I never watched the 80s movie. Never read the book before now either. Not sure why but I was always had an aversion to the story for some reason. I think a lot of the people who were into it when I was growing up were part of the d&d/fantasy crowd and that never interested me (not that I don’t admit to harboring an inner nerd). All I can say now is that the book is great so far and I wish I would’ve read it at about 15. I know the original movie was widely chided, but being somewhat familiar with Villeneuve’s work, I’m hoping the new movie will do justice to the novel.

I thought the 80s movie was an interesting take on the book.  Come to find out after the fact there was a ton of studio meddling, and the special effects of the day didn't really let them do what they wanted to.  I think it is faithful in spirit.  I'm looking forward to the new movie.  I still haven't seen all of the SciFi series on it...was busy getting the degree when it dropped.

I know it’s Bill Maher, but trust me you non-Dems (and probably Dems) will like this.

Damn, that was really good. It's why I only voted blue at Pres, Red almost everything else.  Though, I will say he doesn't have the read on that hockey player who bullied the kid.

Miller and another teen-ager were charged with assault and violating the Ohio Safe Schools Act in February 2016, when they were accused of making Meyer-Crothers eat candy that had been placed in a urinal. Other accounts in a police report indicate the boys urinated on the candy before giving it to Meyer-Crothers.

Miller and the other teen then punched and pushed Meyer-Crothers, according to the police report obtained by The Republic. The report also says Miller lied to school officials about his involvement.

At the time, Meyer-Crothers had the mental ability of a 10-year-old, according to his mom.

There are additional reports he kept verbally abusing the kid after the court case, but I can't be bothered to find them now.  Sorry.

“We have 234 pages of sworn affidavits under penalty of perjury alleging election irregularities from just ONE county in Michigan ALLEGATIONS:

    •
    • EYEWITNESS saw 50 ballots fed many times into scanner
    • EYEWITNESSES say Jan 1, 1900 was recorded in poll book as DOB for many not in book so they could count ballots
    • EYEWITNESS saw 35 ballots counted even though not connected to voter record
    • EYEWITNESS saw batch of ballots, 60% had SAME signature
    • EYEWITNESS saw ballot batch scanned 5 times
    • EYEWITNESS saw poll workers marking ballot with no mark for candidates
    • EYEWITNESSES saw ballots counted with no signature or postmark
      • VOTER said deceased son was recorded as voting twice
      • EYEWITNESS saw provisional ballots placed in tabulation box
      • PASSENGERS dropped off more ballots than people in car
      • WITNESS told ballots received after election were being pre-dated, counted
      • FAILED software that caused error in Antrim County used in Wayne County
      • GOP challengers not readmitted but Dems admitted
      • GOP challengers forced to stay away while Dems were not
      • GOP challengers physically pushed from counting tables by officials
      • GOP challengers subjected to racial harassment
      • DEM challengers gave out packet: “Tactics to Distract GOP Challengers”
      • Election officials covered windows so challengers couldn’t observe counting
      • Election officials cheered when GOP challenger ejected
      • GOP challenges to suspect ballots ignored
      • Challengers barred from observing ballot duplication process”

How about the other counties, and other states?  Like also how after 25% it changes from "eyewitness" to...not that.  I'm sure that won't be a problem in court.

Also, just because it's in CAPS doesn't make it more official.  FYI.

Here ya go. But something tells me it will be filed as "no one will watch and find convincing except Trumpkins."

I made it only 1/2 way, sorry.  They need an editor, and a script.

As I've said before, these are one side of the case only.  They are the Trump lawyers exhibits, and there's already been contested affidavit's (ex. postal worker) showing a lack of strength to the truthiness of all these claims.  Looks like there's 3 lawsuits in Michigan right now, 2 Trump campaign, 1 other supporting.  2 have been denied, this one, which I assume is the last one has not yet been seen by a judge as far as I can tell.  Perhaps there's a 4th, if so it's also been denied as far as I can find.  A lot of these cases have been denied because the affidavits come to the court like this -

"Judge Cynthia Stephens said in a written order Friday that while one plaintiff alleged he was excluded from watching the ballot counting, "the complaint does not specify when, where, or by whom plaintiff was excluded. Nor does the complaint provide any details about why the alleged exclusion occurred."

