Age of Fighting Sail, 1775-1815 by Nathan Miller. Tough sumb1tches to sail and fight in those things. Not to mention the same careerism and incompetence issues then as today.
