I have listened to a few of Shapiro's podcasts (working from home provides some flexibility).  Sorry, he sticks to right wing talking points 99% of the time.  The only "criticism" I've heard was from this summer, indicating that Trump occasionally gets in his own way with his communications style, but then it was right back to slamming the left.

Shapiro was very hard on Trump's lies about the election from the start.  There's pretty good video where he's arguing with his crew about how they're wrong for supporting the former pres saying he won that night. He's done that all along, and pointed out how awful the lawsuits are.

Yes, 99% of the time he's going to have those talking points because those are his talking points.  But he's on the same line every time, and doesn't shift much when some darling conservative comes in and "does bad, to do good."  He annoys me often, but I respect him on that front.

Tucker Carlson on the other hand is none of those things. Has he released his copy of the Biden laptop yet that he got?  He fans the flames on rhetoric, with the same bad faith arguments and selective reading of the facts same as Hannity.  He's willing to align himself to whatever gets him views and popular, unlike Shapiro.  Him playing himself as "a man of the people" with his sliver spoon upbringing and Ivy League education is just the topper.

The fact that a court of law, and Fox News argued, that you can't take anything he says as a "statement of fact" means the show isn't worth anyone's time.

So the OSS/CC asked to house me from my toxic wing (tenant). I am already double billeted in my squadron, but work at the wing. The wing told the OSS/CC, yeah you can have him if you billet him. I kind of begged the OSS/CC to see if he can pull some strings or have them double billet me anywhere.

You guys know a lot on this site. Probably understand what can and cannot be done with billets better than me. Is there any way to have someone billet me until I start the Skills Bridge program in January before I retire? Just trying to escape a toxic wing!

There's all kinds of magic bullshit you can do with billets.  However, it really depends on what he's doing with the unit, and what the unit needs.  If he's low in your grade/exp he is not at an advantage doing it because you won't be off the books until you've got that blue ID card.  Which is an eternity in Sq time.

You're a year out...ftg (Fucks To Give) should be ≤ 0.  If you're coming in/leaving on time and not "out-processing" you're doing it wrong.  FYI - out-processing includes calling to get your old medical records from cold storage because they will not have them on base

If you're worried about a dec, that's a personal choice, but you've got the guns to back up getting a MSM...that's it.  It's damn near guaranteed.

I retired in Aug '20.  I work as a contractor on base. No one gives a shit about my last job, dec or rank. It's fantastic, but a def mindset change.  Start NOW with getting your cranium right for a very different world.  I might have been a little different since I enlisted at 18, but it's...totally different, and so much better than I could have imagined.

The blunt truth is it hurts non minorities. That’s the harm in affirmative action policies. It’s why white pilots, for the most part, should go ahead and stop applying to be astronauts.

Edit: The sinister end result is the debasing of the meritocracy.

Let me know when we find meritocracy.  Everything I've seen while in, and my brief time out, is who you know.

For SHPE, did you guys go through the VA or have a rep at flight medicine do it? This is more important to me than a medal or a ceremony.

Mine was flight medicine some special out-processing office, but COVID was starting so YMMV.  I was at Lackland though, so it might be diff for you.  It took like...5 min.  They didn't really do anything but sign some papers and ask if I had any issues.  I didn't notice any physical/mental differences when we went through it, however when I got my VA disability doctor review...

It was contracted out by the VA, to some really old doc.  He was super chill and reiterated, go until it's uncomfortable. Looking back, it was the first time in 21 years where I was honest with myself about how I felt physically...I left there in pain. I didn't have to suck it up for a PT test, to set the example for Amn or anything.  My body just went, yea...all this stuff is fucked that you've been ignoring it.  A testament to how strong our minds can be.

My apologies to you then. I assumed you were affirming the misconception that Parler is predominantly construed of social media misfits. And it is spelled with an “er”. And actually you still can. But we’ll see for how long...

I was construing it's got a problem with a large amount of toxic people, militias fomenting insurrection and neo-nazis.  But social media misfits are ok.

And we're not fucking, so I'll spell whatever I want however I want.

What? I was talking about the comparison to AETC and it not being a healthy group of people.  If you'd like to go on Parlor, well now you can't.  But there's a few sites grabbing responses to "leaders" (ex. Sidney Powell, Flynn) on there and you should look at those responses.

As to restricting 1st amendment rights and platforms that have been given a special legal carve out with the expectation they will not moderate content that is not obscene or encourages/direct violence but that they find offensive, I think they owe the users the benefit of the doubt and should have to document to the government and user why they blocked this or that post and or user was de-platformed.

They warned the president multiple times, and provided an explanation after the banning for Twitter.  Does this not meet your requirement?

Surprised she didn't put it on facebook at that rate.

  9. I know it has been said on here repeatedly, but I've already seen the differences in person.  Get a vets org to help you do the paperwork.  You will not be able to do it better than them.  I went with DAV in the San Antonio area and the dude helped find things that I: 1) forgot about, 2) didn't think needed to be listed (ex. allergies).

The basic problem is the government has too much power and control.  If we could dial it back to what it was intended to be, then it wouldn't matter who was in the White House or in Congress.  With so much direct involvement in the lives of every American, the stakes are too high to let the other side (whichever side that happens to be) be in control.

I'd rather the federal gov't have this power, that is buffeted by elections and the judicial branch, than unanswerable corporations whose only motivation is profit.

