  1. Not just oversight, but, in the -17 community, there is really only 1 acknowledged demo team, and they are the LTS fellas. They get lots of time for practice. Though I was a demo dude before I left, within the network I advocated that they really should be the only ones doing the profile. Dudes on the coast just don't get the time or resources to practice the profile to be truly proficient when needed. The fellas hated *my* thoughts on it, but I stand by it. Full demo profiles should be left to designated teams, flyovers not withstanding. Any other -17 dudes feel similarly?
  2. Only in GA aircraft! Have loved my Bose X's, am really impressed with the Lightspeed Zulu's, and can't wait to try the Bose A20's.
  3. God help me if that site ever goes down. . .
  4. From my (limited) experience with the grassroots guys, they are more rare than one might think. Cool airplane from how it looks. What is it like to get parts for it if something breaks? What engine is it running? I'd shy away if its something crazy like an E-155 or the like. Huggy, why the interest in this PARTICULAR make and model?
  5. Interesting. I'll call LA FSDO tomorrow and get their take. As far as I can recall, and I haven't recommended a commercial pilot candidate in 7 years, but I thought the only specific endorsements required were those from the flight instructor saying they received the appropriate ground instruction, flight instruction, blah blah blah within the last 60 days, etc. What did you do your MES in? BTW, badass , my last recommendation for a student was one going to do his Seaplane rating, THE most fun you can have in an airplane. But if it was configured on straight floats, I cannot see why you would be required to hold the tailwheel endorsement. But if it were a Widgeon or something equally cool, then I understand. You're right on with the clear as mud. Especially when we start getting differing opinions between FSDO's. That always made it easy to teach students. . .
  6. Are you sure? I didn't think an examiner had a requirement to check you have a complex, high alt, etc for a type rating. Those are just requirements before one can ACT as PIC, as you previously mentioned. I could have missed something, but haven't read an AC or published document relating the implication. Just says that the applicant must receive training 10 hrs of training in Complex, not hold the endorsement. If you can't get the endorsement in 10 hours, you're a moron, but stranger things have happened I suppose. Do you have a reference for the implications?
  7. As I understand it, there's no interface to get the GDL-69 other than the serial ports. Ipad doesn't have serial, nor a convenient USB option. As far as I know, all of the pins on the Ipad plug are used, eliminating that option. Bluetooth on a jailbroken Ipad really seems to be one of the best options now. . give it 6 months, it will change. Interestingly, I got to use it with Foreflight installed with a bluetooth gps on an owners keychain: https://shop.crackberry.com/freedom-keychain-gps-2000/9A57A2869.htm Keeps it on his Bonanza keychain. I was really impressed by the charts with position overlay as well as the approach plates. Updating was snappy and fresh, and the bluetooth GPS worked flawlessly.
  8. Bluetooth puck antenna. Already available through NavWorx and WxWorx. There were nearly 10 vendors at Osh Kosh this year developing products. Also heard one was developing a bluetooth antenna for XM weather.
  9. Glad we don't, but this is a huge advancement for traffic and Wx SA in the general aviation community. Where once small aircraft were limited to TCAS, TCAD, and as of late, XM weather, soon we will be able to have all of this capability on an Ipad! Pretty sweet if anyone flies on the other side.
  10. Dude, we owe you beers for life.
  11. Didn't see this posted anywhere in this thread, if it has been, my apologies. To get your PRF updated with BAC+ or Masters complete, here's the AFIT website with instructions for completion: https://www.afit.edu/coding/index.cfm Its got some decent information. The key is that education records update goes to "AFIT Coding".
  12. Bullsh*t. I'm one of the guys at Creech. There are priorities. I'll hint at our priorities next time I see the fellas.
  13. +1 Reschedule Creech, go to the memorial.
  14. Huggy, I whole heartedly agree. I'm of the VERY strong opinion that a timed out engine is the best of all worlds, doing exactly as you cited, getting a Boutique overhaul. Additionally, I spend much more time analyzing the DATE since last overhaul. I don't care if it only has 200 hrs on the engine if the OH was 20 years ago!
  15. What do you even say when a man is killed fulfilling his motto: That others may live. Him Him
  16. "2". . mostly. Depends on the kind of acro you want. IAC is hesitant to advertise too much w/in as there isn't a whole lot of stress data on spars after hard and outside maneuvering. Last meeting I was at there was hint at a One Design profile being put together, minimizing the downline maneuvers all together. I can attest to the RV8 being a GEM to fly in formation. An absolute joy. Lots of helpers out there if you decide to build. I'm still voting for my Model 12
  17. Its fine. Up until you realize that in your final class before the Capstone project, there is an UNDERGRAD Statistics prereq. That's correct, you can be accepted to that program without the requisite undergrad courses completed for one of their required masters courses. I don't recall this being an issue at Purdue, but who knows. Needless to say, I'm pissed and am taking the DANTES stats. test for the prereq. Because of this, I am no longer recommending the ERAU Aero Sciences program for a masters degree. Just my experience. The profs have been incredibly flexible with coursework and assignments, but that prereq policy really burned.
  18. 100 Pages WOOT!
  19. I had fun in my limited (<100 hrs) in an S1C. Did a pretty nice job through intermediate (if you're looking at competitions). I knew of one guy that flew advanced (poorly) and was always having issues with his up-lines. And i don't think you can find a cheaper airplane to own and operate. How big are you? I'm 6'2" and that SOB was tight. I will always pour one for Curtis Pitts though. The Model 12 is on my very short list.
  20. "2"
  21. FWIW, I just got my RIP yesterday for training at Holloman. It still lists 3 locations for training.
  22. Does it have monthly updates for when the Worldwide PerDiem reg is updated?
  23. would endure worse for that chili though.
  24. "2". I've done 2 of these. They are badass. I've been lucky and originated on one and flew a TCM tail back to TCM on another. 14 day keepers, never deal with the stage, and I know exactly where I'm going for the next 4 days. Also, when we TR, we don't carry all the crap. Chuck, I'll agree that we have come full circle, but we haven't done it to ourselves. There has been quite a lot of visibility on the "airlift availability" at AMC and TACC over the last 3 years, and the lack of application. So much for those "handshake" agreements among our leaders to keep crews home with the new EAS. Those leaders have punched, and a fresh batch of dudes are in to get that bullet. It was nice for about 16 months after the 2 EAS, then the writing was on the wall. Next step is to get the PACAF CC to make you guys play, then all will be bitter in Strat Airlift.
