  1. I was thinking less about guys that aren't going to be upgraded (which very rarely happens in in my experience) and I also doubt those people would get pushed by their WG/CC for such a program. More so it was about making a pilot that's 2+ years into their MWS development and investment by their unit the only one eligible versus younger copilots that aren't at far along in their upgrade or career.
  2. The AMC/A3 told a couple of our guys who were interested for the offer earlier this year that AMC guys would go bombers and bomber guys would go fighters but no heavies would go fighters. I'd be surprised if it changed that fast. Im also curious why AC is a requirement.

  6. Also reference AFI 34-135 Section 3.2: 3.2. VQ Reservation Process. At the time lodging confirms the reservation request, the staff must inform TDY personnel whether their reservation is confirmed for on base lodging or off base lodging. If on base and CL accommodations are not available the guest has the option to accept a (NA) number and find their own hotel or allow the front desk to assist them with securing accommodations. The member is authorized CL if adequate lodging is unavailable on base for the entire TDY period. The member is authorized a NA if on base and CL accommodations are unavailable for the length of stay. If space becomes available in on base lodging after CL reservation confirmation or NA number issuance, lodging should make an effort to maximize occupancy by attempting to notify the traveler of the change and encouraging the traveler to stay on base. (T-3) NOTE: The traveler is not required to stay in on base lodging after he/she has received a NA number or been issued a CL reservation confirmation. (T-3).NOTE:Managers will maximize the use of on base lodging for TDY-to-School students.Students attending formal training funded with TDY-to-School dollars will make their reservations as soon as their school tour is confirmed to maximize the use of on base lodging. If lodging is unavailable, students will continue to attempt to attain on base lodging until 5 business days prior to the start of the TDY. Schoolhouses making group reservations for classes will request their group reservation as soon as the class dates are confirmed in order to maximize the use of on base lodging. ----------------------------------- The catch here is if they are issuing a Non-A for 5 days or using the CL (Commercial Lodging) portion of this section and making you a hotel reservation at a location they have an MOU. Either way if this is lodging doing in on their own the JTR still trumps all unless the schoolhouse command is getting involved here.
  7. If I wasn't still 5 years out on my ADCS, my give a shit factor would probably be a lot lower. However when the CC says "do this" and the DO says "fly airplanes, myself (or any other first assignment Captain) isn't left with many options. Sure you can fall on your sword and will probably pick up the next non-vol to UPT or RPAs.
  8. I know it's a different for the fighter guys in the squadrons that stopped flying during sequestration, but on the heavy side there is no lack of flying. Completely disregarding the fact that our job requires us to fly to stay current and qualified, pilots aren't unhappy because there aren't jets to fly. Our base generates 2-3 locals per squadron per week, not counting off station JA/ATTs, TACC missions or even our sims. We actually don't have enough pilots to fill all of those lines. What pilots are tired of is having to fly locals or missions and then having to stay late into the evening afterwards or come into work during their post mission to make sure their shops don't burn down because the schedulers cleaned out the shop for the 3-4 time this month and X,Y & Z projects are due to tomorrow. I know we are all well aware this isn't a 9-5 job and personally I like that it isn't that way, the problem is when I'm staying late to do PowerPoint slides not flying jets.
  9. Some AETC bases have intel as well, just depends on the MWS. Knew a pilot/intel couple who worked a join spouse to Altus. Obivouly the UPT bases don't have any but I'm trying to think of a schoolhouse besides Altus that isn't colocated with operational units.
  10. What clown reinterpreted that rule to get a OPR bullet? Its not a break in training its an entirely different course. I just had a LT show up and then head straight to SERE, becuase nothing helps a guy brand new out of the Schoolhouse like adding another month of not flying on top of the time it takes to PCS, inprocessing & do the local mission ready.

  12. I think you hit the nail the head here, there's no correlation. Just some vague statement that people screwed up and so everyone has to wear diapers. Had he come out and said the above I think it would be viewed differently.
  13. Except an athlete isn't responsible for life and death decisions like those made by a pilot carrying an A code on an aircraft, especially one with no other qualified crewmember on board. What's the worst thing an athelete can do? Throw pass into double coverage, go for the 3 point instead of passing it, yeah totally the same thing as flying an aircraft.
  14. Good thing we don't have a pilot shortage, nothing like poisoning the well early by killing another good tradition like the classroom beer light on fridays, track select and assignment night fun.
  15. They're going to have to open it up before the commitment is up if they want people take the bonus to stay. 10 years of BS and then they dangle some money in front of you to put up with 5 more. People have long made up their minds by the time that point comes along in their career. Increasing flight pay might help make the 10 year ADSC a little more palatable by the end of it.
  16. Getting ATIS involves more than listening to a radio but crunching TOLD. Which is a little more involved in a 500,000lb aircraft since we don't have a BAK-12 to catch us if something goes wrong.
  17. All consideration for Flt/CC horse trades for assignments aside, your statement that they made the cut so are better assumes that the top 7-8 of every class tracks T-6s. While the statistical likelihood is weighted heavily in that assumption it is not the 100% case (reference several pages back about having to non-vol people to 38s). Just becuase Lt Snuffy went 38s doesn't mean he was the top of his overall class since there is a still some student choice in the matter.

Problem is the AF is stuck now in a catch 22, if they were to modernize a hotel, that costs money and to recoup that money they would have to raise their rates which would subsequently raise the on minimum reimbursement for on base lodging. This only makes is more of an incentive for members to seek even nicer accommodations off base.
  19. Are there enough beds for all 5 people? If not then I would ask him to show you exactly where your family is supposed to sleep. If there aren't beds for everyone and your leadership isn't going to bat for you then I have no words.

AFI 34-135 is the Lodging AFI unfortunately it doesn't say anything about suitability for accompanied dependents just Table 1.1 which says the minimum is 250 feet of living area with a private bath for officers. I don't know if a commander has the authority to order you to stay on base. This is the only reference I can find in the AFI: 1.3.1.1. Installation commanders may authorize lodging in facilities not meeting minimum standards for reasons of military necessity, such as contingency operations, natural disasters, emergencies, etc. It is inappropriate to involuntarily lodge duty transient personnel in facilities below minimum adequacy standards solely to reduce temporary duty (TDY) costs.
  21. Sure the higher ATP minimums should help the AF but I don't think we are suffering from qualified applicants either nor are we short of new copilots. We are short in the 12 year majors that should be our senior instructors who are now all flying for the majors. Doesn't matter how many guys are beating down the AF's door, they will be leaving at 11 years TIS which is still a problem for the AF.
  22. The shoe clerks have won, almost 2 pages talking about whether convenience stops are allowed in OCPs.
  23. On the other hand it's probably the only way you can highlight the outstanding payment owed by the AF to leadership above your SQ/CC depending on how your base works. If you pay for it out of pocket their GTC stoplight slides will still show green.
