  1. I respect that they're crazy enough to do some jacked up things, and cause a lot of pain and misery for the world. I don't however believe that they have any real capabilities other than the ability to throw their people to the slaughter in order to stave off their ultimate defeat. That, will ultimately get our people killed. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  2. Really? Large, okay. Well trained and well equipped? I highly doubt that. Country full of crazies willing to attack with whatever crap they can get their hands on? Ok, I'll agree with you there. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  3. Third! Great story! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  4. You're right. He did say that in between every other sentence that was devoted to how awesome he is... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  5. I'll save you the trouble on that one. Don't care how bad A he is. His book is full of, "I'm awesome" talk that make you never care to read another book about a single SOF guy again, unless it's written about a team, from a more realistic perspective. Just my $.02. 6. I ride a DR-650 when I'm not on my RK. Honestly, my DR is way more fun, and I ride it with pretty knobby tires. I love the noise from them, and I still get ~50 mpg. I reworked my suspension on it, so I can comfortably do 80 mph on the freeway, but still rock the offload like a mx'er. If I had to choose one bike, DR-650 would be it. Not as fancy as a KTM, but 1000x more reliable. Things a tank! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  7. Exactly! Maybe things have changed, but why don't you look into the amount of missions they are doing. 8 or 9 to 1, should mean that Army is doing 8 or 9 times the missions. Truth is, it's not even close to that. For a tiny footprint, they are shouldering an awfully big portion of the load. Granted it is less now with Dustoff's new birds with FLIR, etc, but crappy weather, hot LZ meant USAF got sent vs USA. This isn't to start a pissing match, they're just the facts. Plus, flying around at no lower than 200' like the Army does just isn't as exciting.
  8. Big fat "2" on that one! ETA that IDMT's are for deployed members, not "advice" for the J's. there's a sizable difference in training that leaves the IDMT's behind a bit. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  9. Sorry man, but in 7 trips to OEF and one to OIF, I never once had a King there in any way, shape, or form. Your role has only very recently, in OEF terms, been put into play. You actually see the helos in this show, and they're barely mentioned, so the fact that anyone could get butt hurt over not showing the Kings is a little silly. Again, let me point out again, this show is about the J's, not Jolly/Pedro, or Kings. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  10. This is Hollywood pure and simple. Rarely is there a PJ hanging out in the TOC just to wait on a mission. If they're in there, they're BS'ing. CRO's maybe. There are some retired crew members that are bugged with how the show was filmed because its heavy "PJ's are the only ones on these missions" emphasis, but the whole point of the show is to highlight the J's not us. I'm cool with it because the show highlights Rescue. Besides, even if it is some Hollywood, the J's are still pretty bad A. ETA: oh yeah, they never tell us where we're going and how we're going in. Once again it is Hollywood, but 99% of the people won't know the difference. Heck, when I was stationed at Kadena we used to get people that asked us "Are you with that Army helo unit on the other side of the base?" And that was active duty AF, sometimes pilots both of the tanker and fast mover types. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  11. I have been lucky for the most part and had mostly CC's of this dying breed. I've also had CC's with tons of hours that sucked. All I'm saying is that I have yet to see the "one" indicator that says this guy is gonna be an amazing CC. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  12. Please continue. I'd love to know how or why it is I have no clue. I simply pointed out that I'm definitely not a nav, and I'm experienced. I normally don't agree with anything nsplayr says, but on this one instance I failed to see how his being a nav means anything. As I said, time in the jet can be an indicator of potential leadership, but it isn't the only thing. So please, give us some more of your obvious wisdom... Go troll elsewhere. Talk about impressed. I love it when tools talk tough on the Internet. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  13. Ok, I'll bite, I'm not a nav, I'm an experienced IP with 8 combat deployments in Rescue, and I agree. Lots of hours doesn't a make a dude a great leader. It has major potential to help, but it ain't like some kind of a golden ticket. The original post seems more to me like a guy who is pissed because he got screwed over, so now he paints with a broad brush. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  14. A simple hoist yeah, but CSAR? Don't think so. Back to the thread's regular topic. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  15. You just missed the sarcasm in it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  16. The President's main defense is by civilian govt employees/agents, not the military. Just because we step in occasionally to do things outside our main area we're not the first line of defense. While we are still civilians, we fall in a different group as the military. While extreme and exaggerated to make a point, I think his argument about SS, FBI, etc is valid. 20. Problem is people live in their own worlds, so to him 4 months at a time is the life he's living. And as was mentioned, I have personally left for three deployments to that wonderful vacation spot three times in one year. Dwell time is constantly being waived. Then add in your regularly scheduled TDY's, upgrades, etc and you're off to the races. Nobody is claiming it's more difficult than what some deal with. It's just our version of their sh@t sandwich. And while dramatized for this show, it ain't exactly 4 months of easy living. I've started shifts getting alerted in the middle of a gear swap, only to get out of the helo to piss in the farp, and have someone bring us powerbars throughout 11 hours straight of flying. Like any aircraft, that's no fun on the back. Talk to a random helo pilot, and ask him/her how the vibration generated in any helo is treating their back... Edit for grammar fun.
  21. Jeff was in my UPT class. Guy was a rock solid pilot from the word go. Glad to see his name officially cleared.
  22. Yep, I'm sure you can imagine some of the BS we have had to put up with. Had a good friend get falsely accused of blue on blue based on them knowing our ROE's as well as us.
  23. Tonight, 10pm EDT on National Geographic channel is a 6 part documentary on CSAR, specifically PJ's, but you get a look at the whole operation. I figured to plug it, I'd start a new topic. Mods can delete it whenever they want as long they're nice and wait a few days so people can get the info.

I'd have to go back to find it, but my dad sent me a link to a video where they used a pretty good laser sight on a shot gun. It was actually about 6-9 green lasers that showed about what the spread would be in a HD situation. He does a demo actually, and I plan on buying on for mine when I am stateside again. Pretty awesome actually. You saw the laser, and knew roughly the size of the hole you were about to make.
  25. How is there anything they can do, while never remotely close to danger, that can be outranked above a bronze star? I know not all bronze stars are for valor, etc, but come on. This is ridiculous. I agree, they need something, but this is overkill. Edit: forgot a question mark.