So no, it wasn't convincing that there's wide spread fraud in MI, a traditional democratic state since since the first Clinton election that Trump only won by .22% or 10.7K votes.  What's more likely...massive voter fraud, or a return to the blue voting for the past 30 years?  Biden won by current count of 146K.  Which is about what Kerry and Gore took over Dubya.

But there's going to be massive, statewide fraud to "create" 600K+ votes for Biden out of nowhere.  Sure.

As an aside, a friend worked with the National Park Service and did a couple 3 month gigs in a park in Kenya.  Their Kenyan election system requires ID and each voter gets purple dye applied to a fingernail which is permanent until the nail grows out.  There are no debates over legal or illegal voting there.

We can't get people to wear masks to stop a pandemic, but we're going to get them to dye their finger?

    Quote

The "Let's mail ballots to every one on our DMV/voter rolls/residents" technique has not improved the confidence in the outcome.  Perception is reality to some people so why not remove the perception of fraud by implementing a voting system that does exactly that.  The argument, "Well, voter fraud exists but in such small numbers it doesn't matter" gets shaky when win/loss margins are very narrow and, once again, there are enough documented accounts of fraudulent voting or ballot irregularities to challenge the election results or stir up hate and discontent.  Every LEGAL vote should count and every ILLEGAL vote should be discarded.

The evidence so far from the Trump lawyers does not support your assessment that the win/loss margin was narrow enough that these results will be overturned.  Getting 10K votes thrown out where Biden won by 150K is a fools errand.  There are yet not enough documented accounts to support those claims.  The Trump lawyer team has claimed there is, but hasn't produced the evidence.

We need a voting system that is reliable enough that it can't be used to dispute the outcome.  If doubt or uncertainty enters the equation, either side will use it to justify outrage and call the election illegitimate.  Right now, there is enough evidence of error to muddy the waters.  Dead people HAVE voted.  Improper signatures HAVE been accepted.  Election rules regarding deadlines WERE changed.  Ballots HAVE been found all over the place.  Fix these and other issues and nobody gets to argue they won because the other side cheated.

In the mean time, there is a legal process that is on the books.  If Trump wants to work that process, let him.  If he is wrong, he loses.  If he is right, Biden loses.  Simple other than the fact I don't think either side will accept it.  The former will rant and rave and be his usual obnoxious self while that latter will return to his basement while his minions burn down more cities.  American loses either way.

Here's a good overview of every Trump lawsuit, its current standing and some of the evidence - https://time.com/5908505/trump-lawsuits-biden-wins/
If you don't like the Time link, there's one on wiki as well, but time was more concise.

You're not going to get a perfect system for voting, because we're human.  There are always going to be issues.  Every reliable source has said that the election was very secure, and there were minor issues...just like every year.  Does fraud happen, yes.  But it's not on an order of magnitude that the Pres is claiming, and they're generally caught.

Dude. That looks good. Out of curiosity what other sci-fi do you like? Books or film.

I've been out of the media space for books and film for awhile (school/AF/family), generally getting only what's popular.  I liked the new sci fi blockbusters that have come out "recently" like Gravity and Interstellar.  But I don't have much beyond that.  Though it is time for me to read Dune again.  It's legit something I was looking forward to in retirement.

Only correction for @Prozac is it's on Prime.  Otherwise his take is spot on.  They really get "the little things" right, like what happens if you have an injury in zero G.

Actually there was a lot of discussion earlier this year about what he can/can't do with a pardon.  I believe it was on lawfare.  Their podcast dug into the past, and if Nixon could pardon himself.  Think this was it.

That's putting it mildly.  Reading what those parents have been through, as a Dad...whew.  I'd think they're done with violence in their lives, but if someone was on TV claiming what he did...it would be a struggle for me.  No "I'm a bad ass" just a lot of empathy.  I was following the case closely for awhile, but you know...pandemic, retirement, election.  Guess I should see where it's at.  I did watch about an hour of that deposition, had to stop.

I don't think he's gone on any of his shows and said he was wrong and/or to stop harassing the parents.  Of course, I don't watch/listen to anything he's on...so I may be wrong.  Thank you for the article.  Didn't know another parent killed himself, damn.

EDIT: Tried to find the latest, looks like he's been losing his motions and it might actually go to trial soon.  Also, those videos aren't showing up here anymore for me...strange.

If similar irregularities occurred in 2016 are you saying that we should have re-run that election too?  Or is 2020 the first time we've ever had vote irregularities?

