Precisely. There is effectively no comparison between the two countries, yet somehow we think the leadership is the reason for the disparities?

That's like comparing NYC to Catalina island.

    Australia then.

  2. Any other Pres gone through this many SecDef's in so short a time?  New guy probably not going to get confirmed, so not sure if he should count.  Looks like any other Pres that went through so many did it over 8 years.

Wikipedia's got a nice color-code for acting/confirmed.  Pres. Trump's time looks starkly different to the rest, which is interesting.

Completely agree that they're complex issues that require study, and I know everyone here is actually concerned about solving these problems, it's more just a disagreement about what the core problem is, and what the solution should be.

I think that when there is such vehement disagreement on what the problem is and what the solutions are, doing something contentious is very risky. Any solution we implement will absolutely require broad (bipartisan) buy in. And actual, no shit, buy in. Not "pretty darn good," high-level hand-waiving buy in.

Agreed.  Now, how would you define the problem?  There's been a few other posts on here with a lot of good nuance.  What's your thoughts?  I apologize if I missed it before, shoot me the post and I'll read it again.

Indeed, you are right. 3 SCOTUS noms will ensure his “conservative” legacy for a generation.

I don't know.  We keep selecting "conservative judges" and they keep doing things that are unexpected.  Sure, they'll probably be more right leaning and less "legislative," but at the same time there's always that outlier case that can really change things.

I have a feeling getting on SCOTUS is a lot like joining the Presidents Club.  The weight of the office modifies, if not changes, some previously held beliefs.  Kinda like Command in that way as well.  Either way Senate will remain R (woo) so not too much damage will be done.

Uh oh, people don't agree with you on something so we're going the wrong way, and you don't like it?!

Cry somewhere else like a bitch.  We're having big boy discussions in here.

    If Biden wins, it's shenanigans.

What happened fallowing that was the state sponsored support of a racial narrative that was diminutive to suburban and rural whites and a refusal to uphold the law.

Was this pushing for more civil rights investigations into police abuses or something else?

Trump absolutely was a counter-reaction to that. The cancel culture that ferminated in the United States skewed polling statistics and the idea of a silent majority began to gain momentum in whispered circles.

I think also the seeds sown by the right leaning news sources about him as the "worst President ever" further pushed that narrative along.  Obama did some shady shit, as all presidents do, but the vitriol of my friends who only consumed Fox surprised me.  I think there does need to be something done about the conglomerate media sources, both print, news and social media.  What that solution is...I don't know.  But the ability for them to spread misinformation without repercussion, or stifle speech to skew one way is cancer to a free society.

However, now that this election is over...is there a silent majority?  Between the loud/proud Trump supporters and the Biden supporters there's another space?  Trump supporters were never quiet, and only got louder as the election came closer.  I don't think there's some silent majority.  As some other commentators have said, this a repudiation of Trump, not of conservative/right-wing policies.  I agree with that, voted almost entirely red except for the President...despite what my friends/family think.

I think the reason Democrats have a hard time seeing Obama as an exasperation of the divide was because in their own echo chambers everything was peachy. Trump being elected was a shock but they saw him as a charismatic cult figure that swayed millions of voters against the US. They don't realize he didnt sway anyone. They already felt marginalized. They were free to discuss it until Trump took power and really only a year or so after that.

Agreed.  I think if Trump had just taken COVID seriously we'd be having a completely different conversation.  It has hit minority communities pretty hard, and while he picked up more votes there (great!) it probably was  too much given the "racism in the white house" narrative on top of the plague.  Even if he kept tweeting like crazy, dog whistling to conspiracy and maybe racist groups/militias.  Anecdotal, but I had a lot of officer friends who're done with him for COVID response alone.  The "I'm not responsible" comment in particular hit my male friends hard.

This is something I haven't heard before.  Up until now most republicans I spoke with are diametrically opposed to your statement.  They love his policies and what he has done, but claim to not like the man himself.  What Trump policies do you think will be discarded by the GOP in his absence?

I think they're going to modify the immigration stance, and maybe finally push into place good, legal immigration changes.  Perhaps take a look at the border in total (Canadian, increased human trafficking in ports). End "kids in cages" legislatively.

Get rid of traitors names for US military bases.

They'll definitely get back to caring about the deficit, and not robbing social security.

I can probably count on both hands the number of nice things I've heard the media say about Trump over the last 5 years.  He's viscously attacked no matter what he does.  They don't even try to be objective.  What they've been casting him and his supporters as has been very harmful to the social fabric of the country.

Trump has actually trolled the media with these last minute "mix ups" on several occasions.  I always find it humorous and, in contrast with what the media does to him, it is harmless.

    Except Fox.

In addition to this, what kind of crazy shit are we going to see from Trump as he exits?  Is it going to be along the lines of the Clinton-Pardon-Party, or something else?

