I use my Springfield Champion GI model as my "racing" gun. Try different springs, parts, sights, etc on it. Had it bobtailed which looks cool, but when shooting I actually like the straight-edge. Great, reliable, well-made 1911 for a decent price (prior to the current lunacy). Now if only ammo were not like unicorns at present...

Best headline not used on this story: https://www.tampabay.com/news/publicsafety/crime/st-petersburg-police-shoot-man-they-say-was-suicidal/2108146 Glock, paper, scissors. not my joke, but one of the best in a long time...

And with a few under their breath mutters about "ungrateful, disloyal,'' Big Blue will continue on its merry way never to change. Kudos to the guy for walking the walk and I bet he has no issue with looking himself in the mirror, but Big Blue simply doesn't care. Lesson for good and evil to young'uns. Do you want to be good, Danny?

I got to hang with a E-2C squadron aboard the Kitty Hawk a long time ago. One of the coolest experiences of my military career. But I was damned glad that I knew it was for a finite length of time before going back to Kadena. -Interchangeable water/JP-8 when showering - using something like a bar soda dispenser. -Bunking with two other dudes in a space the size of a closet. Couldn't imagine repeated tours of that at 6-8 months per. -If wanting any sort of promotion to O-4 or above having to do not only the queepy additional duties but also learning all the ship driving stuff - OOD, etc. Without doing that, you self-eliminate for promotion and command consideration. I give kudos to the USN because, at the time anyway, they were very "the book only tells you what you can't do" mentality. If the book didn't say 'no,' you pressed. They treated their officers like grown-ups, but if you fcuked up, they hammered mercilessly. They did not treat their enlisted like grown-ups. Man, that really sucked to live like that and be treated like that. Some of us chose to turn right at the recuiters, some turned to the left. And that made all the difference...

https://news.yahoo.com/ark-police-photograph-license-plates-store-data-180420324.html Substitute "gun registration" for "license plate" and wonder why so many are against gun registration. The government is not your friend.

Taxes, the Deficit/Debt, and the Fiscal Cliff
brickhistory replied to HeloDude's topic in Squadron Bar
Obama got his tax hike when the Republicans caved a month or so ago. He gained $600B more in taxes without having to cut a dime. This cuts $85B. Pretty good deal for Obama. And since 1/2 of it comes from defense, he's fine with it. Bye ICBMs, bye new subs, bye 100K troops. He really doesn't care about you. Actually, doesn't really like you to tell the truth. I will be directly impacted when sequestration hits. And I say Bring It. Then when the government funding showdown happens next month, I say call his bluff again. We are broke. -
General Petraeus resigns amid affair scandal

Bingo! So despite the one's theory that no one with a clearance should ever write anything, how about A) know whether you are writing about something is classified, was classified, and where you obtained the source material and B) follow the rules as you swore to do when you took Uncle Sam's money and obtain clearance if required? I can assure you that both A and B are easy to accomplish. Broadwell banged a general as a civilian unless she did it while on orders too. She took classified stuff home as a Reserve Lt Col and got caught. She's not Amn or 2Lt Snuffy who is inexperienced. She had a career working with classified. She looks like she got complacent and figured the rules didn't apply. I'm sure she's crying all the way to the publisher for her next book and the movie rights for her Petreaus tome. -
Taxes, the Deficit/Debt, and the Fiscal Cliff

I don't fault you one bit for seeking better, BUT that "convenience to the government" clause in every contract makes an immediate and tempting target when it gets down to shutting money off. -
BTW, I read the NM gun bill. Except for the magazine restrictions which is 10-15 (what happened to the Holy Grail of 10 or less?), the entire thing bans weapons due to cosmetic reasons. Absolutely every item listed was an adjective about appearance, not function - pistol grip/flash suppressor/thumbhole stockbayonet lug/adjustable stock, etc, etc, etc. They're not even trying hard. This ought to be a slam dunk legal case if it passes. Hopefully, the Gov does veto it.

Been way too long since an assignment there, but grew up near there and have immediate family in Macon. Bonaire and Kathleen/Perry are good family places. Macon has some nice pockets, but the crime is bad/growing and lots of "just keep driving." But some nice stuff too with Georgia peaches galore. As a singleton, Milledgeville is 30-40 minutes away with Georgia College and University (it's a long story). Decent liberal arts school with college nightlife and trim. Lake Sinclair is there for the boater/fisherman in ya. Sure won't be much military around though.

In those states where there is no chance of stopping the liberal anti-gun juggernaut, I'm sorry, I vote with my feet and my money. The legislature and governor have both very clearly said they are going to f' you, no matter what I want, AND enough of the masses want them to do it, then I'm outta there. It's all fun and games until the productive tax base is gone. I am pleased that industry is not lying back and taking this for England, but going back at the states - ok fine, we'll move to where we are wanted. Or we won't sell to you what you won't let ordinary citizens have. F'in' A, bubba! Eventually, we will run out of states, I admit. But until then, those that want to control me for simply existing can kiss my ass. The nation will be Europe II anyway by then. I wonder if Texas and Alaska can hold us all? (BTW, Texas, alone among all the rest of the states, has its own power grid per state law. It is hooked into the national grid, but the power is generated within the state and the state grid can be unhooked from the national. Purty smart thinkin' for them Texicans...)

New York, California, Illinios, DC, and Maryland are very neat and clean choices for me. Colorado passing their law will add another state to that list for me. Not so difficult after all. Sometimes it is a right or wrong issue. Nuancing and compromising on some principles is actually giving them up.
-
So what do we do as the red states continue to attract - generalization here - those who will produce, encourage capitalism and increase the quality of life that then draws in those who leech as has happened in the very blue and, as in Colorado, recently blue states?
-
Absolutely it is worth it. There are some things worth sacrificing material comfort for. It's called taking a stand on principles.

Assault = scary. Any fule no that. Black with a pistol grip is much more dangerous than a home-like walnut .308. And I agree regarding CTD. I was really p.o.'d when they pulled their guns in the immediate wake of Newtown. But now they are on the side of the Second Amendment? Me thinks they can see which way the wind is very strongly blowing. Nothing wrong with that, but their first move was very telling and insulting to me, so bye-bye.

RPA/Cyber has their medal on the way
brickhistory replied to ATIS's topic in Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA/RPV/UAS/UAV)
Wow. Would've thought an MSM or DMSM would've sufficed although the criteria of "targeting an important target" does beg the question of what meat-servo'd a/c do and what they receive as recognition. By this standard, then missileers and submarine key-turners should get the Medal of Honor if it ever comes to game day. -

Man enough to admit this; saw "Identity Thief" because my daughter wanted to as part of her birthday event. Even a 14 yr old says it sucked.

How can I be a good, happy cog in a giant machine?
brickhistory replied to a topic in Aviation Medicine
Is there any room in your job for judgement calls? Or is is strictly 'by the book?' I am not asking meaning to be insulting. I am asking out of curiousity and to answer your question. If, in your AND the Flt Doc's best, educated opinion, is it necessary for the good of the Service, to DQ someone for whatever malady? Is there wiggle room, and if so, what determines which way the wiggle proceeds?