How far are you willing to go to see Trump installed as President on January 20th?

Jeez I really wish some Air Force general would get courtmartialed so we can finally argue about something worthwhile.....

Looking at those charges, I believe the general said, "I’ve gotta use some tic tacs, just in case I start kissing her. You know I’m automatically attracted to beautiful—I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star they let you do it. You can do anything....Grab them by the pussy,...You can do anything”

No one cares update - daughter has covid, wife testing tomorrow, we'll see on me.  Guess there's nothing anyone could have done to stop the spread across our nation. At. All.

Yes. That’s the point. Republicans and democrats alike will accept the results of this election if Biden legitimately wins.

    That’s a republican view

To be clear, you're saying if the lawsuits are dismissed for lack of standing, cause, non-procedural issues, etc., then it's still a legitimate election for Biden? I would suggest that some people on this board, and a ton in my FB feed, who wear that label disagree with that assessment.  Where is your line for the judiciaries hand in deciding the election, especially since the Courts have been very reluctant so far to get very involved?

Fantastic read, thanks for posting that. No sarcasm. I love lawyer shit, and I learned more about PA elections than I ever wanted to.  For everyone else here's what that  lawsuit is asking the court to do -

    Quote

    i. An order, declaration, and/or injunction that prohibits the Defendant County Boards of Elections and Defendant Secretary Boockvar from certifying the results of the 2020 General Election in Pennsylvania on a Commonwealth-wide basis;

ii.As an alternative to the first request for relief, an order, declaration, and/or injunction that prohibits Defendants from certifying the results of the General Elections which include the tabulation of absentee and mail-in ballots for which Plaintiffs’ watchers were prevented from observing during the pre-canvass and canvass in the County Election Boards

    ;iii.In addition to the alternative requests for relief, an order, declaration, and/or injunction that prohibits Defendants from certifying the results of the General Elections which include the tabulation of absentee and mail-in ballots which Defendants improperly permitted to be cured;

iv.A temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction granting the above relief during the pendency of this action;v.Plaintiffs’ reasonable costs and expenses of this action, including attorneys’ fees; and cost; and

vi.All other further relief to which Plaintiffs might be entitled.

TL;DR - stop certifying the election; or certify it except for the votes we couldn't see and don't count the cured votes; and/or give us fees.

It will be interesting to read what the defendants response is.  This is only the claims for plaintiff, which of course frame it in the best way possible for them. Given the previous lawsuit outcomes in PA...I'm doubtful, but also not a lawyer so I don't know shit.

For @Seadogs you know what's not in there?  Thousands of affidavits, claims of thousands coming, or any affidavits actually.  There's use of the words: "poll workers claim;" "one," "two," and "numerous" claims.  But those aren't affidavits.  Besides the campaign there's only 2 other plaintiffs.

Even taking them all together in this lawsuit...not thousands of affidavits, or even claims.  Maybe 20...maybe.  Did you read it before you posted it, or just assumed it supported your claim?  It's a good read.

I don't think in the end they're going to get thousands of people claiming fraud, they'll get maybe a couple hundred.  Now, is that enough to get the justices to act, then get a recount, and that recount push the needle far enough right in enough counties to change the outcome?  WHO KNOWS?!  It sure is exciting though!  I've got zero problems with the legal process working it's way through.  I'm following Ben Shapiro and the Daily Wire on this one relatively closely.

Question for the Trump supporters though, lets say these lawsuits go nowhere...still massive voter fraud conspiracy/stolen election?  At any point do you accept the results?  What if massive fraud is proved in PA, but nowhere else and Biden still takes the EC?

I also apologize for the name calling, it was outta line.  I voted R every office but Pres, and Attorney General in my state.  The AG is too in bed with Big Tech for my liking.  I don't believe we're that opposed in principal.  I just never got the zealous support for any candidate...ever.

And it looks like their plan, as many do, on a vaccine that it looks like the US will be responsible for.

Trump's failure was allowing doctors to act as policy makers. But the opposition has staked their entire argument on trusting the science and listening to the doctors, so by their own words they would have made that mistake in even more spectacular fashion.

But the real point is, perhaps Australia will have done better, even if you control for the innumerable differences in demographics. Surely someone will emerge the winner. But we're not going to know that for at least a year, once the virus has had a chance to run its course.

There plan is not to rely on a vaccine, they're opening back up now after a lock down with very low case counts.
