Hello all, longtime lurker here. I am currently an active duty O-4 looking at applying to UPT for FY21. I'm medical, so I came into the AF as an O-3 and have 5.5 years of active service. I commissioned as part of a scholarship program in 2011, so I know I will need an ETP for TFCSD. I'm rather unhappy in my career but love the military and want to be more operational. My AFOQT scores were 91/99/87/98/65 but my TBAS was an abysmal 33 (0 flight hours). I plan on retaking the TBAS, of course, and working on getting some hours. My main concern is that my rank will affect any future career I would have as a pilot. I just pinned on Maj in Sept '19, but after bei…

What have the unsponsored boards been looking like the last year or so? Age: 29.5 Current AFRC since 2018 as and E-4 not eligible for E-5 yet. GPA: 2.66 with a BS in Aviation AFOQT: PILOT 98 NAV 88 ACAD AP: 49 VERBAL 61 QUANT 39 PCSM: 71 should be up to an 80 by the end of next month due to adding flight hours. Currently 5.5 flight hours. I have put in a few packets to units that I have been interested in with no invites to interview. Hoping that if i were to get picked up unsponsored I could go to some of the units I have visited that I like that could not offer me a position as a sponsore…

Hi everyone, So here’s what I got: AFOQT Scores: Pilot 99/ Nav 93/ AA 98/ Verbal 94/ Quant 97 PCSM: 66 with 39 flights hours (87 @ 201 hrs) Additionally, I am 25 year old mechanical engineering grad with a 3.2 GPA, working for a large aerospace company. I would really like to try to go for fighters on the reserve/guard side but I feel my pcsm is abysmal for that. I plan on re-taking my TBAS (as my first time taking it I was coming in on very little sleep after a long flight the night before.) honestly how do my chances look? And if not for guard, what about for an AD pilot slot? thanks for the input everyone!

Hi all, I think I have a pretty good idea of what my chances are just based off the numerous threads here, but I would gladly accept any feedback from you all regarding my own specifics seeing as many of you are landing interviews and getting hired - so you must be doing something right 😉 28 years old, non-prior Currently working as a senior software engineer (6 years industry experience) with experience leading projects and teams over the past year or so B.S. in Computer Science, 3.13 GPA P94 N88 AA87 V99 Q60 PPL 68 hours PCSM 85 (96 with 201+ hrs) LORs: one from college marching band director and two from military family friends w…

Hope that worked and I have some eyes on this post. I’m applying for the active duty July board. I’ve thought about guard/reserve and it isn’t ruled out, but with 7 years in I’m chasing my 20. I’m building what I think is a strong packet...but with one huge red flag. ill start with the bad and end with the good. I attended the navy flight school program. Graduated IFS with no problem....graduated api (for those who don’t know its aviation preflight indoctrination. Basically six classes of aviation like topics done at a rapid pace. Not exactly ground school but it’s similar) but with poor grades and got attrited regardless. The schools director, who attrited me…

Good Day to all! First off, I'd like to say this site is awesome. I've seen some great advice given through the topics I've read and continue to read. After reviewing the previous threads on the topic of age waivers I've decided to still post my question. I did find a few answers through the search function but I'd like to get some advice on my specific situation. I'm currently 35 years of age and planning on going back to school to finish my BA in General Studies. I know it's not the coolest degree to get a BA in but it is the quickest I've seen and time is of the essence here. I know some say a degree is a degree and I would have to agree with them on thi…

Hey everybody, long time lurker but finally joined in to start posting. Long story short, thought I missed the boat on pursuing a dream but the AF did me a solid and bumped up the age limit. Therefore, I’m taking advantage of a second chance to pursue the flying life. Age: 30 AD E-6 AFOSI Agent (hence the name lol) AFOQT: P91/N64/AA66/V79/Q52/ABM75 PCSM: 59 (No flight hours...yet./ 201+ is a 95) GPA: 3.8; BS in Emergency management and public safety from GCU Going for AD boards for Pilot and CSO. If it don’t work, I’ll be separating and trying for CSO or heavies in ANG or AFR. What you guys think? I can provide more data or background…

What's up everybody! Long time lurker, first time poster. I'm a former AD KC-135 Boom Operator that has been working to get a spot for UPT anywhere and on any airplane! I obviously feel like I'd be a good fit at a tanker squadron since I know the drill but I am open to serving once again anyway and anywhere I can. Here are some of my scores: Age: 32! I don't feel THAT old... KC-135 Boom Operator, MacDill AFB Pilot: 90 PCSM: 89 Bachelor's of Business Admin 3.1 MBA 4.0 Commercial Pilot License; ASEL; Instrument Airplane 295 Total Time LOR's Major - KC-135 Pilot, Reserves Captain - KC-135 Pilot, Current AD T6 IP Lt. - KC…

I am 35 and pursuing an airguard or reserve pilot slot, no previous military. I understand to not self eliminate and let them tell me no. But a majority of the job postings state in the requirements that I must be no older than 30 to 34 to apply (depending on the attachment), while some others state no older than 34 by start of upt. Furthermore, the units I call ask me the age question right away, then say no thanks. So do I only apply to the VERY few that don’t state age requirements, or still send my application package to every unit and hope I don’t piss off a wing because I can’t follow directions. Take bogidope for example. Only one out of 15 posts does no…