The problem Parler has is that they are the dumping ground for everyone that got kicked off normal social media for rules violations. This isn't a healthy pool of people from which to draw your user base. Think of it like AETC.

    This is perfect.

Have any of you submitted a VA disability claim while on AD? If so, how close were you to retirement and were you able to have a rating established while on AD while deferring compensation until after retirement?

I did it before I started terminal, which was about 90 days for me.  They didn't give me my actual rating until ~11 days after my last day, and I didn't get paid until a full period (30 days) had passed. So I got my rating in Aug, and didn't get first check until Oct. I believe there's some system handoff that ensures you don't get paid ahead of time because when I'd login to check status it would be waiting, and other status said basically "still AD."

It’s one thing to use something like Twitter to spout your agenda, bullshit ridden as it may be. It’s quite another to use it to incite riots, violence, and insurrection. From a business/market standpoint, I can absolutely understand why Twitter wants nothing to do with it. From a free speech standpoint, what the president did was literally analogous to yelling “fire” in a crowded theater. Sorry. He doesn’t get a pass on either count.

As an independent voter, I want to hear both sides of the BS from both parties. Have to determine which is less full of $#@t.

I would also add there is an intelligence reason to not taking those down so fast sometimes.  I cannot go into further detail.

But they do take down a lot of stuff, just because you don't see it doesn't mean its happening.  I've posted on here some about the "hunters" that go after bot/ISIS/disinformation accounts.  Watching their work is pretty amazing.

As soon as we get used we live in a oligarchy and stop giving a damn the scotch will taste better. Biden will screw over the progressives and dance to what ever Wall street wants.

And...they didn't when Trump was in office?

Good move in my opinion. He's been using the platform irresponsibly for years and now has strayed into blatant violations of the terms of service.

Flynn and Sid Powell as well. Imagine Linn is up soon as well.

Apple also I told Parler to start getting rid of the calls to violence or they're out the app store.

I wasn't a fan of peanut oil, though it works well enough that I'd use it if I ran out of my usual popping oil (especially over canola oil). I suppose avocado oil would work based on smoke point, but not sure how it'd affect the flavor, and is more expensive anyways.

But you are 100% correct on the seasonings (Lawry's seasoning salt is my go-to seasoning, but I also have Tony Chachere's Creole Seasoning available with my popcorn supplies for when I'm in the mood for something different)

I guess I'll fly my nerd flag: did a project during an experimental design class to determine the "best" jalapeno corn, as defined by popped volume, crispiness, and heat. Conducted a screening experiment looking at several variables: compared peanut oil vs the orville redenbacher popcorn oil, small amount of oil vs more oil, small amount of jalapenos (1-3) vs a more generous amount (6-9), and cheap popcorn (generic cheap kernels from the commissary) vs expensive (orville redenbacher) popcorn. Long story short, after a ridiculous number of batches of popcorn (70ish), the expensive kernels, more oil (3-4 tbsp oil to 1/2 cup kernels), and 6-9 jalapeno slices (literally, and cooked off for about a min before adding the corn, mt olive brand for reference) had the best success. The orville oil was a slightly more consistent with producing the results and flavor I wanted, though wasn't statistically different from peanut oil in producing the volume, crispiness, and heat I was looking for. Wish I could find the paper, but it's lost to blackboard online and I can't find my copy on my laptop.

Outside the experiment, too many jalapenos adds too much moisture and makes for soggy popcorn, and is brand dependent, so I'd recommend sticking with one brand of jalapenos for consistency. I like mt olive jalapenos since they are sliced thin and crisp up consistently without being too hot (which means more crispy jalapenos per batch of corn).

The Whole Foods bulk mixed popcorn kernels also works very well, and holds onto the jalapeno heat and flavor very well, maybe too well, and is great when I want a very spicy corn.

Coconut oil makes for very crispy popcorn, but you've got to add melted butter after the fact, or use flavacol, otherwise it's a bit bland.

If I want spicy corn but I'm out of jalapenos, about a tablespoon of sriracha sauce right after adding the corn works, though you lose out on the delicious crispy bites of jalapeno.

And the infidel corn earlier in the thread is great, though the extra cleanup due to bacon grease makes it a once in a blue moon treat because I'm lazy.

ETA: this is based on my experience in my home popcorn machine

First, thank you for your service.  What is your normal oil, the orville?

not a huge fan of all the "censorship" talk

seeing a lot of people make "lists" of people to "punish"...scary road to start going down for congressmen doing a constitutionally allowed objection...one that democrats have done in 2000, 2004, and 2016.

we need to be careful...it makes me think that passions are being manipulated on both sides.

So I get not wanting a black list for censorship or otherwise harm to an individual.

But I also want a list of who supported challenging votes so I can give money/support to whomever they primary against (if upholding the election) or in the end run against.

We absolutely have been and should continue to be “above all this”. That is exactly what American Exceptionalism has always been about. The President (the fucking President....it boggles the mind) has done severe, maybe irreparable damage to that concept. Mayors and legislatures don’t symbolize freedom and democracy around the world. The office of the POTUS does. Or at least it did before today. If “we do have that here” now, it’s squarely because Donald Trump and his supporters decided to.

Don't you remember all those other times the capital building has been invaded when the losing President/party called for a it?!

    Yeah, me neither.