I’d guess the rest of the RNC is already doing discovery of their own, and will shortly stop supporting any lawsuits vocally and financially.

Lawsuits in multiple counties in Arizona, Nevada, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Georgia? Nobody’s going to pay for that, and it’ll make them look like a bunch of litigious shits for 2024.

Not hating, but I would love to read a source for that.

Anyone checked on Guardian recently?  I'm sure s/he's already running from the Commissars.

Why do the people who don’t like the Donald cut all his quotes short or out of context? Don’t forget he has condemned racism and bigotry lots and lots. And even in the Charlottesville speech he did. Yet people still say somehow it shows he’s racist. I don’t get it. He condemns racist people, kkk, etc and gets called racist. That’s insanity.

I never said anything about racism...wtf are you on about?

“They let you do it”. = he is indicating that it is consentual. Right? Or am I reading/ hearing it wrong?

Just to be clear when you talk about the before part and "out of context" you must have just forget this part -

"I’ve gotta use some tic tacs, just in case I start kissing her. You know I’m automatically attracted to beautiful—I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star they let you do it. You can do anything....Grab them by the pussy,...You can do anything”

No...that doesn't sound consensual to me.  Especially that "Just kiss. I don't even wait."

And no male on here who isn’t a trump fan has ever talked macho with another guy about consensual sex acts? I say BS.

I would agree. For most women or feminine men, the lack of being a gentlemen drives them completely away from him regardless of his accomplishments.

We're talking about the ladies in our lives and why they're turned off by Trump's rhetoric.  I specifically said my wife waited through to see if she agreed with his policies, some she did...most she didn't.  COVID response was probably the final straw for her personally, it was for me.  Over it all was a inability to stand they way he communicates anything.

Again you denigrate the people who disagree with you: "feminine men."  Thereby inferring only masculine dudes don't have a problem with his lack of "being a gentlemen."  There are a lot of conservatives who're calling him out right now for "being an A$$" and calling our democratic institutions a fraud.

And as for Texas turning blue, I talked to a lot of republicans, particularly women, who just couldn't bring themselves to vote for Trump no matter what. My wife is one of them. Put a sane conservative on the ballot and you'll see the Texas moderates hesitant to vote for someone who wants to take away their guns and raise taxes.

My wife was the same.  Been a R voter most of her life until 2016.  As much as she hated Hillary she couldn't vote for "grab 'em by the pussy."

She's tried very hard to see through, but some of policies (re: healthcare) she juts doesn't agree with, and his lack of tact pushes her over.

Yeah. Truth is hard to comprehend for some apparently. Great point drewpey.

People have brought up points and logic, and you claim it's not, or they're cherry-picking, or it's not a fact just emotion.  You've been unwilling to look at your own arguments with a critical eye through this whole thing (ex: health care discussion we had on here) or admit something might not be good.

Because someone disagrees with you where the country should go doesn't make them evil, stupid or any other slander.  I get the keyboard anonymity vitriol, but calm down.  Have a barley pop and realize the totality of the election.  Red picked up a lot in the legislatures of most states, gained in the House, and probably will keep the Senate.

You're stooping to Sim levels...don't be Sim.

You think the right is going to watch an election get stolen?

Do you have an evidence of this?  Does anyone?  Outside Trumps ramblings there's no evidence of it.  They've lost a few lawsuits about it now.  Unless you're going to contend each of those judges is super liberal enough to disregard their oaths/jobs.  I saw 1 video on FoxNews about it that was quickly address by the Nevada election officials.

It is strange the Fox called AZ so early.  Also, cutting of counting of the mailing ballots will probably hit military voters overseas dis-proportionally.  Maybe not, I'm sure I'll see it in the news at some point.

There's evidence of states doing things their way...seems very Republican to me.

  17. Saw a tweet on Shaprio's timeline from Jeb Bush that sheds some light into FL being ahead on these things.

Before I retired and was a DO of one of the National CPTs we spent a lot of time discussing election protection (CYBERCOM put this out there).  There are a lot of states that are damn near medieval with how they run their elections.

It's a benefit/cost of our system.  We had to dig down into the frigging US code/Constitution to figure out where we could offer assistance if we were asked for it.  You'd think the lawyers at CNMF would do that...nah.  That's why the Guard is so important for cyber, gov's can just use them (see Louisiana recently).

I don't know guys, this is getting pretty close. Don't call Trump out yet.

Getting?  It has been, and will be close.  I'm looking forward to seeing the margins that whomever wins each state wins by.  10K voters, 5K somewhere...maybe less.  I think that's cool, and our process is cool.  I hate that it's already getting called a fraud, largest turnout...ever?...and "fraud."  R's picking up more minority votes (good thing)...also fraud?  Ben Shapiro very right on his calls about this whole thing.