Hey all, It's been about a year of applying for me. I've been able to get a few interviews at various heavy units last year, but the rejections far outweigh the interview offers, and haven't been offered a slot at any of the units I interviewed with. I'm looking to get some feedback to see where I stand and how I can improve my odds for the upcoming year. To get the basic stats out of the way: Age: 30 AFOQT: Pilot: 98, Nav: 85, ACAD: 93, Verbal: 91, Quant: 98 PCSM: 99 Degree/Major: B.S. & M.S. in Civil Engineering. Undergrad GPA: 3.51, Grad GPA: 3.10. Hi all. Requesting feedback on my chances at a Reserves or Guard unit, and currently considering both fighters and heavies. AFOQT: Pilot 89 / Nav 98 / Acad Apt 95 / Verbal 94 / Quant 92 PCSM: 89 (with another 12 hours, this should bump up to 93, so I plan on getting those additional hours shortly) Flying: PPL, 88 hours, will start working towards instrument soon GPA: 3.57 (BA Economics), Also have master’s Prior Service: Previous active duty USAF officer (4 years, O3) in Contracting, deployed once (Baghdad) Age: 33 (turned 33 in Jan) LORs: 1 from previous squadron commander, 1 from coworker, 1 from good friend. Hi all, I’ve been waiting to post here with some fresh AFOQT/TBAS scores, but I still haven’t been able to sit for the test, so I figured I should start in the meantime. Once the recruiter heard my age (32), he balked at pilot talk, and went straight into pushing me toward CSO or Intel (neither of which I have interest in). Background: BS/MS Aero Eng. Entire post-college work history is govt. contracting, in Aero Eng. related fields. Oh, and my work site shares the airfield with the Guard unit I am most interested in (what I’m getting at, is they know the group I work for, and that I know what the locality entails). The past couple of years I’ve been workin…

Hello everyone ! I recently decided to dedicate my whole heart and soul towards becoming a military pilot. Apologies if I'm being ignorant at any point or just straight up being dumb, I did a lot of research but there is still more to learn. Little background on myself : I am starting my sophomore year in college soon with a major in Biochemistry. Started my first semester on the wrong foot with a terrible 2.7 gpa but manage to raise it to 3.2 the following semester; and I plan on getting it much higher. Didn't really have the option to join ROTC or USAFA since I just got my citizenship this summer, and I didn't have the grades. With that in mind, my chances o…

Hi everyone, AFOQT Scores: Pilot 99/ Nav 98/ AA 91/ Verbal 89/ Quant 82 PCSM: 95 with 160 flights hours (97 @ 201 hrs) PPL with IR FAA class 1 medical Engineering degree with 3.2 GPA and a background in software engineering I've been rushing guard fighter units for a few years without getting an interview. I am almost 27 and getting closer to waiver range. Do you guys think I should keep rushing ANG units? Or try the active duty route(OTS rated slot)? I don't really care what I fly or where as long as it's something pointy nosed. I understand even if you bust your ass nothing is certain, but I'm thinking I'll do well at UPT bec…

Hi all, I'm currently a senior at Texas A&M University planning on graduating December 2020. I'm casting a wide net for guard/reserve units and I'm not picky about airframes. I'll be visiting the 187th AS up in Wyoming this weekend and they seem like a top notch group of people with a fascinating mission to boot so they're currently my first pick. Here are some stats: -Major: University Studies Geography, GPA 3.0 -Minor in Meteorology, Minor in Parks and Natural Resource Management -AFOQT: Pilot 98, Nav 87, AA 84, Verbal 94, Quant 63. Will be taking the TBAS soon. -18 flight hours, post-solo but progress is slower than I'd like due to maintenance,…

Hello All, I was hoping to get some input on my plan for eventually making it into flying Air Force... I will admit to myself my prospects at this point are not great but that's not going to stop me from improving them. Old guy here at 35. Here's my story: 10 years ago I got my PPL (about 47 hours) and applied to a guard unit, was told no, but that I was heavily considered (fighters). Reapplied the next year and they said no again. Looked through other avenues for a couple years but recruiters (Navy and USMC) said I wasn't a strong enough applicant for Aviation. At the time I didn't really have much useful employment experience (was a freelance musician.) I ended up squaring my life away and pulling myself up by my bootstraps by getting into a great civilian career in healthcare IT. I decided I still wanted to serve my country, so I enlisted into the Army National Guard in the Infan…

Well I'm nearing graduation again and have been curious about flying for the USAF. This time i'm graduating PA school this August with a Master's in Science. Wanna do this new gig part-time but now that im 35 and a half, I'd like to toss my hat in the ring maybe one last time for a buzzer beater. The spark is still there, I feel and look young for my age. Not blind or deaf and no health problems. I can run like a cheetah (especially if I'm chased) and pretty sure I can make whatever fitness standards apply in my old age. Anyway, I sent my packet to a few local ANG units because I read they raised the age for pilot training. If it doesn't work out I may just buy a C150…

Hello All, Just wanted to get some opinions on if I should retake the AFOQT to be more competitive for guard fighter units. Pilot: 88 Nav: 67 Academic Aptitude: 83 Verbal: 69 Quant: 86 PCSM 92 with 201+ hours. From the feedback I’ve received from two rejection emails, it seems my pilot score is a bit on the lower side but my PCSM is pretty much on par with the average for interview selectees. I have no problem retaking the AFOQT but I am concerned about the risk of potentially scoring lower. I also have 5,000 hours of civilian flight time. The only reason I mention that is I wasn’t sure if that would be a factor when looking at the…
